Bellator 283 medical suspensions: Mukhamed Berkhamov out indefinitely after Lorenz Larkin no contest

Check out which fighters are facing indefinite suspensions as a result of Friday’s fights in Tacoma, Wash.

Belaltor 283 took place Friday at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash. and featured 12 bouts of MMA action.

Atop the card, [autotag]Jason Jackson[/autotag] defeated former welterweight champion [autotag]Douglas Lima[/autotag] by unanimous decision. Also, RIZIN tournament champion [autotag]Tofiq Musayev[/autotag] defeated [autotag]Sidney Outlaw[/autotag] by first-round knockout, and [autotag]Usman Nurmagomedov[/autotag] quickly tapped [autotag]Chris Gonzalez[/autotag] with a first-round guillotine choke.

As a result of injuries sustained in the bout, each fighter on the card received a medical suspension from the Washington State Department of Licensing. MMA Junkie acquired the list from the commissioning body Tuesday. The list included suspension durations but not medical specifics.

Two fighters received indefinite suspensions, including [autotag]Mukhamed Berkhamov[/autotag], who fought in a no contest against [autotag]Lorenz Larkin[/autotag]. The fight was waved off after Larkin unintentionally struck Berkhamov in the back of the head. While Berkhamov said he was dizzy and that’s ultimately why the bout was called, Larkin claimed after the fight his opponent was in the doctor’s room with a knee injury.

[autotag]Roman Faraldo[/autotag], who knocked out [autotag]Luis Iniguez[/autotag], also was handed an indefinite suspension. Faraldo told reporters post-fight he broke his hand on the knockout blow.

Scroll below to see the medical suspensions handed out to each fighter. It’s important to note fighters can return to competition sooner than the allotted suspension if they are cleared by a doctor.

Tofiq Musayev calls for title shot with Patricky Freire after 27-second KO at Bellator 283

Sidney Outlaw took a risk staying on Bellator 283 when his lightweight title fight was canceled. Tofiq Musayev made him pay for that choice.

Sidney Outlaw took a risk staying on the Bellator 283 card when his lightweight title fight against Patricky Freire was canceled.

It’s safe to say that risk did not pay off. “Pitbull” Freire pulled out of the 155-pound title fight with an injury. But rather than wait for him to heal, Outlaw (16-5 MMA, 3-2 BMMA) remained on Friday’s card in Tacoma, Wash., in a co-main event slot against [autotag]Tofiq Musayev[/autotag] (20-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA).

Musayev, a former RIZIN lightweight champion, took Outlaw out with a 27-second knockout. Almost certainly, the loss put Outlaw’s title aspirations a lot deeper into the future. But the odds of a title bout for Musayev, who was making his Bellator debut, increased exponentially – especially considering he beat Freire at RIZIN 20 to win a single-night tournament.

“I would love to fight with ‘Pitbull’ back home in my home country of Azerbaijan. That would be cool,” Musayev said after his win over Outlaw. “Since ‘Pitbull’ is the one who wanted to have a rematch with me, I want to fight him. Of course, after every training camp, you improve your technique – you get better. I just think it’s going to be a more exciting fight.”

Their fight on New Year’s Eve 2019 was a unanimous decision win for Musayev and at the time was his 15th straight victory. But could Musayev really jump the lightweight line that much to get a title shot after just one Bellator win?

Also waiting in the wings is Usman Nurmagomedov (15-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA), who submitted Chris Gonzalez (7-2 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) in the first round just before Musayev’s win over Outlaw. Musayev said he’s not interested in a fight with Nurmagomedov, but also doesn’t sound worried about making him take a backseat to him for a title shot.

“We have a good friendship with Usman. We respect him as a fighter, but he’s not in my plans to fight anytime soon,” Musayev said. “My plan is to fight with ‘Pitbull.’ I saw in one of his interviews that he wants the rematch, so let’s do it.”

Jason Jackson wants Bellator title fight after Douglas Lima win – or ‘a lot of money’

After another monumental win over a former champion, Jason Jackson has a pretty good idea of what he wants next.

After another monumental win over a former champion, [autotag]Jason Jackson[/autotag] has a pretty good idea of what he wants next.

Jackson (16-4 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) dominated former welterweight champ Douglas Lima (32-11 MMA, 14-7 BMMA) and swept the scorecards with a trio of 50-45 tallies in the Bellator 283 main event Friday in Tacoma, Wash.

It was the sixth straight win for “The Ass-Kicking Machine,” and those victories have come against top-shelf opponents like former UFC champ Benson Henderson, jiu-jitsu standout Neiman Gracie, legendary knockout artist Paul Daley, and now Lima.

In return, Jackson said he deserves a Bellator title shot.

“If they come to me with a fight and it’s not the title, it better have a lot of money,” Jackson said after his win. “Right now, I want one thing, and that’s the title. I want to be a champion. I want to be the champ. I’m going to be the champ.

“When you’re this close, you’ve just got to keep going. Once the timing’s right, there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it. This is God’s plan.”

Jackson’s six straight wins all have been by unanimous decision. After four straight Bellator co-main event slots, he moved up to headliner status to take on Lima, who is on the worst slide of his career with four straight losses – all by decision.

When Lima held the welterweight title, he moved up to middleweight to challenge then-champ Gegard Mousasi in an attempt to hold two belts at once. He lost that bout in late 2020, then lost the 170-pound belt to Yaroslav Amosov in June 2021. Amosov, a native of Ukraine, has not yet defended the title. He pulled out of a scheduled title defense against Michael Page due to the country’s war with Russia.

With Page still presumably next in line, Jackson may have to wait his turn once Amosov is scheduled to come back – or hope for something like an interim title fight with Page if Amosov’s return doesn’t have a date in the near future.

But for now, Jackson just knew he had to beat Lima no matter what, or any title thoughts would be put on the back burner for a while.

“I just did what I had to and did the strategy that I knew I had to,” he said. “I didn’t want to risk it because at the level that we’re fighting at, anything could happen. I wanted to take him to deep waters and drown him, so I came prepared for five rounds. I could go 10, 20 (rounds) – it doesn’t matter. Ain’t no way 25 minutes was going to stop me.”

Bellator 283 results: Jason Jackson sweeps scorecards vs. Douglas Lima in uneventful main event

The Bellator 283 main event consisted largely of Jason Jackson in Douglas Lima’s guard.

It wasn’t the most rock ’em, sock ’em fight in Bellator history, but a win is a win for [autotag]Jason Jackson[/autotag]’s record.

In the Bellator 283 main event Friday, Jackson (16-4 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) defeated former welterweight champion [autotag]Douglas Lima[/autotag] (32-11 MMA, 14-7 UFC) via unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) to solidify his place as a top contender in the division.

Bellator 283 took place Friday at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

Much of the first two rounds were spent in the same position. After Lima fired some leg kicks, he was taken down early by Jackson. One on the canvas, Jackson wasn’t successful in positional advancement but did just enough to keep Lima there. In Round 2, Jackson secured another takedown. Lima briefly showed signs of life when he connected with a stunning upkick on Jackson, who survived and remained on top.

In Round 3, Jackson took Lima down again. Lima eventually reversed position – only to have his reversal reversed. The crowd booed as the championship rounds began. Lima tried to go back to his leg kicks, but Jackson took him down – again. That is where they stayed.

In Round 5, seemingly everyone knew what was coming and it still happened. Jackson took Lima down immediately and drained out the clock.

With the victory, Jackson may have clinched a title shot. The welterweight division is currently log-jammed with undisputed titleholder Yaroslav Amosov returning from military service in Ukraine, and interim champion Logan Storley awaiting a unification bout.

Jackson, 31, has not lost in the promotion, since a debut defeat to Ed Ruth. Since then, Jackson defeated Kiichi Kunimoto, Jordan Mein, Benson Henderson, Neiman Gracie, Paul Daley, and now, Lima.

As for Lima, his struggles to get into the win column continue. Largely dominant through the first nine years of his Bellator tenure, which included three runs as welterweight champion, Lima has now lost four fights in a row. After an unsuccessful title challenge at middleweight against Gegard Mousasi, Lima lost his welterweight title to Yaroslav Amosov. He returned to lose a controversial split decision to Michael Page in October, and now has a defeat to Jackson, too.

Lima missed weight for the Bellator 283 headliner, as he tipped the scales at 172.8 – 1.8 pounds over the welterweight limit.

Bellator 283 results: Tofiq Musayev blitzes through Sidney Outlaw with 27-second knockout

Tofiq Musayev put the Bellator lightweight division on notice by quickly finishing Sidney Outlaw.

It didn’t take long for [autotag]Tofiq Musaev[/autotag] to make a statement in his Bellator debut.

In the co-main bout of Bellator 283, Musaev (20-4 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) met Sidney Outlaw, who entered the contest on a two-fight win streak with victories over Adam Piccolotti and Myles Jury.

Musaev, who stepped into the Bellator cage for the first time after his exit from Rizin FF, caused a halt to the win streak in rapid fashion.

After a few brief seconds of figuring out the movements of Outlaw (16-5 MMA, 3-2 BMMA), Musaev saw an opening and unleashed a hard two-punch combination. Outlaw was clearly wobbled and Musaev sensed a finish was possible. He quickly followed up with another combination ending with a right hand that sat Outlaw down, and referee Keith Peterson quickly called a stop to the contest.

The official stoppage time was 27 seconds, the fastest finish of Musayev’s professional career.

Musayev holds a win over current Bellator lightweight champion Patricky Freire from 2019, and hopes to run it back again, potentially for higher stakes in the near future.

The up-to-the-minute Bellator 283 results include:

  • Tofiq Musayev def. Sidney Outlaw via knockout (punches) – Round 1, 0:27

Bellator 283 results: Usman Nurmagomedov quickly taps Chris Gonzalez, moves to 15-0

Usman Nurmagomedov quickly tapped Chris Gonzalez, who many thought was a big step up for Khabib’s cousin.

Win by win, [autotag]Usman Nurmagomedov[/autotag] creeps closer and closer to his cousin Khabib’s undefeated record.

Friday at Bellator 283, Nurmagomedov (15-0 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) kept his unbeaten streak alive when he submitted Team Alpha Male’s [autotag]Chris Gonzalez[/autotag] (7-2 MMA, 6-2 BMMA) with a guillotine choke at 2:54 of Round 1.

Bellator 283 took place Friday at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

After some back-and-forth on the feet, Nurmagomedov grabbed hold of Gonzalez near the fence. Gonzalez tried to drop out of it, but there was no escape. Nurmagomedov readjusted his grip and cranked. Before long, the tap came – much to the delight of cousin Khabib Nurmagomedov and coach Javier Mendez.

With the win, Nurmagomedov now has 12 finish victories on his record. Three of his four Bellator wins have been inside the distance. Meanwhile, Gonzalez has lost two of his most recent three bouts.

Bellator 283 video: Dalton Rosta flattens Romero Cotton for TKO in dominant performance

“Hercules” is still undefeated a professional MMA fighter.

Two middleweight prospects entered Bellator 283 undefeated, but [autotag]Dalton Rosta[/autotag] was the only one who left the cage with an unblemished record.

Against a rival and fellow rising middleweight, Rosta (7-0 MMA, 7-0 BMMA) handed blue chip wrestling prospect [autotag]Romero Cotton[/autotag] (6-1 MMA, 6-1 BMMA) his first career loss at 0:38 of Round 4. The bout served as the event’s featured prelim.

Bellator 283 took place Friday at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

There was a little heat between Rosta and Cotton in the lead-up to the bout. Scheduled against one another on multiple occasions, Rosta took exception with Cotton’s withdrawals, with public accusations of ducking the fight. At pre-fight ceremonial faceoffs, things got a bit physical between the two fighters and they were separated by promotion staff.

When it came time to fight, however, Rosta proved to be one step ahead at all times. Outside of Cotton’s brief choke attempts, the fight was a striking clinic by Rosta, who exploded forward with punches. Rosta’s cage control, clinch, cardio, footwork, and overall technique shined.

Likely up 2-0 as he entered the third round, Rosta still pushed for the finish. With Romero tired, Rosta became more aggressive in the final frame and swarmed with a barrage of punches. On the retreat, Cotton was met by a glancing superman punch. A powerful left hand finished the job, as Cotton folded to the canvas.

The win was Rosta’s fourth career TKO, and his first against a promotion-ranked opponent. The 26-year-old former high school wrestling and football standout continues to improve under the tutelage of the American Top Team coaching staff out of Coconut Creek, Fla. as he makes his ascent toward top contendership.

Bellator 283 video: Roman Faraldo keeps first-round KO streak alive with walk-off finish of Luis Iniguez

Roman Faraldo possesses freaky power, which showed at Bellator 283, as he extended his KO streak to five in the promotion.

[autotag]Roman Faraldo[/autotag] has a knack for separating people from their consciousnesses.

At Bellator 283, Faraldo (8-0 MMA, 5-0 BMMA) extended his knockout streak to five when he decimated [autotag]Luis Iniguez[/autotag] (5-2 MMA, 0-1 BMMA) with a straight left. No follow-up punches were necessary, as referee Keith Peterson waved off the fight at 3:42 of Round 1.

Bellator 283 took place Friday at Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Wash.

The fight was all Faraldo from beginning to end. Faraldo’s striking was sharp, accurate, and effective. Prior to the finish, Iniguez looked tired as he threw lunging single-strikes. In the final few exchanges, Faraldo’s confidence visibly increased. After he stunned Iniguez in a combination, he put his hands down. Seconds later, a left hand sealed the deal.

Faraldo, 29, is one of the most highly-touted prospects in all of Bellator. With a 100 percent finishing rate under the promotion’s banner, the American Top Team product has compiled quite the highlight reel including two flying knee knockouts in Bellator.

The up-to-the-minute Bellator 283 results include:

  • Roman Faraldo def. Luis Iniguez via knockout (punch) – Round 1, 3:42
  • Jaylon Bates def. Mark Coates via split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
  • Archie Colgan def. Bryan Nuro via TKO (punches) – Round 3, 1:15
