Bryce Mitchell accepts Dooho Choi’s callout after UFC 310 win

Bryce Mitchell agrees that a fight with Dooho Choi would be a banger.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Bryce Mitchell[/autotag] agrees that a fight with [autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] would be a banger.

After Choi (16-4-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) finished Nate Landwehr in Saturday’s UFC 310 main card opener at T-Mobile Arena, he called out Mitchell for an opportunity to re-enter the featherweight rankings. One fight later, Mitchell (17-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) scored a TKO of his own when he took out Kron Gracie.

When asked about Choi’s callout, Mitchell reciprocated interest.

“I want to fight Dooho Choi because he called me out, and I think that’s what people want to see,” Mitchell told MMA Junkie and other reporters.

Mitchell admits that he initially wanted to avoid the ground with jiu-jitsu ace Gracie but was lured into it. Gracie opted to pull guard on numerous occasions until Mitchell eventually slammed him and knocked him out with brutal elbows in the third round.

“I thought I would do better with the punches, but I really didn’t have the option to not go to the ground with him,” Mitchell said. “People don’t do that in training. People that I train with, I’ve never had somebody wrap their legs around me like that and pull me down.”

Mitchell rebounded from his brutal knockout loss to Josh Emmett last December at UFC 296. “Thug Nasty” has split his past four appearances.

UFC 310 video: Dooho Choi TKOs Nate Landwehr on ground after throwing heat on feet

Unsurprisingly, UFC 310 combatants Dooho Choi and Nate Landwehr didn’t need all 15 minutes to determine a winner.

LAS VEGAS – Those familiar with [autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] and [autotag]Nate Landwehr[/autotag] didn’t expect a 15-minute fight Saturday at UFC 310 – and they did not get one.

In the UFC 310 main card opener, Choi (16-4-1 MMA, 5-3-1 UFC) defeated Landwehr (18-6 MMA, 5-4 UFC) by ground-and-pound. The stoppage at T-Mobile Arena came at 3:21 of Round 3.

Choi came out throwing heat, and connected with big strikes, including a punch that dropped Landwehr approximately 30 seconds in. As the fight progressed, the difference in striking success narrowed. Choi then resorted to his wrestling as he slickly tossed Landwehr to the canvas on multiple occasions.

Eventually, he moved to crucifix and slowly pounded away. With Landwehr unable to escape, referee Chris Tognoni waved off the fight.

With the win, Choi has won two fights in a row. Landwehr falls to 1-2 in his most recent three.

Dooho Choi vs. Nate Landwehr prediction, pick, start time for UFC 310

All-action featherweights Dooho Choi and Nate Landwehr kick off the UFC 310 main card. Does either fighter have a clear path to victory?

[autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] and [autotag]Nate Landwehr[/autotag] meet Saturday in the UFC 310 main card opener at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Check out this quick breakdown of the matchup from MMA Junkie analyst Dan Tom.

Last event: 5-1
UFC main cards, 2024: 104-91-3

Dooho Choi vs. Nate Landwehr UFC 310 preview

Choi (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) will look to make it back-to-back wins in 2024. In July, “The Korean Superboy” enjoyed his first victory since 2016 by stopping Bill Algeo in the second round. It was a frustrating stretch for Choi, who went 0-3-1 from 2016-23, which included a Hall of Fame inducted fight against Cub Swanson. … Landwehr (18-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) also aims to win two straight this year. His first appearance was in March, where he stopped Jamall Emmers in the opening round to return to the win column. A decision loss vs. Dan Ige last June snapped a three-fight winning streak.

Dooho Choi vs. Nate Landwehr UFC 310 expert pick, prediction

Doing Joe Silva proud, the current UFC matchmaker smartly decided to open the paid portion of the card with a surefire action fight between featherweights, Landwehr and Choi.

To Choi’s credit, the Korean has made some marked strides to fight smarter since his return from military service. That said, I’m not sure Landweher’s style will allow for Choi to safely – even if he wanted to.

Ever since his days on the M-1 scene in Russa, Landwehr has always had a fan-friendly style that makes for entertaining fights.

Even though Landwehr tends to take damage early, the native of Tennessee almost appears to feed off the violence, getting stronger as the fight goes on.

The American will be tempting fate early against someone who keeps powerful counters on a hair-trigger like Choi, but I think he can steadily take the steering wheel if he’s able to get out of the first round.

The pick is Landwehr by club-and-sub in Round 2.

Dooho Choi vs. Nate Landwehr UFC 310 odds

The oddsmakers and the public are slightly favoring the American fighter, listing Landwehr -140 and Choi +115 via FanDuel.

Dooho Choi vs. Nate Landwehr UFC 310 start time, how to watch

As the main card opener, Choi and Landwehr are expected to walk to the cage at approximately 10:10 p.m. ET. The fight will stream on ESPN+.

Video: UFC 310 final faceoffs with Rakhmonov’s shove of Machado Garry and loaded lineup

The depth of the UFC 310 lineup was on display during final staredowns at Friday’s ceremonial weigh-ins.

LAS VEGAS – UFC 310 ceremonial weigh-ins took place Friday, and the fighters came face-to-face one final time before Saturday’s event.

Now, in the words of Jon Anik, “One more sleep.”

UFC 310 takes place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+). The event is headlined by flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja (28-5 MMA, 12-3 UFC) vs. Kai Asakura (21-4 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Perhaps the most anticipated bout, however, is the co-main event: a five-round welterweight affair between [autotag]Ian Machado Garry[/autotag] (15-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) and [autotag]Shavkat Rakhmonov[/autotag] (18-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC). The two welterweights, along with the rest of the card, squared off Friday at T-Mobile Arena.

The main card is rounded out by a heavyweight clash between [autotag]Ciryl Gane[/autotag] (12-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) and [autotag]Alexander Volkov[/autotag] (38-10 MMA, 6-3 UFC), as well as two featherweight matchups, [autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) vs. [autotag]Nate Landwehr[/autotag] (18-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC), and [autotag]Kron Gracie[/autotag] (5-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) vs. [autotag]Bryce Mitchell[/autotag] (16-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC).

Dooho Choi expects classic slugfest with Nate Landwehr at UFC 310

It’s been nearly five years since Dooho Choi has gotten to feel the weight of an extra $50,000 check on his flight home.

LAS VEGAS – It’s been nearly five years since [autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] has gotten to feel the weight of an extra $50,000 check on his flight home from a fight.

There’s a fairly big asterisk next to that stat about UFC post-fight bonuses for the South Korean, though, since he had to return home to serve a mandatory two years in the military. He came back in 2023, and two fights into that return no doubt will be looking for a return to those extra checks, too.

At UFC 310 (pay-per-view, ESPN2, ESPN+) on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Choi (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) opens the main card in a featherweight tussle with Nate Landwehr (18-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) that falls into the old adage of “Fight of the Night written all over it.”

Before his military stint, Choi had five straight post-fight bonuses – and three of those came for Fight of the Night in losses. That is a telling stat, given in his draw with Kyle Nelson nearly two years ago and a decision win over Bill Algeo in July – his first win in more than eight years – he got no bonus.

He needs dance partners who share the load, he thinks.

“For my last two fights, I didn’t really have the opportunity to a banger fight to the fans,” Choi said at Wednesday’s UFC 310 media day through a translator. “I’m going to grab this opportunity against Nate Landwehr and I’m going to show a slugfest to the fans.”

“I totally love that hyper-aggressiveness (he has). I totally agree with his mindset and I expect us both to be in the octagon on fight night and be hyper-aggressive to each other.”

Check out Choi’s full interview above.

Dooho Choi vs. Nate Landwehr joins UFC 310 lineup Dec. 7 in Las Vegas

A featherweight banger between Doo Ho Choi and Nate Landwehr has been added to UFC 310.

A featherweight banger has been added to UFC 310.

[autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag]takes on [autotag]Nate Landwehr[/autotag] Dec. 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (ESPN+ pay-per-view, ESPN2, ESPN+). A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie following an initial report from MMA Mania.

Winner of four of his past five fights, Landwehr (18-5 MMA, 5-3 UFC) is coming off a first-round, Performance of the Night knockout of Jamall Emmers at UFC on ESPN 54 in March. He has earned a bonus in all four of his wins during that stretch.

Choi (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) returned after a three-year long layoff against Kyle Nelson in February 2023. After being deducted a point for an accidental headbutt, his fight with Nelson was ruled a majority draw. However, in his next fight, Choi was able to snap his four-fight winless streak with a TKO finish of Bill Algeo at UFC on ESPN 60 in July.

With the addition, the current UFC 310 lineup includes:

  • Alexandre Pantoja vs. Kai Asakura – for flyweight title
  • Ciryl Gane vs. Alexander Volkov
  • Movsar Evloev vs. Aljamain Sterling
  • Dominick Reyes vs. Anthony Smith
  • Virna Jandiroba vs. TBA
  • Clay Guida vs. Chase Hooper

  • Cody Durden vs. Joshua Van
  • Martin Buday vs. Rizvan Kuniev
  • Bryan Battle vs. Randy Brown
  • Lukasz Brzeski vs. Tallison Teixeira

Dooho Choi explains emotional display at UFC on ESPN 60 after first win since 2016

“The Korean Superboy” Dooho Choi admits self-doubt began to build before picking up his first UFC win in eight years.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] was overcome with emotion after picking up his first win in eight years.

At UFC on ESPN 60, Choi (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) stopped Bill Algeo in the second round with punches. It was his first win since stopping Thiago Tavares in June 2016.

Immediately after the referee stopped the fight after Algeo (18-9 MMA, 5-5 UFC) dropped to the canvas, emotions were fully displayed as “The Korean Superboy” began crying inside the octagon.

“I got emotional because this win was a long time coming,” Choi said through an interpreter at a post-fight news conference. “It’s been a while since I won and the last time it didn’t go very well. I heard all the haters, all the people that said I’m done and I can’t do it anymore. It started to affect me and I started to doubt myself a little bit. I was thinking is this really it? Am I really done? I kept faith in myself and I had to prove it to myself.”

After his win against Tavares, Choi would go on to lose to Cub Swanson, Jeremy Stephens and Charles Jourdain. Then, in his previous outing in Feb. 2023 against Kyle Nelson, the judges declared the fight a majority draw, adding another frustrating result to a tough run.

Choi admits that he began to doubt his abilities.

“I just know this is the one thing that I’m good at,” Choi said. “If I try my best and leave it all out there, then if it doesn’t go my way, then maybe I can accept that maybe I don’t have it. But I kept believing in myself, kept trying, and got it done.”

Now that he’s back in the winner’s column, Choi wants to get out of the UFC Apex, where he has competed in back-to-back outings. After all, just four fights ago, he was a headliner in front of over 10,000 people.

“I’m a crowd-pleasing fighter, so it’s a bummer my last two fights have been with a small crowd,” Choi said. “So, I want to fight in front of a big crowd, and I want to fight someone in the rankings.”

UFC on ESPN 60 video: Dooho Choi painfully cracks Bill Algeo for first win since 2016

“The Korean Super Boy” Dooho Choi hadn’t won in the UFC since 2016 – until Saturday vs. Bill Algeo.

For the first time in 2016, [autotag]Dooho Choi[/autotag] has won.

Saturday at UFC on ESPN 60, “The Korean Super Boy” Choi (15-4-1 MMA, 4-3-1 UFC) picked up his first victory in over seven years when he finished [autotag]Bill Algeo[/autotag] (18-9 MMA, 5-5 UFC) with strikes at 3:38 of Round 2. The fight kicked off the main card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

A big left hand cracked Algeo in the face. Though Algeo reset as if he was good to continue, the damage sank in and he covered up in pain. Not much more damage was dished as referee Herb Dean intervened.

Choi, 33, has faced a litany of career delays in recent years, having only four times since his 2016 victory over Thiago Tavares. Choi was 0-3 with one no contest in that stretch. Military obligations and injuries delayed his return.

Algeo, 35, falls into a two-fight skid, having lost to Kyle Nelson in March.
