Dontrez Styles signs NIL deal with TLS sports

UNC Basketball sophomore Dontrez Styles signs deal with TLC Sports for his image, name and likeness.

[autotag]Dontrez Styles[/autotag] has signed with TLS sports for his name, image, and likeness representation as he maneuvers through sponsorship opportunities.

After just signing a new partnership with Salvio’s pizza a few weeks ago, the four-star recruit made another business move, this time joining TLS sports.

The agency, located in Raleigh North Carolina, already has an impressive roster that includes Grammy award winner Fantasia Barrino and Shark Tank’s Daymond John. On the sports side, the Kinston native joins UNC football wide receiver Antoine Green and North Carolina A&T Aggie Duncan Powell.

TLS CEO Cicero Leak had high praise for the UNC basketball sophomore, expressing his gratitude for Stylez joining the team.

“We are excited to welcome Dontrez to the TLS Family.” Leak continued, “With the growth and success, he had last season along with the momentum going into this year we feel that he will be able to capitalize from some of the big NIL opportunities being offered right now.”

This is just another step in Styles’ young career.

Last season for UNC, Styles saw the court in limited action appearing in 30 games, averaging 2.0 points, and 1.4 rebounds in 5.8 minutes of action. Styles’ best game of the season came against Baylor in the NCAA tournament where he finished with nine points, three rebounds, and two steals in the 93-86 overtime win.

Dontrez Styles signs new NIL partnership

It has been announced that UNC Basketball sophomore Dontrez Styles has inked a new NIL deal and will even be getting a food item named after him for it.

UNC basketball players continue to take advantage of the NIL by snagging new deals ahead of the upcoming season. And the latest player to do so is sophomore [autotag]Dontrez Styles [/autotag].

Styles has inked an NIL partnership with Salvios Pizza, located in Cary, North Carolina. Styles isn’t the first Tar Heel to sign with the pizza chain as Brady Manek and Justin McKoy both had NIL deals with Salvios. A nice perk with this NIL deal is that Styles will not only have a pizza named after him, but the 6-foot-6 Kinston native will have meal prep supplied.

Much like last season with Manek, Styles and McKoy will have meet and greets at the pizza restaurant for the fans to enjoy their Tar Heels and some pizza. It’s a good opportunity for fans to meet the players and share some time with them in an event,

Last season, Styles saw limited playing time averaging just 2 points and 1.4 rebounds on a six minutes average. Styles’ best game of the season came against Baylor in the NCAA tournament, where the freshman finished with nine points, three rebounds, and two steals. He also drained the first bucket of overtime, a three-pointer that gave UNC the lead.

This upcoming season, Styles is expected to see more time on the court, giving UNC fans a true treat after the glimpses of talent the four-star recruit showed last year.

Tar Heels named top team after Nance transfer

Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program were named the top team in Sports Illustrated’s early top 25 rankings for the 2022-23 season.

The UNC basketball program added the final piece of their roster last week when forward Pete Nance announced he was transferring to Chapel Hill for his final year of eligibility.

UNC is returning four of their five starters from a year ago on a team that made it to the title game as well as returning players like [autotag]Puff Johnson[/autotag], [autotag]Dontrez Styles[/autotag], [autotag]D’Marco Dunn[/autotag], and [autotag]Justin McKoy[/autotag]. Plus, are adding Nance as well as a 2022 recruiting class that was Top 20 in the cycle.

With that, one publication believes that the Tar Heels will be the team to beat early on going into next season. Sports Illustrated updated their way too early rankings for the season and UNC jumped up seven spots from April’s rankings from No. 8 to No. 1. Here is what they had to say about UNC going into next season:

The late addition of Northwestern transfer Pete Nance pushes the Tar Heels into the No. 1 spot with rosters mostly set. The 6’10” forward is a perfect fit to replace Brady Manek at the power forward spot for Hubert Davis: While not the elite shooter Manek is, Nance is a capable outside threat and is more versatile defensively, a better passer and a more gifted post scorer than Manek was for the 2021–22 Heels. He also gives Davis a chance to rest star center Armando Bacot at times, a necessity after Bacot averaged over 35 minutes per game in the season’s final 13 games. The pairing of Bacot and Nance is the nation’s best frontcourt, and the backcourt duo of RJ Davis and Caleb Love includes a pair of potential All-Americans if each plays up to its potential. Add in a fifth-year senior defensive whiz in Leaky Black, and no team has a better starting group than these Heels.

For UNC fans, this is really nothing new. The Tar Heels have been put atop multiple rankings for next year early on and rightfully so.

Returning four of five starters and now adding an impact transfer like Nance is huge for Hubert Davis and his staff. Now let’s see if they can capitalize on it and make another deep run.

UNC basketball season in review: Dontrez Styles

We break down the 2021-22 season for UNC basketball forward Dontrez Styles as the Tar Heels made a Final Four run.

Going into the basketball offseason, Tar Heels Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tar Heels’ roster.

Over the offseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and how they performed for head coach Hubert Davis and the team. Next up is Dontrez Styles.

[autotag]Dontrez Styles[/autotag] committed to North Carolina back in April of 2020 picking Carolina blue over Clemson orange. The four-star small forward overcame a serious neck injury after a scary fall in his senior season at Kinston High School. Styles bounced back in a major way, getting some valuable minutes in his freshman season on a loaded UNC basketball team.

Year in Review

Styles entered his freshman season playing limited minutes with Hubert Davis playing a tight rotation. Styles played in 30 games, averaging two points and 1.4 rebounds in just 5.8 minutes per game.

The 6-foot-6 Kinston native played a significant role early in UNC’s NCAA Tournament run this past season,  logging 15 minutes against Marquette and 25 minutes against Baylor. His best game of the season came in the 93-86 win over the Bears where he had nine points, two steals, and three rebounds in those 25 minutes.

Styles also hit one of the biggest shots in that Baylor game, draining a three-pointer for the first bucket of overtime. That bucket helped set the tone for the Tar Heels in the bonus period.

As the year went on, Styles got better for the Tar Heels despite a limited role and that’s considered a success in terms of his development.

This upcoming season you can expect Styles’ number to be called upon often as the Tar Heels have some minutes opened up with the departure of Brady Manek. He ended last season logging important minutes during the March Madness run, and he will be one of Davis’ early subs for starter breaks or when a spark is needed to be ignited.

UNC lands in top-5 of 247Sports’ ‘Way-Too-Early’ rankings

The UNC basketball program earned a top-5 ranking in the 247Sports’ Way-Too-Early top-25 for the 2022-23 season.

Despite the college basketball season ending just about a month with Kansas defeating North Carolina in the National Championship, it’s never too early to start looking ahead to the 2022-23 season.

With the return of [autotag]Armando Bacot[/autotag], [autotag]Leaky Black[/autotag], [autotag]RJ Davis[/autotag] and [autotag]Caleb Love[/autotag], the Tar Heels return four of five starters — and all who were eligible to return. UNC also returns role players [autotag]Puff Johnson[/autotag], who scored 11 points in the National Title game, and [autotag]Dontrez Styles[/autotag], who had nine big points against Baylor in the Round of 32.

With that, the 247Sports ‘Way-Too-Early Top-25‘ was released on Monday and placed the Tar Heels in the top-5, ranked No. 4.

The Tar Heels finished one final 3-point attempt shy of Kansas in the national championship game. That would seem to bring the definition of unfinished business, and four starters are back in Chapel Hill aiming to complete what they started last year. Armando Bacot looks ready to claim the ACC Player of the Year honor he felt he deserved this past season. Caleb Love and R.J. Davis are a super dynamic backcourt capable of lighting up a scoreboard at any time. And Leaky Black comes back as a tremendous defender and glue guy. Whether North Carolina takes a step forward will depend on how the Tar Heels are able to replace Brady Manek at the other starting spot: Puff Johnson and Dontrez Styles both had positive moments in the tournament. Freshman Seth Trimble adds a potential impact player to the backcourt as well.

The biggest piece of the puzzle is who North Carolina will slide into the ‘Manek’ role at the hybrid forward position. With reserve guard Kerwin Walton entering the transfer portal over the weekend, the Tar Heels now have one available scholarship to add a new piece to their roster.

UNC finished last season 29-10 after starting the season ranked No. 19 in the AP Poll.
