Twitter reacts to Dolphins hiring Mike McDaniel

Social media went wild.

The Miami Dolphins finally ended their search for a head coach on Sunday night when they agreed to a deal with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. The team had also been interviewing Kellen Moore as a finalist, and he’ll return to the Dallas Cowboys as a coordinator along with Dan Quinn who pulled out of the hiring process early on.

As noted by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, because McDaniel is a bi-racial candidate, the 49ers will receive two compensatory third-round picks, one in each of the next two drafts.

McDaniel is the 11th full-time head coach in Dolphins’ history and has a real chance to take an organization that is on the edge of contention to the next level.

When the news broke that McDaniel was the hire, social media reacted exactly as expected.

Here’s an update on the Dolphins’ head coaching search

The team may have a new coach by the start of the week.

With other teams making hires for their open head coaching positions, the Miami Dolphins are one of three teams (New Orleans Saints and Houston Texans) without someone to fill that role.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the two finalists for the Dolphins job, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore will have their second interviews with the team on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

There have been some questions throughout the week if the allegations made by former head coach Brian Flores would turn either of the finalists off from wanting the job, but that hasn’t seemed to be the case to this point.

With both interviews expected to be completed in the coming days, the Dolphins could make a decision, come to an agreement, and announce their next head coach by the start of next week.

4 things to know about Dolphins head coach finalist Kellen Moore

Let’s get familiar with one of the two finalists to be the head coach in Miami.

The Miami Dolphins are coming to the end of their coaching search with second interviews expected to take place in the following week. Miami has two finalists for the position after the third, Brian Daboll, was hired to become the head coach of the New York Giants.

Miami’s finalists are San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

With a hiring likely taking place in the next week or so, now would be as good of a time as any to get to know these guys just a little bit more. Here are four things to know about Moore.

Dolphins officially request second interview with Bills OC Brian Daboll

The search continues.

The Miami Dolphins are in the middle of their search to find their next head coach after Brian Flores was fired on Black Monday.

On Thursday, it was reported that the Dolphins would start their second round of interviews next week, and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the team has officially requested a second meeting with Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

Daboll is currently a finalist for the New York Giants job as well, along with Miami’s former head coach, so there’s a chance that he gets hired before then, but Miami seems to be interested in interviewing him (and likely others) one more time.

It’s tough to say that what the Bills were able to do this year is replicable for the Dolphins because of the clear talent gap between Tua Tagovailoa and Josh Allen at this point. However, after a divisional round game that saw Buffalo’s offense put up 422 total yards and five touchdowns, the Dolphins should be strongly considering Daboll for the job.
