Duke the basketball team: Meh. Duke the dog (who might play basketball): Yes!
Woof!
This dog deserved a second run!
Saturday’s Bahamas Bowl didn’t offer much in terms of football excitement.
Buffalo held a 26-point lead on a scoreless Liberty early in the fourth quarter, making the most exciting sporting event of the day what happened on the track around Thomas Robinson Stadium.
During a game break, a dog ran against a bunch of children in a race to see who could claim the title of being fastest.
The dog got off to an early lead and looked like it was going to run away with the dash until somebody named Emerson was declared the winner.
The dog slowed up at the end, seemingly stopped by someone on its track to victory. What gives! We’re happy for Emerson, but this should have at least been a photo finish. The dog got robbed!
At least these kids and the very good dog gave fans at the Bahamas Bowl some intrigue on the afternoon.

What a good boy!
The ManningCast got a surprise visitor during its Baltimore Ravens-Tampa Bay Buccaneers broadcast.
As Eli Manning was running a drill for the viewers at home with instructions from Peyton Manning, the former’s golden retriever Hank decided to crash the broadcast for some playtime.
Hank is a very, very good boy, and he should be allowed to crash the ManningCast whenever he wants.
He did a wonderful job being a very good boy on the show, and we hope Eli Manning gave him lots of cookies and belly scratches after his surprise television appearance.
Honestly, let’s just bring out as many dogs as possible on all football broadcasts from here on out. This is the way.

Man’s best friend deserves a good home – and a good name.

It’s hard to top the cuteness level of naming stray pups Rickey Howler, Tiger Woofs and Doggie Pepper.
It just so happened that when a Good Samaritan rescued an emaciated dog and a pile of 10 puppies alone in the Missouri woods, it coincided with the September day of the fundraising golf tournament for the Stray Rescue of St. Louis. So, they decided why not name the dog and puppies after famous golfers.
In addition to coining plays on the names of Rickie Fowler, Tiger Woods and Dottie Pepper, they named the puppies Graeme McHowell, Betsy Jawls, Inbee Bark, Louise Puggs, Arnold Pawmer and Woofy Austin. The rescue also named the mom Mary, Queen of Scots, in recognition of her being the first recorded female golfer.

“The mom was so thin,” Cassady Caldwell, the CEO of the Stray Rescue of St. Louis, told People magazine. “She has literally given everything she has to keep her babies alive. Other than being covered head to toe in fleas, they were in good shape.”
Thankfully, this story has a happy ending as the Stray Rescue of St. Louis found a foster parent for Mary and all 10 of her puppies shortly after the group reached the facility.
Here’s wishing the best to Doggie Pepper, Inbee Bark and Woofy Austin.

The DP World Tour’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship plays up the fact that dogs are welcome on the property. During the week, the golf courses get visits from a variety of everyone’s four-legged friends. All dogs must remain on a leash but they can tag along any day of the week.
Some of the big names in the field this week included Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tyrrell Hatton and Billy Horschel.
But in the amateur portion of the event, there are few names bigger for English fans than Gareth Bale, a Welsh soccer star who has long had a passion for golf.
Dunhill Links: Leaderboard
When Bale pitched from a bank, slowly rolling the ball to about 10 feet, one of the dogs got loose and quickly took chase, eventually grabbing the ball in his mouth.

Bale and his partner Daniel Brown are currently on the edge of the top 10 in the team portion of the event, and Bale was able to put place the ball back at the spot on which it stopped.
