Former 5-Star Alabama CB is now predicted to land with Texas A&M

247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong has submitted his prediction for former Alabama CB Dezz Ricks to transfer to Texas A&M.

Well, that was quick! After Noles247’s Zach Bolstein reported that former Alabama cornerback Dezz Ricks had planned a visit to Texas A&M this week, 247Sports’ Recruiting Director Steve Wiltfong submitted his official prediction for the Aggies to pick up a commitment from the 17th-ranked player in the transfer portal.

Coming out of the 2023 recruiting class, Ricks was a five-star prospect, and according to 247Sports composite, he was the 25th-ranked player in the cycle, the 2nd-ranked cornerback and the 6th-ranked player in Florida out of the elite IMG Academy in Bradenton (FL).

Standing at 6’1″ and just over 185 pounds, Ricks was seldom used during his freshman season due to the depth in the secondary while sitting behind future NFL starter Terrion Arnold throughout the season.

So far this offseason, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko has been nothing short of masterful while utilizing the transfer portal, already adding four cornerbacks to what is currently posited as the 2nd-ranked transfer portal class. Due to his size, natural talent, and SEC experience, Dezz Ricks would immediately compete for a starting/rotational spot on the Aggies’ defense in 2024.

Report: Alabama cornerback transfer Dezz Ricks cancels visit to LSU

Dezz Ricks was supposed to visit LSU this week, but that trip is now off.

LSU looked like it was going to get a second shot at [autotag]Dezz Ricks[/autotag], a former five-star cornerback in the 2023 class who reclassified from 2024.

Ricks ultimately signed with Alabama, but after redshirting his first season in Tuscaloosa and the retirement of coach [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag], he opted to enter the transfer portal. LSU was one of the teams that reached out to Ricks, and it was expected to host him for a visit.

That visit is now off, according to a report from 247Sports’ Zach Blostein. Ricks is coming off a trip to Texas A&M and could still visit Oregon and Ole Miss.

It’s a tough break for the Tigers with one of the top transfers on their board, especially at a position of great need. LSU has already landed one transfer cornerback this offseason in Ohio State’s [autotag]Jyaire Brown[/autotag].

Former LSU recruiting target, Alabama cornerback Dezz Ricks enters the transfer portal

The Tigers heavily recruited former five-star recruit Dezz Ricks out of high school in 2023.

One benefit of the transfer portal is that it can give you another opportunity to recruit players you missed out on the first time around, and LSU may be able to do just that with [autotag]Dezz Ricks[/autotag].

A five-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, the Tigers pursued Ricks heavily before he ultimately signed with Alabama. But after redshirting his first season in Tuscaloosa and the retirement of [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag], Ricks entered the transfer portal on Saturday.

He’s still a largely unproven player. He appeared in just two games this fall while recording no stats. But he was a top-25 prospect nationally coming out of high school as well as the No. 2 cornerback, and that’s a resume LSU would like to add to a secondary that needs some help.

We’ll see if LSU pursues Ricks again with his recruitment being back open.

Alabama football countdown to kickoff: 29 days

We are now just 29 days away from the start of Alabama’s 2023 football season!

The Alabama Crimson Tide will take the field for the 2023 college football season in 29 days, as Middle Tennessee State visits Bryant Denny Stadium on Sept. 2.

Here at Roll Tide Wire, we will be counting down the days until Nick Saban and his team take the field.

With 29 days remaining, we take a look at one of the best defensive players of the Nick Saban era, [autotag]Minkah Fitzpatrick[/autotag].

Fitzpatrick roamed the Alabama secondary from 2015-2017 where he accumulated 171 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and 9 interceptions.

Fitzpatrick, a current member of the Pittsburgh Steelers, is widely regarded as one of the top defensive backs in the NFL.

Freshman defensive back Dezz Ricks currently wears No. 29 for the Crimson Tide.

Trio of newcomers named Student-Athletes of the Week

Haynes, Ricks, and Amos earn this week’s Student-Athletes of the Week!

We are currently right in the middle of the college football offseason, but with the SEC media days around the corner and recruiting news virtually around the clock, the content surrounding the Alabama Crimson Tide never ends.

On Thursday, Alabama released this week’s recipients of the Student-Athletes of the Week. A trio of newcomers received the honor this week as freshman running back Justice Haynes, freshman defensive back Dezz Ricks, and Louisiana transfer Trey Amos were recognized.

Haynes burst onto the scene this spring and is almost certain to be an instant impact player for the Tide this fall. Ricks and Amos both will be battling for a role in the defensive backfield with Amos having a slightly better shot at playing time due to his previous college experience.

Congratulations to these young men for their outstanding work in the classroom and on the gridiron.
