1 bold prediction for each Vikings draft pick

Not every draft pick will find immediate playing time, but if they do, @TheKevinFielder offers one hot take on their performance as a rookie.

Although the Minnesota Vikings did not have a lot of draft picks, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was active during the three-day event.

The Vikings wasted no time finding a partner-in-crime for Justin Jefferson, selecting USC wide receiver Jordan Addison in the first round.

Then, the Vikings began upgrading their secondary with the selections of Addison’s college teammate Mekhi Blackmon and LSU safety Jay Ward.

In total, the Vikings selected six rookies over the three days. While all of those rookies won’t get immediate playing time, there is at least a pathway for each to get onto the field.

Examining each rookie’s immediate impacts will be challenging, but it’s worth examining their ceilings as rookies through bold predictions and hot takes.

State of the RB room and 100th episode celebration: The Real Forno Show

The 100th episode of The Real Forno Show discusses the state of the running back room.

With a month until training camp, the Minnesota Vikings players are on a well-deserved break. This gives us an opportunity to continue looking at the state of the roster.

After looking at the quarterback room last week we examine the state of the Vikings running back room. After losing Dalvin Cook, there are a lot of question marks.

Alexander Mattison is primed to be the top back in this offense. He has the skill set to play on all three downs, but hasn’t been the most consistent. Can he step up in a big way?

After Mattison, it’s going to be a fun battle for the second running back spot. Kene Nwangwu is surprisingly the clubhouse leader coming out of mandatory minicamp with Vikings draft picks Ty Chandler and DeWayne McBride behind him fighting for the job.

How will things shape up? We discuss that and more on the 100th episode The Real Forno Show, airing live at 6 pm on Monday and Wednesday night on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

Vikings finalize 2023 draft class, sign DeWayne McBride

The 2023 NFL Draft class for the Vikings is officially under contract.

The Minnesota Vikings have completed their 2023 NFL draft class by signing seventh-round pick DeWayne McBride to a four-year rookie contract.

His contract terms have not been released yet, but the projections of his contract are as follows per Spotrac.

Total value: $3,950,402

Signing Bonus: $110,042

2023 cap hit: $777,601

McBride also practiced for the first time in front of the media as a member of the Vikings, signaling that his hamstring injury that he was nursing throughout the NFL draft process is in a good place.

McBride looks to be a potential contributor as a rookie, but that will be determined by whether or not the Vikings do end up moving on from Dalvin Cook.

With the rules surrounding rookie contracts, getting them all wrapped up before mandatory minicamp starts is a good thing, as there would be multiple holdouts each season prior to the collective bargaining agreement signed in 2011.

Breaking down Vikings’ 2023 draft class: Best picks, sleepers, overall assessment

The Minnesota Vikings made six picks in the 2023 NFL Draft. How does that project forward, including best pick, sleepers and more.

The Minnesota Vikings made six selections in the 2023 NFL draft. They started and finished on offense while splitting the picks equally between both sides of the football.

How did the class look overall and how do they project? Let’s take a look at best pick, sleepers and the overall assessment of the roster.

Former Vikings RB Robert Smith is happy with the DeWayne McBride pick

Former Minnesota Vikings star running back Robert Smith really like what they go in seventh-round pick DeWayne McBride.

The Minnesota Vikings selected running back DeWayne McBride with their final pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This selection made former Vikings running back and The 33rd Team’s Robert Smith happy. He had considered McBride as one of his sleeper running backs in this draft and took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

Smith’s endorsement of McBride should give fans confidence. McBride has the potential to compete despite potentially limited playing time initially. He isn’t a great pass-catching back, but his abilities as a runner make him a strong candidate for success.

Minnesota’s backfield already includes Alexander Mattison, Dalvin Cook, Ty Chandler, and Kene Nwangwu, making it a crowded backfield. However, there are speculations that the Vikings will let go of Cook this offseason, which would create an opportunity for McBride.

Time will tell if McBride can carve out a role on this team, but an endorsement from Smith is a good start for the rookie.
