Devonta Lee revealed his transfer destination on Saturday

Devonta Lee announced that he won’t be going far.

Devonta Lee was just one of five wide receivers that were looking to transfer from the LSU football program.

Lee entered the transfer portal on Jan. 14, 2022. Just two weeks later he announced his destination. The 2019 signee will be staying in Louisiana as he chose to head to Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs have a new head coach with former Texas Tech offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie taking the reigns of the program. The long-time assistant is getting his first chance to run his own program.

Cumbie is getting a big-time receiver in Devonta Lee. He might not have played much in Purple and Gold but he is talented. Coming out of Amite, Louisiana, Lee was a four-star prospect and the No. 8 athlete in the country. He will get a clean slate with his new team.

Devonta Lee shared his decision on Twitter.

It is possible that Lee could be receiving passes from former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Matthew Downing. Downing announced he would be joining the Bulldogs on Dec. 17, 2021. It appears that new head coach Sonny Cumbie is starting off his first year as a head coach with some weapons at his disposal.

Another LSU wide receiver to test the transfer portal

Another WR exits Baton Rouge.

On Friday LSU saw their fifth wide receiver enter the transfer portal with Devonta Lee. It began with Koy Moore, Deion Smith, Trey Palmer, Alex Adams, and now Lee. Thus far Palmer and Adams are the only two to pick new destinations with Palmer going to Nebraska and Adams to Akron.

Lee played in all 13 games with nine receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown. He was buried on the depth chart behind standout freshman Jack Bech and Malik Nabers, who were the top pass catchings down the stretch for this team riddled with injuries.

Lee leaving Baton Rouge after three seasons with minimal playing time. He was used more as a run blocker than as a weapon in the passing game for the Tigers. He leaves with 11 career receptions for 112 yards and the lone touchdown.

There are likely plenty of suitors out there looking for wide receivers that are the size of Lee. The 6’2″ receiver signed as a four-star prospect in the 2019 class. He was listed as the No. 8 athlete in the country and No. 10 overall prospect from the state of Louisiana.
