Former Auburn Tiger Devan Cambridge announced his plans to enter the transfer portal for the fourth time in his collegiate career on Friday. The senior, who has played for the Tigers in 2022, spent a season with Arizona State before winding up with his current, and soon to be former team, Texas Tech.
The 6-foot-6, 210 pound guard is also hoping to secure a medical hardship waiver after an injury ended his season in November. If he is granted the waiver, Cambridge, who was in the same recruiting cycle as current NBA star Anthony Edwards, will enter is seventh season of college basketball in 2025.
A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Cambridge began his career with Auburn in the COVID-shortened 2019-2020 season, where he averaged 4.2 points in just over 14 minutes per game as a freshman. Cambridge would go on to start 19 of the 27 contests he played as a sophomore, before taking a step back in minutes and production as a junior, leading to his decision to depart Auburn and team up with his older brother Desmond at Arizona State. Devan spent one season as a Sun Devil, mainly due to his brother entering the NBA Draft, before spending the last two years at Texas Tech.
In total, the 23-year-old has averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in 141 career NCAA games. With a homecoming back to Auburn extremely unlikely, Cambridge will hope for a fresh start with a new program in 2025. He’ll hope to appear in double-digit games for the first time since he was a Sun Devil in 2023 after dealing with injuries over the past two seasons.
