Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Bears (3-7) visit the Detroit Lions (0-9-1) in Week 12 for a Thanksgiving Day game at Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Bears vs. Lions odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Bears enter this one with issues at quarterback, as QB Andy Dalton is back in there with rookie QB Justin Fields out with a rib injury. It also appears the end is here, or at least near, for head coach Matt Nagy, as reports have surfaced that he could be coaching his final game Thursday.

The Lions are winless, but they have been playing hard and coming awfully close to wins. Detroit fell to the Cleveland Browns last week by a 13-10 score despite starting QB Tim Boyle for the injured QB Jared Goff. It appears Goff is back this week for his first Thanksgiving Day start.

Bears at Lions odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lions 22, Bears 18

Money line

The LIONS (+133) are a strong value on their home field against the Bears (-165) on Thanksgiving Day. Detroit has won two of the last three meetings on Thanksgiving against Chicago dating back to Nov. 2014.

Against the spread

The LIONS +3.5 (-130) are an impressive 3-1 ATS across the past four games overall, as they continue to play hard despite the fact the results haven’t been there in the win column just yet.

Detroit is also a perfect 3-0 ATS in the past three Thanksgiving Day games against Chicago since 2014. The Bears -3.5 (+105) are just 3-8 ATS in the past 11 inside the division, and 5-11-1 ATS in the past 17 appearances on a Thursday, too.

Over/Under

The UNDER 41.5 (-108) is a low number, but for this Thanksgiving battle, it’s still not low enough. The Under is 7-2 in the past nine for Chicago, and the Under is 7-1 in the past eight for Detroit.

Points will be at a premium, and the best part about both of these offenses is the run game. Run games run the clock, which Under bettors love.

Detroit Lions at Cleveland Browns odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Lions at Cleveland Browns odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Lions (0-8-1) visit the Cleveland Browns (5-5) Sunday for a Week 11 game at FirstEnergy Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Lions vs. Browns odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Lions scratched out a 16-16 tie in Pittsburgh last week. The 16 points allowed was a season-best for the Detroit defense. Detroit is a respectable 5-4 ATS overall this season.

The Browns were paddled in New England by a 45-7 count last weekend, and Cleveland is now 2-4 SU/ATS across its last six games. The Over cashed for the second straight week and is 4-2 over the previous six outings.

Lions at Browns odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Browns 29, Lions 13

Money line

Browns (-550) will cost you five and a half times your potential return, but Cleveland is just too risky to play at those odds even at home against a winless Lions team.

AVOID.

Against the spread

The BROWNS -12.5 (-112) haven’t really played well enough to be favored by double digits, but the Lions have issues. QB Tim Boyle is expected to make his first NFL start in place of the injured QB Jared Goff, and that isn’t likely to end very well at all for the visitors.

Over/Under

The UNDER 42.5 (-108) is the lean in this one. The Cleveland offense gets RB Nick Chubb back from the reserve/COVID list, and it’ll likely lean on the back for most of the backfield work with RB D’Ernest Johnson also figuring in. Cleveland loves to run, run and then run some more, which also runs the clock. The Lions have a first-time NFL starter under center. All signs point to an Under result here.

Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

On Sunday afternoon, the Detroit Lions (0-8) will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (5-3) in a cross-conference clash at Heinz Field. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. ET from Pittsburgh. Below, we look at the Lions vs. Steelers odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Since narrowly beating the Vikings on Oct. 10, the Lions have struggled to stay competitive in their last three games.

They were crushed by the Bengals, Rams, and Eagles, but they are coming off a much-needed bye. Sitting at 0-8, the Lions are desperate for a win after struggling on both sides of the ball in the first eight weeks.

The Steelers barely beat the Bears in Week 9, winning 29-27 at home on Monday night.

They’ve now won four games in a row and sit at 5-3 after starting the year 1-3. They’ve been carried by their defense, which ranks eighth in points allowed and 14th in yards.

Lions at Steelers odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lions 21, Steelers 17

Money line

This is quietly a good opportunity for the Lions to earn their first win of the year. They’re fresh off a bye and the Steelers are on a short week after playing on Monday night.

Not to mention, the Steelers won’t have Claypool and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster is already out for the year. With Big Ben being ruled out Saturday as well, this is a perfect spot for Detroit.

I like a small wager on the LIONS (+230) to pull off the upset on the road against a Steelers team that hasn’t played as well as its record suggests.

Against the spread

The Lions are 4-4 ATS and should probably already have two wins if not for last-second field goals made by the Vikings and Ravens. The Steelers are just 3-5 against the spread, covering just twice during their four-game winning streak.

I think the Lions will come out playing well after their bye and at the very least cover the 6.5-point spread against the Steelers. In the three games where the Steelers were favored by at least 5.5 points, they’re 0-3 ATS.

Bet the LIONS +6.5 (-108).

Over/Under

The Steelers’ offense is highly dependent on RB Najee Harris.

With Roethlisberger being ruled out, he will be featured even more. The Steelers don’t push the ball down the field or create very many big plays, nor do the Lions.

Considering the total has gone over a combined five times in 16 games between these two teams, I like the UNDER 40.5 (-103).

Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions Week 8 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Philadelphia Eagles (2-5) hope to snap their two-game losing skid as they face the winless Detroit Lions (0-7). Kickoff from Ford Field Below, we look at the Eagles vs. Lions odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Eagles have lost two straight and five of their last six games. They have allowed opponents to score over 30 points three times and over 40 twice. QB Jalen Hurts has 10 touchdown passes and 5 rushing touchdowns, and he has been intercepted 4 times.

The winless Lions are not particularly good on either side of the ball. They are 28ths in scoring at 18.3 points per game, 25th in points allowed at 28.6 per game and have turned the ball over multiple times in four of their seven games.

QB Jared Goff has still never won a game a starter with a head coach other than Sean McVay. He went winless his rookie season, the year before McVay was hired by the Los Angeles Rams, and is winless since the trade to the Lions.

Eagles at Lions odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Eagle 20, Lions 17

Money line

There isn’t any real reason to think that the Lions are suddenly going to win a game. They will at some point, however, not having their two top running backs at 100% is not ideal, especially when the Lions already struggle offensively.

The Eagles aren’t exactly a sure bet on the money line, but they have had a challenging schedule so far. They’ve beaten the supposed lesser opponents on their schedule (Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers).

I LEAN EAGLES (-190).

Against the spread

While I lean toward the Eagles winning, I think it will be close. Philly is 3-4 ATS and the Lions are 4-3 ATS.

The Lions have three one-score losses, two of them by only two points each.

It will stay within a field goal. Take the LIONS +3.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Eagles have scored at least 30 points twice this season, but they have averaged 19.4 points in the other five games.

The Lions have not scored more than 20 in a game since Week 1.

Take UNDER 48.5 (-110).

Underdog Corner: 3 best NFL picks and predictions for Week 8

Assessing the NFL betting odds and lines for Week 8, with three predictions and picks for the best underdog bets to make.

Forgive the Halloween pun, but it’s scary how well things have gone here in Underdog Corner this season.
Week 7 featured our sixth winning week and third 3-0 card of the season as the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts won outright Sunday, and the Seattle Seahawks covered at home Monday night. That brings our season against-the-spread record to 16-5 with 13 of those underdog selections winning outright.
It’s scary because we know regression could start pulling us back to the mean at any time, but hopefully it doesn’t start with…

NFL underdog predictions: Week 8

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday at 7:00 a.m. ET.

Detroit Lions +3.5 (-112) vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The 0-7 Lions are the only team still searching for its first win, but coach Dan Campbell’s crew has certainly been feisty, posting a 4-3 ATS record so far.

Jalen Hurts and the Eagles, meanwhile, have been less than inspiring at 2-5 overall and 3-4 ATS, and this is a prime opportunity for the Lions to break into the win column.

But even if it’s yet another heartbreaker for Detroit via a last-second field goal, we’ll still be good getting the 3.5 points.

Houston Texans +14.5 (-115) vs. Los Angeles Rams

So why would we side with a 1-6 team that has dropped six straight and averaged a league-worst 7.8 points per game over its last five outings?

It’s certainly far from comfortable with the opponent being the 6-1 Rams and NFL double-digit favorites also having covered at an 8-3 clip so far this season.

However, veteran QB Tyrod Taylor should be back for the Texans this week, sending overmatched rookie Davis Mills back to the bench, and that should be enough for Houston to get its third cover in four home games with the two-TD-plus cushion.

New Orleans Saints +5.5 (-108) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

We went against the Saints this past Monday night, and while they still prevailed 13-10 in Seattle, they didn’t get the cover as you could almost sense they were looking past Geno Smith and the slumping Seahawks and ahead to Sunday’s Big Easy visit from Tom Brady and the defending world champs.

The Saints did sweep the regular-season series last season, posting 34-23 and 38-3 wins, but the Bucs took full advantage of four New Orleans turnovers in the divisional-round playoff rubber match to advance with a 30-20 road win.

If Jameis Winston and Co. can avoid those costly mistakes Sunday, they’ll have a decent shot at upsetting the 6-1 Bucs, who have struggled at times defensively and are actually below .500 (3-4) ATS.

Detroit Lions at Los Angeles Rams odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Lions at Los Angeles Rams odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The winless Detroit Lions (0-6) will visit the Los Angeles Rams (5-1) on Sunday afternoon for a Week 7 matchup. Kickoff between these two NFC teams will be at 4:05 p.m. ET at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Below, we look at the Lions vs. Rams odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Lions are the last winless team left in the NFL, dropping their first six games under QB Jared Goff and coach Dan Campbell. They’ve had two close calls up to this point, losing 19-17 to both the Ravens and Vikings on last-second field goals, but neither the offense nor the defense has been particularly impressive through six weeks.

The Rams, on the other hand, are playing some of their best football. They’ve allowed just 28 total points in the last two weeks after giving up 37 to the Cardinals in Week 4. L.A. is trending in the right direction defensively. QB Matthew Stafford is playing well, too, throwing 16 touchdown passes – including four against the Giants last week.

Lions at Rams odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Rams 31, Lions 17

Money line

The Rams are heavily favored in this one, and rightfully so. They’re at home facing a winless team after blowing out the Giants 38-11. They should absolutely win this game and most likely will, but when it comes to value, it’s hard to see much with a money line of -1200.

I would PASS on the money line and instead consider wagering on the spread where there’s a much greater reward.

Against the spread

The Rams haven’t been favored by this many points all season, but it’s not uncharted territory for Sean McVay’s squad.

Since 2017, the Rams have been favored by at least 10 points in 10 games, covering six times and losing outright twice. The only other time they were favored by at least 15 points was last season against the Jets, a game they lost 23-20.

I like the LIONS +15.5 (-108) to cover the spread and keep it within two touchdowns.

Over/Under

The total has gone Over in four of the Rams’ six games but only twice in Lions games this season. Detroit’s offense is only scoring 18.2 points per game and ranks 28th in the NFL, and they’ll be going up against a team that knows their quarterback very well.

I like the UNDER 50.5 (-108) in this one.

Cincinnati Bengals at Detroit Lions odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Cincinnati Bengals at Detroit Lions odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Cincinnati Bengals (3-2) travel north to take on the winless Detroit Lions (0-5) Sunday in Week 6 for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff at Ford Field (FOX). Below, we look at the Bengals vs. Lions odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Cincinnati is coming off a 25-22 overtime home loss as 2-point underdogs to the Green Bay Packers. The Bengals missed two late field goals – one with 26 seconds left in regulation that likely would have won it and a game-winning attempt in overtime.

Detroit also suffered a heartbreaking Week 5 loss, falling to the Minnesota Vikings 19-17. The Lions, who at least covered as 10-point underdogs, were seconds away from their first win of the season, but the Vikings kicked a game-winning, 54-yard field goal as time expired.

Detroit led 17-16 with 33 seconds to go. Minnesota was back at its own 18-yard line but hit three passes in a row for 46 yards to set up the game-winning kick.

Bengals at Lions odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Bengals 21, Lions 20

Money line

The Bengals’ -190 price is a bit steep and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lions pull off the upset since they’re at home.

I could see sprinkling a few bucks on Detroit (+155), but I’ll PASS and focus on taking the points.

Against the spread

DETROIT +3.5 (-112) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager.

The Lions are 2-0 ATS at home this season. They lost to the San Francisco 49ers 41-33 as 9.5-point underdogs in Week 1 and lost to the Baltimore Ravens 19-17 (on an NFL-record 66-yard field goal as time expired) as 7.5-point dogs in Week 3.

The Bengals, who are 1-1 SU/ATS on the road, are definitely headed in the right direction, especially with the LSU combination of QB Joe Burrow (1,269 passing yards, 11 TDs) and WR Ja’Marr Chase. The wideout leads all rookies in receiving yards (456) and receiving touchdowns (5).

But asking a young squad to cover 3.5 on the road against a team hungry for their first win – with a veteran QB in Jared Goff (1,303 passing yards, 7 TDs) – is a tough ask.

Only play for a Full Unit if the line drops to Cincy -3.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 46.5 (-105) to WIN 0.7 UNITS.

The Lions have played 3 Unders in a row and haven’t scored more than 17 points in their last four games.

The Bengals have played 4 Unders in a row and haven’t scored more than 24 points in regulation.

There’s no reason to believe anything changes Sunday.

Underdog corner: 3 best NFL picks and predictions for Week 6

Assessing the NFL betting odds and lines for Week 6, with three predictions and picks for the best ATS underdog bets to make.

NFL pointspread favorites enjoyed their first winning week of the season in Week 5, but were unfazed here in Underdog Corner, hitting on two of our three selections to notch our fourth winning week of the season.

With the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills cashing, it ups our 2021 record to a nice and profitable 11-4 (.733).

Let’s see if we can keep the train rolling with our NFL underdog ATS picks and predictions of Week 6.

Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5 (-117) vs. Miami Dolphins

The NFL is serving up another London dud as the winless Jaguars take on the 1-4 Dolphins, whose only victory was a 17-16 opening-week escape at the New England Patriots.

Moreover, each side’s offense and defense rank as a bottom-five NFL unit in terms of scoring and points allowed per game.

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is hoping to play after a three-week IR stint with a rib injury, and that should provide a boost for a Miami offense which ranks 30th in passing (191.4 yards per game).

But with rookie QB Trevor Lawrence getting his NFL legs under him and the Jags owning a significant advantage in the run game with stud second-year RB James Robinson (fourth in the league with 387 yards while averaging 5.8 yards per attempt), there’s no reason why Miami should be favored by anything more than a point or two.

Detroit Lions +3.5 (-110) vs. Cincinnati Bengals

Yep, we’re on each of the league’s winless teams this week.

Head coach Dan Campbell’s 0-5 Lions have been particularly feisty with a 3-2 record against the spread and losing two of their last three on 54-yard-plus field goals on the game’s final play.

Led by the QB Joe Burrow– WR Ja’Marr Chase LSU connection that’s already clicked for five TDs, the Bengals are 3-2. But they are also 2-3 ATS, now a road favorite for only the third time since 2018 and are in a prime look-past-the-winless-opponent spot with a game against the division-leading Baltimore Ravens looming next week.

Take the scrappy Lions and the field goal-plus.

Tennessee Titans +5.5 (-110) vs. Buffalo Bills

Speaking of red-flag letdown spots, the 4-1 Bills are playing in their second straight primetime road game after notching a massive revenge 38-20 win at the host Kansas City Chiefs Sunday night.

The Tennessee defense, ranked 24th with 26.0 points allowed per game, is a clear concern facing Bills QB Josh Allen and the league’s highest-scoring offense (34.4 points). But if the 3-2 Titans can avoid turnovers (Buffalo has an NFL-most 15 takeaways) and get league rushing leader RB Derrick Henry (640 yards, 7 TDs) and the play-action game going with capable QB Ryan Tannehill, the hosts should be able to keep this Monday night matchup close.

If you hold off until closer to kickoff, you might even be able to catch more points with the Titans as the line has already gone up two full points after opening at Bills -3.5.

Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Lions (0-4) go on the road to play the Minnesota Vikings (1-3) in a game that may be a FRO battle (For Relatives Only) at U.S. Bank Stadium; kickoff will be at 1 p.m. ET Sunday. Below, we look at the Lions vs Vikings odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Lions lost three of their four games by 8 or more points, including two against NFC North rivals on the road. They played their best ball of the season against the Baltimore Ravens only to lose on an NFL record 66-yard field goal.

Minnesota is much more of a hard-luck story. The Vikings have outscored their opponents but are 1-3 on the season due to being snake-bit at critical times. Minnesota has the talent on both sides of the ball to win, but has never been able to get both of them working together. The Vikings could make the case they should be 3-1 or even 4-0, but your record says who you are and Minnesota is 1-3 for a reason.

Lions at Vikings odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Vikings 31, Lions 17

Money line

Minnesota is such a prohibitive favorite at -500, you’d be wrong to bet big to get a 20% return on investment. Detroit is so banged up on offense that it makes it virtually impossible to endorse taking the Lions as heavy underdogs.

AVOID this bet

Against the spread

The strength of the Vikings this season has been stringing together offensive drives of 10 or more plays. They haven’t been protecting leads much, but the Lions have been outscored 69-27 in the first half, consistently digging themselves a hole they can’t get out of.

With Detroit so hobbled at key positions on offense (top two running backs, top receiver and left tackle), if the Vikings can open a lead early like everyone else has, head coach Mike Zimmer’s defense will be in full attack mode. Take the VIKINGS -9.5 (-122).

Over/Under

The Vikings defense has shown marked improvement over the last two games against better offenses (Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns). With an Over/Under of 49.5, Detroit has to do its part to get to that number.

The Lions don’t look capable of scoring 21 or more points and if Minnesota has a double-digit lead, it will take the air out of the ball. Take the UNDER 49.5 (-110)

Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing the Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears Week 4 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The winless Detroit Lions (0-3) visit the Chicago Bears (1-2) Sunday of Week 4. Kickoff for the NFC North rivalry at Soldier Field is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we look at the Lions vs. Bears odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Lions covered the spread as 7.5-point home underdogs in Week 3 in a 19-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Detroit led 17-16 with 1:04 to go, but Baltimore PK Justin Tucker kicked an NFL-record, 66-yard field goal as time expired. Lions QB Jared Goff threw for 217 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in the loss.

Chicago failed to cover as a 7.5-point dog in a 26-6 loss at the Cleveland Browns last week. The Bears were outgained 418 to 47 in total yardage. Yes, 47 total yards (46 rushing, 1 passing). QB Andy Dalton sat with a knee injury, while rookie QB Justin Fields’ first NFL start didn’t go so well: 6 of 20 passing for 1 net yard with 0 TDs and 0 picks.

Bears Coach Matt Nagy said Sunday’s starting QB will be a “game-time decision.”

Lions at Bears odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Lions 14, Bears 13

Money line

If Dalton doesn’t start, bet a HALF UNIT on DETROIT (+130).

Chicago’s offense couldn’t get it going last week with Fields at the helm, as he was sacked 9 times.

If Dalton does start, AVOID.

Don’t fret if you fail to make a bet once the Bears name their starter. There’s money to be made on the UNDER (see below).

Against the spread

DETROIT +3.5 (-130) is the way to go based on the already mentioned struggling Chicago offense.

Detroit claimed a 34-30 victory at Soldier Field, Dec. 6, 2020, in the last head-to-head meeting and covered as a 3-point underdog.

Over/Under

UNDER 40.5 (-103) is the STRONGEST PLAY – 1½ times your usual wager.

It doesn’t matter who starts at QB for the Bears. This game should finish Under. We’ll just have to worry about defensive or special teams touchdowns.

The Lions finished with 17 points in each of their last two games. They scored 33 points in their opener, an 8-point loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but they scored 16 points in the final 1:53 of garbage time.

The Bears didn’t score a touchdown last week after tallying just four in their first two games – two apiece in each contest. Their scores (in order from the opener): 34-14 loss at the Los Angeles Rams, 20-17 home win vs. the Cincinnati Bengals and last week’s 26-6 setback at Cleveland.
