Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Atlanta Falcons at Detroit Lions Week 3 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Atlanta Falcons (2-0) visit the Detroit Lions (1-1) Sunday in Week 3 NFL action. Kickoff from Ford Field is set for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Falcons vs. Lions, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

Atlanta escaped with a 25-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 but was unable to cover as a 3-point favorite. The Falcons have scored 24 or more points in each of their first 2 games as QB Desmond Ridder has completed 68% (34-of-50) of his passes for 352 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT while also rushing for 38 yards and 1 TD.

Detroit suffered a 37-31 OT loss to the visiting Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, failing to cover as a 5-point favorite. The Lions’ offense looked very good in the loss, but their defense proved to still have a lot of unanswered questions. QB Jared Goff completed 28 of his 35 passes for 323 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT but the defense allowed 328 passing yards, 2 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs while only racking up 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss vs. Seattle.

Falctons Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 28, Falcons 21

Moneyline

PASS.

I like the Lions to win here but as (-165) favorites the line is a little too risky. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

LEAN LIONS -3 (-120).

I like the Lions to cover here as I like their defense to slow down this Atlanta rushing attack. Detroit’s defense only allowed Seattle to pick up 82 yards on 25 carries, leading me to believe that they should have some success slowing down rookie RB Bijan Robinson and 2nd-year RB Tyler Allgeier.

Detroit should be able to force Atlanta to be a pass-heavy offense, which favors the Lions in this game. If the Lions can do that and limit their own turnovers they should cover Sunday.

Over/Under

BET OVER 46 (-110).

Atlanta has yet to score fewer than 24 points in a game and the Lions proved that their offense is legit last week. I expect this to be an offense-heavy game that sees a lot of pass attempts for Detroit and I don’t think Atlanta’s secondary can contain a group that’s 4th in the NFL in passing yards per game (283.0).

Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Seattle Seahawks at Detroit Lions odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Lions (1-0) welcome the Seattle Seahawks (0-1) to Ford Field Sunday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Seahawks vs. Lions odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Lions opened the season up with a 21-20 win on Thursday Night Football over the Kansas City Chiefs, covering as a 4-point underdog. They use a dual-threat attack, ending with 118 rushing yards and 250 passing yards. RB David Montgomery led the way on the ground with 74 yards. The Lions finished last season 12-5 against the spread (ATS), the 2nd-best ATS record in the NFL.

The Seahawks were just 7-11 ATS last season and failed to cover their Week 1 opener against the Los Angeles Rams. Seattle lost 30-13 at home, closing as a 4-point favorite. QB Geno Smith ended just 16-of-26 for 112 yards and a touchdown. WR DK Metcalf led the way in the receiving game with 3 receptions on 5 targets for 47 yards and a touchdown.

Seahawks at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 27, Seahawks 23

Moneyline

PASS.

The Lions are the better side here. At home, they should win, but their -225 value to win outright isn’t worth a wager.

Against the spread

LEAN SEAHAWKS +4.5 (-110).

The Lions will be a popular pick to cover in Week 2 after beating the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs in Week 1. However, the Seahawks limited the Rams to just 2.3 yards per rush attempt, so it will have to be QB Jared Goff to beat Seattle in Week 2 instead of the Lions’ dynamic run game. After one week, the Chiefs ranked No. 1 in drops in Week 1 with 5.

The Seahawks have receivers that will be better when the ball gets to them and should expose a Lions defense that had holes in Week 1. Expect a bounce-back showing from Seattle and for it to cover. Take SEAHAWKS +4.5 (-110).

Over/Under

BET OVER 47 (-110).

The Seahawks don’t have the linebackers to be able to keep up with the Lions backfield, and with RB Jahmyr Gibbs looking to get an expanded role, the dynamic back could get loose often. Similarly, the Lions may not have the secondary to keep pace with three terrific Seattle receiving weapons.

The Seahawks should be more in tune offensively and top their 13-point performance in Week 1. The Lions were 10-7 O/U in 2022 while Seattle was 9-9 O/U. Take the OVER 47 (-110).

Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Detroit Lions at Kansas City Chiefs odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Lions and the Kansas City Chiefs open the 2023 NFL regular season at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on Thursday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Lions vs. Chiefs odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Lions wrapped up the 2022 regular season on a roll, winning 9 games, including a 8-2 straight-up (SU) record and 9-1 against the spread (ATS) mark in the final 10 games. While Detroit just missed out on the postseason, coach Dan Campbell’s team is receiving a lot of hype heading into 2023.

The Chiefs not only made the postseason in 2022, but coach Andy Reid and QB Patrick Mahomes hoisted another Lombardi Trophy together. Kansas City rejoiced after its team topped the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 at Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Ariz.

Against the AFC in 2022, the Lions went 2-3 SU and 3-2 ATS, with the Under holding a 3-2 edge.

Against the NFC in 2022, the Chiefs went 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS during the regular season, while also beating and covering against the Eagles in the Super Bowl. The Over was 4-2 in those 6 contests, including the postseason.

Lions at Chiefs picks and predictions

Prediction

Chiefs 29, Lions 26

Moneyline

Backing the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs (-225) will cost you more than 2 times your potential return, and that’s quite expensive in Week 1.

While the Lions (+185) might be a bit of a hype machine, things are undoubtedly moving in a positive direction for once in The D. The additions of rookies RB Jahmyr Gibbs and TE Sam LaPorta in the 2023 NFL Draft have strengthened the offense, and this game will be a good measuring stick game for Campbell’s bunch.

PASS.

Against the spread

The LIONS +5 (-110) are worth a look catching the points, although the opening line was +6.5. However, I think the Lions show up on Thursday night and give the Chiefs -5 (-110) a little bit of a scare after all of the pomp and circumstance surrounding opening night, the championship celebration, etc. And the Chiefs’ attack could be slowed with the possible absence of Kelce, who suffered a hyperextended knee in practice on Tuesday.

OVER 53 (-110) is the lean in this prime-time battle, but play it very, very lightly.

While I believe the side will be in question right up until the clock hits zeroes, the total should be in question right up to the buzzer as well. These are 2 teams with tremendous offensive units, and defenses which will struggle to contain the other side. It’s an exciting Week 1 matchup, and the scoreboard operator better limber up prior to the game. They’ll certainly be busy.

Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Lions (1-1) visit the Carolina Panthers (0-2) Friday in the final week of the NFL preseason. Kickoff from Bank of America Stadium is at 8 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Lions vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Lions were blown out 25-7 by the Jacksonville Jaguars to drop to 1-1 in preseason action. Detroit has now lost 6 of their last 8 preseason games. QB Nate Sudfeld threw for 80 yards and a TD against the Jaguars while QB Teddy Bridgewater, who is competing for a roster spot, had just 34 passing yards on 11 pass attempts.

Detroit is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 road games and 19-7 in their last 26 games overall.

Carolina dropped to 0-2 in preseason action after losing 21-19 to the New York Giants, their 5th preseason loss in their last 8 overall. The Panthers have only managed to score 19 points in 2 games. QB Matt Corral threw for 71 yards on 13 attempts while his competition for a roster spot, QB Jake Luton, had the only passing TD for the Panthers. RB Raheem Blackshear had 31 rushing yards and a TD. Carolina has struggled to finish drives, going a combined 8-for-23 on 3rd downs in 2 games.

The Panthers are 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 home games and 6-2 in their last 8 games overall.

Lions at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 21, Panthers 13

Moneyline

BET THE LIONS (+165).

I’m in love with this line. The Panthers and their rookie QB Bryce Young have looked bad on offense. He will need more help from his offensive line if they want any chance to succeed this season. I know Carolina is good at home ATS, but that matters little when it comes to a preseason game.

The Lions are the better team on paper and have to show better in this last game before their opener against the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. They have a lot of important rosters spots to lock down by the end of this game, the biggest being 3rd-string RB after Justin Jackson suddenly retired, Jermer Jefferson got injured again, and Mohamed Ibrahim was waived after an injury. RBs Craig Reynolds and Benny Snell Jr. are battling for the final spot and both players will get a lot of touches in this game.

You’ve also got 2 veteran QBs battling to be Jared Goff‘s backup.  Rookie QB Hendon Hooker will likely be put on the practice squad while  Sudfeld seems to have the lead on Bridgewater.

Against the spread

I love the Lions on the moneyline, so I’ll obviously take them with the points as well for a little insurance.

BET THE LIONS +4.5 (-110).

FOOTBALL NEVER STOPS

BET UNDER 37 (-110).

Both the Panthers and the Lions have been under this total in their 4 combined games. Carolina did not score a single point in their 1st preseason game against the Giants. Detroit put up just a single TD in their 2nd preseason game against the Jaguars.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Detroit Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Jacksonville Jaguars at Detroit Lions odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Detroit Lions (1-0) welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0) to Ford Field Saturday for preseason Week 2 action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET (NFL Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Jaguars vs. Lions odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Jags went on the road to Dallas beat the Cowboys 28-23 in their preseason opener. Rising star QB Trevor Lawrence played 2 series, going 5 of 6 for 36 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. QB Nathan Rourke got most of the action, passing for 153 yards and 1 TD on 17 attempts. Third-round pick RB Tank Bigsby had 9 carries for 52 yards. Expect similar splits from the starters in Week 2.

The Lions took a more conservative approach to their Week 1 game against the New York Giants. Detroit won 21-16, outscoring New York 18-3 in the 2nd half. The Lions were led by QB Nate Sudfeld, who went 15-for-28 for 194 yards and 2 INTs. First-round pick RB Jahmyr Gibbs ran 6 times for 19 yards and caught 1 pass for 18 yards, a good showing for the rookie. I would expect to see some action from the starters, like QB Jared Goff, in Week 2.

Jaguars at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Jaguars 24, Lions 21

Moneyline

PASS.

The Jags on the road at (-175) is a recipe for disaster. They might give Lawrence and company more time, but the Lions may also look to play some of their starters a bit.

Given the amount of the spread, that’s where the value is. The Jags are too expensive on the moneyline, and the Lions have better value on the spread. Look there for a team-specific wager.

Against the spread

LEAN LIONS +3.5 (-105).

The Lions should give Goff some time, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see WR Amon-Ra St. Brown get a series or two. Nonetheless, QB Adrian Martinez looked good and could captain a few successful drives.

The Lions looked good when things didn’t matter late in the game against the Giants. Dan Campbell will have his players competing for a full 60 minutes.

The Jags got a terrific performance from Rourke in the opener which may not be repeated. At this value, expect the Lions to be able to keep it close and take LIONS +3.5 (-105).

FOOTBALL NEVER STOPS
Live games, analysis and more 7 days a week: Get ESPN+

Over/Under

BET OVER 39.5 (-110).

The Jags put up 28 points in their opener and allowed 23. With Lawrence likely to get another 2 series, Jacksonville should be able to start the game off quickly. The Jags’ defense struggled, allowing 2 TDs and 199 passing yards to QB Will Grier. It may see similar issues against Sudfield and Martinez.

The Lions gave up 16 points to the Giants who were without RB Saquon Barkley and QB Daniel Jones. Against a more competent attack, the holes for the Jags should be there.

Given the way each team started the preseason and the pace at which the respective coaches will want to play throughout the season, expect points to be scored. Back OVER 39.5 (-110).

New York Giants at Detroit Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s New York Giants at Detroit Lions odds and lines, with expert NFL picks and predictions.

The New York Giants open up their 2023 preseason schedule against the Detroit Lions on Friday at Ford Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Giants vs. Lions odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Giants concluded the 2022 season with a 9-7-1 record in Brian Daboll’s debut year as head coach, advancing to the NFC Divisional Round before being eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles. New York added TE Darren Waller (via trade from the Las Vegas Raiders) to give QB Daniel Jones another go-to target in the passing game this season.

Expectations are high for the Lions in 2023 after they narrowly fell short of making the playoffs in 2022 with a 9-8 record. Detroit is looking to take another step forward with Dan Campbell at the helm and QB Jared Goff under center.

The preseason is only 3 games for each team that doesn’t play in the Hall of Fame Game, so starters will get limited — if any — playing time.

Giants at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Giants 23, Lions 21

Moneyline

Both teams are expected to take a step forward in 2023, but Daboll proved last year that he’s trying to win preseason contests. Daboll went 2-1 in the preseason in 2022, while Campbell has produced a 1-5 record in his first 2 preseason. That’s good enough for me to take the GIANTS (-150).

Against the spread

Even though I have the Giants securing the road victory, LIONS +3 (-110) is how I’d wager on the spread. Starters won’t get much playing time, but Detroit could deploy rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs and WR Jameson Williams to get them live-action reps ahead of the regular season.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

OVER 35.5 (-110) is the play despite it being the preseason. Both of these offenses should be improved this season, and each team needs snaps with their new weapons.

The Giants tallied 23-plus points in each of their 3 preseason games in 2022, and the Lions logged 23-plus points in 2 of their 3 exhibition games last year.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Lions (8-8) and Green Bay Packers (8-8) close out the NFL’s regular-season schedule with a Sunday night showdown from Lambeau Field at 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Lions vs. Packers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

Depending on earlier results, this game could mean a lot for both teams. With a victory, the Packers will secure the NFC’s No. 7 seed in the playoffs.

After a 41-17 drubbing of Minnesota as 3.5-point home favorites last Sunday, QB Aaron Rodgers and the Packers have rallied to win 4 straight after 40-33 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12.

The Lions would only be playing for a playoff spot if the Seahawks (8-8) lose at home to the Rams (5-11) earlier in the day — Seattle is a 5.5-point favorite, If the Seahawks beat the Rams, one has to figure the Lions will want to play spoiler to the Packers’ hopes.

After their own 41-10 home victory vs. the Bears in Week 18 as 4.5-point favorites, the Lions hit their Over/Under (O/U) season win total of 7.5 and are a victory away from a stunning playoff berth.

Prediction

Packers 31, Lions 28

Moneyline

PASS.

Green Bay (-230) is too high a price to make a straight wager on in this pivotal matchup for a playoff berth.

The Packers are rolling right now, but so are the Lions.

Against the spread

If you really want to bet the game now, DETROIT +5 (-110) is the play, but I’m going to wait until the Rams-Seahawks game goes final.

No matter what happens in the NFC West matchup, I love the Lions to keep it close. If Seattle beats L.A., eliminating Detroit, this line will jump, and we can get a better number on the Lions.

Even if the Seahawks lose, we won’t get a worse number then the +5 that is available right now. Patience is the name of the game with this wager.

Over/Under

OVER 48.5 (-112) is the correct side here.

Both teams scored 41 last week in a must-have situation and they’ll be ready to go again for this one.

Rodgers will be primed to get the Pack back to the playoffs and Lions QB Jared Goff has been playing excellent football recently.

The keys to this game will be WR Amon-Ra St. Brown for Detroit and RB Aaron Jones for Green Bay. Both should score and both will have opportunity for big plays.

Don’t look for a conservative plan from either coach as both teams will do everything possible to win — 48.5 points will not be enough.

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Chicago Bears (3-12) face the Detroit Lions (7-8) Sunday in an NFC North matchup on Sunday in Week 17. Kickoff at Ford Field is at 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Bears vs. Lions odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Bears lost 35-13 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 16, failing to cover as 8-point underdogs at home. Chicago has lost 8 straight games.

The Lions were defeated 37-23 by the Carolina Panthers in Week 16 as they fell short as 2.5-point road favorites. Detroit needs every win it can get in the final 2 weeks as the Lions are currently half a game behind the Washington Commanders for the No. 7 playoff seed in the NFC.

Bears at Lions picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 34, Bears 24

Moneyline

Go ahead and AVOID the moneyline in this game with the Lions being heavy favorites at home. Taking Detroit to secure the victory straight up isn’t worth the risk considering the minimal profit you’ll receive if the Lions win.

Against the spread

LIONS -6 (-111) is an intriguing wager despite Detroit getting blown out by Carolina in Week 16. QB Jared Goff has been much better at home this season and you can expecting him to play well against a team that has lost 8 straight.

The Bears are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Lions are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall.

Over/Under

This game understandably has the highest projected total in Week 17, so I’m siding with OVER 52 (-112). The Bears and the Lions will be playing in a dome and these are the bottom-2 teams in points allowed this season.

The Bears have gone Over in 5 straight games following a game where they scored fewer than 15 points. The Lions have gone Over in each of their last 4 games against an NFC team.

The Lions beat the Bears 31-30 in Week 10.

Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Lions (7-7) travel to Charlotte to take on the Carolina Panthers (5-9) Saturday at 1 p.m. ET (FOX). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Lions vs. Panthers odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Lions are on a 6-game winning streak and chasing a playoff berth in the NFC. They beat the Jets 20-17 last Sunday as 2.5-point underdogs. QB Jared Goff has led a high-octane offense sparked by RBs Jamaal Williams and D’Andre Swift and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Since moving back to Sam Darnold at QB, the Panthers have been playing better. They lost 24-16 to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week as 2.5-point favorites at home. While coach Steve Wilks has the team playing hard, the Lions are hungry and their offense can overmatch many defenses. The Panthers defense will have trouble containing the weapons Detroit can throw at them and this could lead to a lopsided game.

Lions at Panthers picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 30, Panthers 17

Moneyline

PASS.

Detroit’s -140 price is a satisfactory number for the Lions. Especially in a parlay. But the Lions will cover the spread so I would rather make a play there and save the juice.

Against the spread

BET LIONS -2.5 (-118).

Even if you do not feel the Lions will blow out the Panthers, getting the Lions at under an FG is excellent value.

The Lions are the better team and even if the bad weather comes as expected, the run game of Williams and Swift can carry the Lions to this victory. Williams leads the NFL with 14 rushing TDs and while the Panthers defense is okay, it’s not great. The Detroit offensive line has been stellar so far and the Lions will score 1 way or another.

Over/Under

BET OVER 43.5 (-110).

Detroit games are 9-5 to the Over this season while the Panthers are 6-8 to the Over. I expect the Lions to control the pace of this game and this means a lot of possessions and a lot of points should be in store. Many of the games have lower totals this weekend because of weather concerns. But this game should not be among them and the number is too low. OVER 43.5 (-110) is my FAVORITE PLAY.

Detroit Lions at New York Jets odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Detroit Lions at New York Jets odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Detroit Lions (6-7) travel to Jersey to take on the New York Jets (7-6) Sunday at 1 p.m. ET (CBS). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Lions vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The Lions come into this matchup with the Jets with the hopes of a playoff berth bounding in their heads. To get this, they will need to beat a Jets team who, after getting QB Mike White brutalized by Buffalo, will be forced to turn to QB Zach Wilson once again behind center. With Wilson back, the Jets will be forced to rely heavily on RBs Zonovan Knight and Michael Carter.

Detroit and QB Jared Goff have been on fire. In a 34-23 victory against the Vikings Sunday, Goff was 27-for-39 with 330 yards and 3 TDs. Including a TD to rookie WR Jameson Williams, who was appearing in his first game for the Lions after suffering a torn ACL in the National Championship game for Alabama in January. With the pass game getting another weapon and the run game still performing at an elevated level behind RB Jamaal Williams, the Lions are becoming more dangerous as the season goes on.

Lions at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Lions 31, Jets 20

Moneyline

The Lions have fallen to short ‘dogs on the road, and the -105 moneyline is in order here.

Take the LIONS -105 and run to the winner’s circle.

Against the spread

The spread really doesn’t offer much use here as you’re getting the Lions +1 (-110) in hopes of a tie for a steeper price than taking their ML outright.

PASS and take the Lions’ ML.

Over/Under

BET OVER 43.5 (-110).

While Wilson hasn’t been as solid as White, the Lions defense, despite getting better, is still not a great unit. Even if the Jets can only run the ball, they should get some points in this game. And I know Detroit will score. This makes me think 44 is just a bit too low for this one. The Lions get to 30 and I can see the Jets getting to 20. For this reason, give me the Over 43.5 (-110).
