Michigan’s Mr. Basketball is the most prestigious award you can win in high school basketball in Michigan. In 2021, that honor goes to incoming Spartan Pierre Brooks II. As mentioned in the tweet below he led Detroit Douglass to the Division 4 state title last week.

He becomes the 21st Spartan commit to win the award in the 101-year history of the award. He is also the first Spartan to win the award since Foster Loyer did 2018.

Brooks II averaged 33.1 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game in his senior season. Brooks II finished his career with 2,889 points which is the most of any senior edging out Foster Wonders who had 2,573 points. Brooks will be a great addition to a Spartans team that needs a lethal shooter.

A lot of the attention around Michigan State Basketball’s recruiting victories of late have been focused on Emoni Bates and Max Christie, but don’t sleep on Pierre Brooks II. The MSU 4-star commit has been tearing it up for Douglass Academy this season, absolutely putting on a show that Michigan State fans should be very, very excited about.

On Saturday afternoon, Brooks and Detroit Douglass Academy were up against Detroit King, when Brooks got a rebound off a free throw and immediately launched an 85-foot buzzer beating shot at the end of the third quarter… and it went in.
