Report: Deshazor Everett under went surgery for chest injury; expected to go on IR

A report came out on Thursday afternoon that Washington safety Deshazor Everett underwent chest surgery to fix an injury suffered last week.

A surprise report came out on Thursday afternoon that Washington safety Deshazor Everett underwent surgery on Thursday morning to deal with a chest injury that was suffered in Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The report comes from The Athletic’s Ben Standig, who says that Everett is expected to go on the injured reserve now.

We don’t know the extent of the injury or the surgery, but by the sounds of it you would have to believe that Everett could miss the rest of the season in Washington, leaving safety Jeremy Reaves to step up in his place. Since stepping up at the S position earlier this year in Washington, Everett has been a big part of the defense, bringing his physical playing style each and every game.

Injury Report: Deshazor Everett, Cornelius Lucas return to full practice

Both safety Deshazor Everett and LT Cornelius Lucas practice in full on Thursday, pointing to potential return on Monday night.

Things are starting to look a bit more normal on the Washington offensive line, with the return of LT Cornelius Lucas restoring some order in the front five. With Lucas coming back from an injury that held him out of the last couple of games, this will shift Morgan Moses back over to his position at RT, which he seemed happy about on Thursday.

In other injury news, we once again saw safety Deshazor Everett return to the field and going through positional work with the defensive backs, which was a great sight with the hopes that he can return in time for Washington’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday evening. Everett has missed the last two games with a high-ankle sprain, and there was reported on Wednesday to be some doubt that he would be back in time for Week 13, but consecutive days of practicing bodes well for his availability.

Injury Report: Deshazor Everett ruled out, Terry McLaurin questionable vs. Cowboys

The loss of Deshazor Everett was somewhat expected for Thursday, but having Terry McLaurin listed as questionable raises some flags.

There was some concerning news for the Washington Football Team on the final injury report of the week before their Thanksgiving Day game against the Dallas Cowboys. Safety Deshazor Everett was ruled out, as was somewhat expected, but wide receiver Terry McLaurin was listed as questionable to play with an ankle injury.

McLaurin had a big game on Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals, but he has been limited in practice all this week heading up to the quick turnaround on Thursday. We can hope that his questionable tag is more out of precaution than anything, but it some something to keep an eye on. It is also important to note that LT Cornelius Lucas is listed as questionable, which could be a big boost to the offensive line in Washington.

Deshazor Everett and Cornelius Lucas give hope for Thanksgiving return

Though Washington took it easy on Tuesday, the return of both Deshazor Everett and Cornelius Lucas was something to be excited about.

Though Washington is operating on a light schedule thanks to a quick turnaround that is brought on by a Thanksgiving Day game on Thursday, there was some very positive news on the injury front on Tuesday, with both Deshazor Everett and Cornelius Lucas returning to the field for some light work.

Starting with Everett, the safety has missed some time recently with a high ankle sprain, and there wasn’t initially a timetable for his return, and many assumed that he could be out anywhere up to five or six weeks. The DB returned to the field on Tuesday and went through some light running and backpedaling in numerous drills, which gives us some hope that he might be able to lace them up on Thursday afternoon and provide a huge boost to the defense.

Lucas, on the other hand, was seen with his leg taped up through stretching drills. It is unclear if he will be ready to play on Thursday, though his return doesn’t seem as pressing for Washington, with all due respect, simply because of the performance that the offensive line put on last week against the Bengals with Morgan Moses at the LT spot, and David Sharpe at RT. Washington was graded as the top offensive line in the NFL this week, allowing just one sack and four pressures on the day.

Rivera: The ‘ship hasn’t sailed’ on bringing in FA safety Eric Reid to Washington

Ron Rivera is still open to bringing in FA safety Eric Reid to help in Washington after injuries to Deshazor Everett and Landon Collins.

Washington has had a lot of tough luck at the safety position this season, with both Landon Collins and now Deshazor Everett succumbing to injury in the past month or so.

With both players down — Collins for the season with an Achilles injury, and Everett for an unknown amount of time with a high ankle sprain — coach Ron Rivera said on Thursday that the team might still be open to bringing in free agent safety Eric Reid to help out. The team offered Reid a spot on the practice squad earlier this season after Collins went down with his injury, but Reid turned it down, claiming that he felt he deserved a spot on the active roster instead.

There are still some young players on the roster that Rivera wishes to give a chance, but it’s good to know that the team is still willing to look to Reid as a potential replacement, someone who has a history with Rivera and still is good enough to play in the NFL.

Injury Report: Deshazor Everett, Cornelius Lucas, Geron Christian absent from walk-through

The left side of Washington’s O-line is banged up, causing a shake-up in the front while a replacement for Everett needs to be found.

Things looked a bit different for Washington on Wednesday, as the team went through a walk-through rather than a padded practice due to the intensive protocol they were placed under after a player tested positive for the coronavirus on Tuesday.

That player, Matt Ioannidis, has been on the injured reserve since early October, and did not travel with the team to Detroit last week, so there is some optimism that Washington won’t be extremely effected by this, but precautions have still been put into place for the right reasons.

Nonetheless, there were a few notable players that were absent from the walk-through on Wednesday, namely LTs Geron Christian and Cornelius Lucas. Christian has been dealing with an injury for the past couple of weeks, and now his replacement is also banged up and went down after getting rolled up on in Sunday’s game. Right tackle Morgan Moses stepped in at the LT position, putting David Sharpe at RT, and it appears the same might happen this week as well.

Safety Deshazor Everett was also absent on Wednesday after suffering a high-ankle sprain against the Lions. Washington doesn’t have a clear timetable for his return, so we will have to keep an eye on that one.

With Deshazor Everett injured, expect Kendall Fuller to spend more time at safety

The timetable for Everett to return is up in the air, so Fuller will move back to the safety position more in the meantime.

Mixed into all the disappointment and frustration that took place on Sunday afternoon during Washington’s 30-27 loss to the Detroit Lions was an injury that has the potential to shake up the defense in D.C. for some time going forward. Safety Deshazor Everett went down with a high-ankle sprain, and there isn’t a clear timetable for recovery.

When it comes to ankle sprains, high is always worse than low, with many players who experience a high-ankle sprain missing anywhere from 4-6 weeks, while a low-ankle sprain recovery timetable is much quicker.

So what will Washington do while Everett is sidelined? They have already been forced to go to rookie Kamren Curl in place of Landon Collins, which might have been a blessing in disguise, but now more questions remain.

On Sunday, Washington turned to S Troy Apke to fill in for Everett, which left a lot of fans with heads in their hands. Apke, who was benched earlier this season because of poor play, got beat deep on one of the last plays of the game, but luckily the receiver dropped the pass that would have ended the game. Every fan of the team has to be hoping that Apke doesn’t get a bulk of snaps at the position going forward, and luckily it seems that Washington will instead shift CB Kendall Fuller back a bit more instead.

Fuller played safety during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, so he has some experience back there and can be impactful back deep. He has already moved back there in bits and pieces this year with Washington, so expect that to increase going forward.

Deshazor Everett suffers high-ankle sprain vs. Lions; recovery timetable unknown

Washington safety Deshazor Everett will miss some time going forward after suffering a high ankle sprain on Sunday against the Lions.

Washington safety Deshazor Everett left the game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday afternoon, and it’s now being reported that he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain that could sideline him for some time going forward.

In his place, S Troy Apke came in for Everett on Sunday. Apke had the starting safety job at the start of the year, but was later benched due to poor play.

This is a tough loss for Washington, who is already without Pro Bowl safety Landon Collins, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury several weeks back. Now they will have to rely on Apke and rookie Kamren Curl, who has been very good in place of Collins.

Report: Deshazor Everett to start at free safety over Troy Apke

After struggling mightily to start the season, Troy Apke is losing his starting job to FS Deshazor Everett.

At long last, it seems that Washington fans are getting their wish, with free safety Troy Apke getting replaced in the starting lineup for FS Deshazor Everett.

This was reported before kickoff by NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, who confirmed that it would the Everett who will be taking over as the starter. In the past couple of weeks, Ron Rivera and other coaches have said that they are looking for certain combinations of players that work well together on the defense, and it’s not a shock to see that Apke has been replaced.

Though he won the starting job in training camp, Apke has struggled mightily so far this season, and it’s time to see if someone else can provide more support in the passing game.

Redskins send Deshazor Everett to injured reserve

Deshazor Everett will spend the rest of his season on IR.

The Washington Redskins won’t have safety Deshazor Everett for the remainder of the season.

Washington sent Everett to injured reserve Saturday, the team announced.

The reserve safety has dealt with ankle and shoulder injuries this year and the coaching staff said the latter flared up recently, spurring this move.

A severe lack of depth at wideout helped make the move an easier decision. Paul Richardson is still out and Trey Quinn remains in concussion protocol after a fine-inducing hit last week from a Carolina player.

Meaning, the Redskins were about to start three rookies at wideout with little in the way of depth behind them. With the additional roster spot they called up Darvin Kidsy off the practice squad to fill an extreme depth role.

While it’s an unfortunate end of the season from Everett, his recent three-year extension assures he’ll have the offseason to get healthy and back to competing over the summer.
