Charges dropped against former LSU and Washington Football Team player

Derrius Guice has yet to be re-signed after being let go by the Washington Football Team.

The Washington Football Team released running back Derrius Guice after being charged with four misdemeanors last year, but all charges have recently been dropped after reaching an agreement with his accuser.

Guice was charged with three counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property last year in Loudoun County. Guice was arrested in August 2020 after three separate incidents at his Ashburn home.

According to police reports,  Guice pushed his former girlfriend to the ground several times and “threw her phone into the street.” He also allegedly strangled her until she lost consciousness.

Although the charges have been dropped, the former LSU star has yet to be re-signed.

According to WTOP, defense attorney Peter Greenspun told District Judge Matthew Snow he did not expect this case to go to trial.

“No, sir, I don’t think so,” Greenspun said.

The 23-year-old faced potential prison time as all charges related to domestic violence. His former girlfriend attended the recent hearing and requested the case to be dismissed.

Details of the agreement have not been released.

Both the accuser and Guice released a joint statement saying they “both worked hard toward a resolution of their relationship” and they each wish the other well in the future.

Judge dismisses domestic violence charges against former Washington RB Derrius Guice

A Loudoun County (Va.) judge dismissed misdemeanor domestic violence charges against former Washington running back Derrius Guice on Wednesday.

The Washington Football Team released former running back Derrius Guice last August after his arrest for felony strangulation, three counts of assault and battery, and one count of destruction of property that allegedly occurred over a number of months in 2020 involving his then-girlfriend.

On Wednesday, a Loudoun County judge dismissed the misdemeanor domestic violence charges against Guice after he and the woman involved said they had reached a settlement, according to Justin Jouvenal of The Washington Post.

The settlement means Guice will not face a trial or have a criminal record.

Earlier this year, Loudoun County prosecutors dropped the felony charge against Guice. He was expected to go to trial this month to face the misdemeanor charges, but the settlement closes the case.

After the hearing, Guice’s attorney and the woman released a joint statement:

“They have both worked hard toward a resolution of their relationship and appreciate the input and consideration of the Commonwealth,” the statement read.

It’s unknown if the 24-year-old Guice will attempt to return to the NFL — if there is interest. There are still plenty of questions around Guice from his time at LSU.

Guice was the No. 59 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, and he spent two full seasons in Washington. He missed his rookie season with a knee injury. In 2019, he appeared in five games, rushing for 245 yards and two touchdowns.

LSU plans to ban Derrius Guice, remove his name from record books

LSU is reportedly in the process of banning Guice and removing him from all school record books.

The LSU football program plans to remove former star running back Derrius Guice from the school’s record books, a university spokesman told ESPN’s Heather Dinich.

On Aug. 7, 2020, Guice was arrested by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia. Guice faces charges that include one felony count of strangulation, as well as counts of assault and battery and one count of destruction of property.

The arrest of Guice took place after three incidents were reported to the Montgomery County police department in Maryland, where the person whom Guice is alleged to have abused resides.

The Washington Football Team subsequently released Guice.

Later that same month, two women accused Guice of sexual assault that allegedly occurred during two separate instances when Guice was a freshman at LSU in 2016.

Once these allegations were made public, another former LSU student came forward stating she had filed a police report in 2016 alleging that Guice took a partially nude photo of her without her permission, then shared it with his teammates, a felony under Louisiana state law.

The pattern of questionable character continued into 2021, when on March 26th, Guice was accused of sexual harassment by a 74-year-old woman. Gloria Scott was working security at the Superdome back in 2017, when she alleges the sexual harassment by Guice had occurred.

ESPN’s Heather Dinich reported the decision to ban Guice from the program and its record books Friday. LSU is expected to ban Guice from the program indefinitely and is in the process of removing his name from the school’s record books.

LSU also plans to part ways with its law firm, Taylor Porter, as part of the widespread changes stemming from a review of its allegations against its athletic department released last month, per Dinich.

Guice played for LSU from 2015 through 2017. He started his freshman and sophomore seasons as a backup to Leonard Fournette. Against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Nov. 12, 2016, Guice rushed for 252 yards, which is the second-most in a game in LSU history. Against Texas A&M on Nov. 24, 2016, Guice set the LSU single-game record by rushing for 285 yards.

Guice then entered the 2018 NFL draft – he was widely predicted to be drafted in the first round.

Then he wasn’t.

Guice fell out of the first round entirely due to questions about his character as well as previous incidents that arose throughout the draft process.

Guice was eventually drafted by Washington, in the second round, No. 59 overall.

More allegations about Derrius Guice’s muddled past at LSU come to light

Derrius Guice was ultimately released by Washington after being arrested for domestic violence charges, but new details about his time at LSU are troubling.

The former Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice hasn’t been on the mind of many fans of the burgundy and gold recently, thanks to the rising star of Antonio Gibson and the prowess that he showed in his rookie season.

However, more troubling details about Guice and his past in college at LSU show a history of alleged sexual harassment that leads one to understand more about his eventual release from the team after being arrested for domestic violence in the weeks before the 2020 season began. Guice was arrested in northern Virginia and charged with several counts related to alleged domestic violence, facing charges of strangulation, assault, battery and destruction of property.

Now a new report shows that this behavior might not have been a one-off, with a new story from the Citrus Bowl in 2017 providing a tough look for the former NFL running back.

The fact that LSU reportedly did next to nothing to reprehend or stop this behavior is another story entirely, but it might show why Guice dropped in the draft, and why he ultimately was shown the door in Washington. None of that was going to fly under Ron Rivera.

Former LSU RB Derrius Guice informed Washington he had ‘anger issues’ months before arrest

Jouvenal reached out to the Washington Football Team and received the following statement.

Former LSU star Derrius Guice was released after just two seasons by the Washington Football Team earlier this month after he was arrested on domestic violence charges.

In a story written Friday by Justin Jouvenal of The Washington Post, Guice informed Washington team officials he had “anger issues” months before his arrest on the domestic violence charges.

In response, Washington team officials referred Guice to a counseling service, which he attended on at least three occasions in January and February, according to Jouvenal who obtained the information via search warrants.

The Washington Post report was unclear if Guice informed the team of the domestic violence incidents for which he was accused of in March and April.

[lawrence-related id=10524]

However, JP Finlay of NBC Sports Washington reported on Saturday that Guice did not inform the team of alleged incidents. If Guice had told the team, Washington would have reported to the league who would then place Guice on the NFL’s Commissioner Exempt List.

Guice was not placed on the list until after his arrest on Aug. 7.

Jouvenal reached out to the Washington Football Team and received the following statement.

We will refer you to our August 7th statement on the release of Derrius Guice which stated that the Washington Football Team learned of domestic violence-related allegations against Derrius on the day prior to his release. We cannot confirm or deny any information regarding a private health-related matter for one of our current or former players.

Guice was arraigned on Friday and waived his right to have the five charges against him read. He appeared via video and only the judge could see him. Guice did not comment on the charges against him.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 1.

LSU football coach Ed Orgeron releases statement regarding allegations in Guice story

Orgeron responded to the allegations.

Former LSU running back Derrius Guice was accused of rape by two former LSU students back in 2016, according to a report from USA TODAY.

Guice, through his lawyer, denied the allegations.

In the report, written by Kenny Jacoby and Nancy Armour, several disturbing allegations surfaced regarding LSU and how much it knew and chose not to investigate.

One such allegation centered on head football coach Ed Orgeron.

According to a former player who was the boyfriend of one of the alleged victims at the time, Orgeron said, ‘Everybody’s girlfriend sleeps with other people,’ the former player told USA TODAY. That comment allegedly occurred one year after the alleged assault.

On Thursday evening, Orgeron responded via his Twitter account.

Orgeron acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations against Guice. However, he denied making those comments to the former player.

The LSU Tigers are tentatively scheduled to open the 2020 season on Sept. 26 against Mississippi State.

On Wednesday morning, USA TODAY released a bombshell report alleging former LSU running back Derrius Guice raped two women during his time in Baton Rouge.

The story, co-written by Kenny Jacoby and Nancy Armour, featured several disturbing allegations, some of which allege the school had knowledge of the assaults and chose not to investigate.

Later in the day, Austin Kemker of WAFB 9 in Baton Rouge, reached out to Guice’s attorneys — Greenspun Shapiro PC — and received this statement.

The statement alleges that no allegations of physical or sexual assault were ever brought against Guice during his time at LSU.

Officials at LSU refused to comment on the allegations, however, did release the following statement to USA TODAY.

LSU and LSU Athletics take all accusations of sexual assault with the utmost seriousness. Formal complaints are promptly and fully investigated and the rights and privacy of students are protected as stipulated by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Complainants are also strongly encouraged to report the offense to law enforcement and are provided information on health care, counseling and supportive measures available.

Guice played at LSU from 2015-17, rushing for over 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns during his college career. He went on to become a second-round pick of the Washington Football Team in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Guice battled injuries during his first two years in the NFL, playing in a total of five games. Washington released him on Aug. 7 after he was arrested on multiple charges related to three separate incidents of domestic violence.

Report: Derrius Guice accused of raping two women during time at LSU

Another allegation against Derrius Guice has come out, this time with two women saying he raped them during his time at LSU.

New allegations have come out against former Washington running back Derrius Guice, with USA Today reporting on Wednesday morning that two women have come forward and accused him of rape during his time at LSU just a few months apart in 2016.

According to USA Today’s Kenny Jacoby and Nancy Armour, “a USA TODAY investigation found that the women’s allegations were shared at the time with multiple people at the school — including at least two coaches, an athletics administrator and a nurse — yet the school does not appear to have investigated.”

In a statement, Guice’s attorney Peter D. Greenspun denied all of the allegations and questioned the timing of the story’s release.

“At no time were allegations of physical or sexual assault brought against Derrius during his years as a student-athlete at LSU,” Greenspun said in his statement. “To bring up such assertions only after the Virginia charges were initiated certainly calls into question the credibility, nature, and timing of what is being alleged years later.”

Guice was recently released by the Washington Football Team on August 7th after being arrested for an alleged string of domestic violence assaults, of which he turned himself in for.

According to the report, USA TODAY started investigating this new report on August 3rd, just four days before Guice was arrested and released by the WFT.
