Tennessee redshirt freshman defensive back enters the NCAA transfer portal.

Tennessee redshirt freshman defensive back Derek Taylor announced Monday he is entering the NCAA transfer portal.

“Last year was an unbelievable season on Rocky Top and I’m grateful for all of the moments I got to share with my teammates,” Taylor announced. “I would like to thank coach (Josh) Heupel, coach (Tim) Banks and the entire strength staff for giving me the opportunity to better myself.”

Taylor will have four years of eligibility remaining during his collegiate career.

The 6-foot-4, 209-pound defensive back came to the Vols from Greenbrier High School in Greenbrier, Tennessee.

Taylor did not record any statistics while at Tennessee.

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Taylor is from Greenbrier High School in Greenbrier, Tennessee. He played wide receiver and free safety at Greenbrier.

Taylor has offers from Austin Peay, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall and Michigan State.

The 2022 prospect is slated to be a preferred walk-on at Tennessee.

The Vols signed 20 players during the early signing period in December.

Taylor fits the profile of what Tucker is looking for. At 6’4″, Taylor has size and the ability to play multiple positions shows his athleticism.
