Joe Buck and Troy Aikman excited for MNF debut with Seahawks, Broncos

NFL commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are excited at the prospect of providing commentary on this particular matchup, which they are scheduled to do.

Now that the schedule for the 2022 NFL season is set, the general league conversation has turned to the most anticipated games. It is only May, but the hype for this upcoming season is already palpable largely because of all that has happened over this hectic offseason.

The game that jumps out immediately for Seattle Seahawks fans is their Week 1 contest against the Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football, in which quarterback Russell Wilson will return to the Emerald City.

NFL commentators Joe Buck and Troy Aikman are excited at the prospect of providing commentary on this particular matchup, which they are scheduled to do.

“I was thrilled with the schedule to see that as the opener,” Aikman said. “When you start looking at what potential games there are going to be, that was one that I certainly circled and thought, ‘Man, that’d be a great game if we were able to get it on Monday night.’ And to have it right out of the box is fantastic.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how Wilson fares with his new team and how the Seahawks will respond without a clear-cut franchise QB for the first time in a decade.

Buck expects the crowd to be raucous when Wilson takes the field on September 12, provided he doesn’t suffer a preseason injury that keeps him out of the game.

“I can’t imagine it being anything other than just a great celebration for a great athlete and all that he meant to the 12s there in Seattle,” Buck said. “I think it’ll be awesome.”

Last week it was the Denver women who claimed team of the week honors. This week it’s the Denver men.

The Pioneers just squeaked by to earn the team of the week after claiming their third consecutive Summit League Championship with a one-shot victory over runner-up North Dakota State. Denver had four players finish inside the top 10, including individual runner-up Carson Griggs, who shot rounds of 69-71-68 to finish at 8 under and tie his best finish of the year, five shots behind champion Nate Deziel of North Dakota State.

Denver is the first team to win three straight Summit titles since Western Illinois did so from 2006-08.

The Denver women had a week to remember in Kansas.

All five Pioneers finished T-12 or better at Sand Creek Station Golf Club en route to a 21 shot win at 7 over for their third-straight Summit League Championship and and 17th conference win in program history. The 7-over 871 final score shattered the Summit League Championship record by seven strokes.

Denver was led by junior Anna Zanusso, who finished as the lone player under par at 3 under to claim medalist honors by five shots. Zanusso’s score also broke the previous conference record that was shared by six players including former Denver players Jessica Carty, Sophie Newlove and Mary Weinstein.

All of the CFN Fearless Predictions

Washington vs Denver Game Preview

Why Washington Will Win

The offense isn’t all that bad, and it should be able to run a little bit.

Between Antonio Gibson, JD McKissic, and the legs of Taylor Heineke, the Football Team keeps on grinding with a ground attack that ran for 120 yards or more in three of the last four games.

It will help that Denver is bad at playing NFL defense lately.

The Broncos got run over by the depleted Browns, gave up a big day to Najee Harris and the Steelers, and struggled with Baltimore. Basically, Denver is good against the bad teams, and it’s got problems with the good ones.

Washington will keep this simple, partly because it has to. Run, hope the defense can keep taking the ball away – six in the last three games – and …

NFL Expert Picks, CFN Week 8

Why Denver Will Win

Yeah, Washington can’t stop anyone from throwing.

The Football Team is dead last in the NFL in passing yards allows, hitting ripped apart by Patrick Mahomes – yeah, the Chiefs actually played a good game this year – and allowing 220 yards or more through the air.

Teddy Bridgewater hasn’t been all that bad. He’s been beaten, battered, and bruised, but he’s a gamer who gets back Jerry Jeudy – maybe; he’s expected to give it a go – and should have the most weapons he’s had all year to work with.

College Football Expert Picks, CFN Week 9

What’s Going To Happen

Denver just isn’t that good, Washington can’t score.

Granted, the Football Team went against Buffalo, New Orleans, Kansas City, and Green Bay over the last several weeks, and Denver’s defense really has been slightly exposed – if that’s possible – against the run, but at home it’ll be when things start to turn around.

After going all of October without a win, the replenished Denver offense will come through with its best performance all month.

Trey Mancini at the Home Run Derby: photo gallery

Look at the Notre Dame product on his big night.

Trey Mancini may not have won this year’s Home Run Derby, but he won plenty of support with the 59 homers he slugged over three rounds. The Notre Dame product and Baltimore Orioles slugger is coming off of stage 3 colon cancer, but there was much more to the story than that. He had Irish pitching coach Chuck Ristano as his personal pitcher, fulfilling a promise he made after the duo teamed up to help him win the 2012 Big East Home Run Derby. Although it seemed far-fetched at the time, things always have a way of working out.

Were it not for Pete Alonso of the New York Mets putting on a winning show for his second straight win in this event, we’d be talking about something too whimsical for real life the comprehend. Alas, Mancini will have to settle for the title of Home Run Derby runner-up. Here are some images from his big night in Denver:

Watch: Trey Mancini video released to promote Home Run Derby

Get hyped for the former Irish star’s big moment coming soon.

It’s been quite a year for Baltimore Orioles slugger and former Notre Dame player Trey Mancini. His reward for coming back after being diagnosed with colon cancer, at least for the moment, is the opportunity to compete in this year’s Home Run Derby. To get fans excited about him being at the appetizer to the Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Denver, the following video has come out:

Mancini is one of the few bright spots for the struggling Orioles, achieving an OPS of .789, hitting 14 home runs and driving in 52 runs. He hopes to display some of his power when Irish pitching coach Chuck Ristano serves as his personal pitcher during the derby. He also might secretly be hoping that it will serve as a showcase for any team interested in him at the trade deadline. Whatever his motives are, he will want to take advantage of a moment during which the entire baseball universe squarely will be watching him.

Notre Dame product Trey Mancini to compete in Home Run Derby

The Irish will have representation for the return of the Home Run Derby.

For the first time, Notre Dame will have representation in Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby. That representation will come from Baltimore Orioles slugger Trey Mancini. The Irish baseball Twitter account sent its congratulations his way:

Mancini has 14 home runs this season and is among the major-league leaders in RBIs with 52. He joins a field that currently has Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angels Angels and defending champion Pete Alonso of the New York Mets. The field will be rounded out with five more participants before the event is held July 12 at Coors Field in Denver. It will serve as a tuneup for the All-Star Game the next day.

Mancini is in the middle of quite the comeback season after he missed 2020 to be treated for Stage 3 colon cancer. However, the Orioles are dead-last in the American League and pretty much have no further use for Mancini’s services. It’s likely he gets moved at or before the trade deadline, and there are a few teams that could benefit from him.

Peyton Manning to join Broncos’ Ring of Fame

Former UT quarterback Peyton Manning to be inducted in Broncos’ Ring of Fame.

Former University of Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning will be honored by the Denver Broncos.

Manning, who played for Denver from 2012-15, will join the team’s Ring of Fame. He becomes the 35th member in the Ring of Fame.

In Manning’s four seasons with Denver, the Broncos won 50 regular season games, four AFC West titles,  two AFC championships and Super Bowl 50.

In 2013, the former Volunteer, who has his number retired at Tennessee, set a single-season passing record with 5,477 passing yards and threw 55 touchdown passes. Denver scored a league-high 606 points and remains the only NFL offense to top 600 points in a single season.

Manning will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August.

He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the No.1 overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft.

The former Vol was the league’s Most Valuable Player five times and won Super Bowl XLI with the Colts and was the game’s MVP.

He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2017 and enshrined into the the Tennessee Athletics Hall of Fame in 2016.

That same year, he was named  the 2016 Tennessean of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Broncos cut former Vol Ja’Wuan James

Detailing VFL’s release from NFL’s Broncos.

The Denver Broncos have cut former University of Tennessee football player Ja’Wuan James.

James was released by Denver last week after he was placed on the non-football injury list.

James suffered an Achilles injury on May 4 while working out on his own away from the team facility.

The former Volunteer and offensive tackle opted out of the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

After suffering the injury and being cut, James forfeits his $10.58 million 2021 salary.

James played in just three games for the Broncos after signing a four-year $51 million contract prior to the 2019 season. He missed 13 games due to a knee injury in 2019.

James played for the Vols between 2010-13 and started 49 consecutive games while at Tennessee.

He was drafted by the Dolphins in the 2014 NFL draft, going with the No. 19 overall selection.

During his first season in Miami, James was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.

Ja’Wuan James suffers season-ending injury

Former Vol Ja’Wuan James suffers Achilles injury.

Former University of Tennessee football player Ja’Wuan James is expected to be out the entire 2021 season.

James, an offensive tackle for the Denver Broncos, suffered a torn Achilles on Tuesday.

He sustained the injury while working out on his own, away from Denver’s facility.

James, a first round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2014, opted out last season due to COVID-19 and since he was injured away from the Broncos’ facility, he may have to forfeit his $10 million salary, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter tweeted that Denver will not be obligated to pay James because he suffered the injury working out on his own and away from the team’s facility at the team’s voluntary workouts, which he has chosen to skip.

James, who played for the Volunteers between 2010-13, was a member of the PFWA All-Rookie Team while playing for Miami in 2014.

He has appeared in 65 NFL games and made 65 starts.
