New Steam sale discounts Resident Evil and other horror game greats

The Halloween Steam sale is here, and with it comes plenty of discounts on horror games, including Resident Evil and more

The Halloween Steam sale, appropriately called the Steam Scream Fest, is live now through Nov. 1, 2022, at 10 a.m.with slashed prices on dozens of the platform’s top horror games, including Resident Evil. There’s something for nearly everyone in the sale, including a not-insignificant number of games such as The Witcher 3 that don’t traditionally fall under the horror category, but we’re not complaining. Discounts are always welcome.

Headlining the Steam Halloween sale is Resident Evil Village with a 25 percent discount that drops the price to $29.99, alongside Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight, which is also running its own Halloween event through the end of October and shortly after. The remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are also on sale.

If that’s still not enough survival horror for you and you’ve avoided picking up the first Dying Light, now’s the time to grab it. The definitive edition, which includes dozens of DLC packs, is on sale for $9.99, and the game’s annual Halloween celebration is underway.

Other notables include indie hits Thymesia, V Rising, and Gloomwood, while the anime-minded among you can grab Corpse Party and Danganronpa at a frightfully low price as well. If you want the treats without the scares, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Cult of the Lamb, and Ghostwire Tokyo are for you.

There’s even a section on the Steam sale page devoted to horror games that make a great fit on Steam Deck, and they run without issue as well.

‘Never say never’ – Dead by Daylight’s creative director on Thanos and Chucky

One of the key developers behind Dead By Daylight would love to add Chucky and more.

Horror fans often act like every slasher film takes place within the same universe. That when Michael Myers is busy stalking babysitters, there are teenagers only a few states away guzzling coffee to avoid Freddy Krueger’s nightmare world. Unfortunately, it’s only a fantasy — no canonical through-line exits since most of these characters have different license holders. No, we won’t be mentioning Freddy vs Jason. Either way, a massive Avengers Endgame-like event movie can’t happen because suits in Hollywood hate fun.

Luckily, Behaviour Interactive is picking up the slack in Dead By Daylight.

For more than seven years, the 4v1 asymmetrical multiplayer phenomenon has been crossing over with every major horror franchise out there. Most recently, a second Resident Evil collaboration called Project W — something Dave Richard, creative director of Dead by Daylight, claims wasn’t in the cards even last year.

“It’s definitely not something we had planned for,” Richard tells GLHF. “But seeing reactions of the fanbase, both on the Resident Evil side and the Dead By Daylight side, it just made a lot of sense to go back.”

When work begins on Dead By Daylight‘s DLC chapters, the development team must analyze everything. The number of survivors, whether a killer’s abilities will break existing maps, or if a licensed character represents their respective franchise well enough. It’s a careful balancing act.

That’s why rumors of another Resident Evil chapter sent the community into a frenzy. Most everyone assumed that iconic stalker enemies like Lady Dimitrescu or Mr. X were shoo-ins. Behaviour Interactive heavily considered both options, but eventually went with the cool and collected series archvillain Albert Wesker. Nobody saw that choice coming, and his virus-infused skills would give the team creative wiggle room.

“We had done Nemesis one year ago, so we wanted to try something different,” Richard said. “Wesker is human, and we had to reflect his superpowered abilities in gameplay without falling into the monstrous aspect of [Resident Evil] while also making sure that he creates that same level of terror [as] the other killers. Going with his speed to catch survivors I think really worked.”

Wesker’s mortality was somewhat of a limitation, but Behaviour Interactive worked closely with Capcom to ensure the character’s backstory jived with gameplay. No matter how campy it may seem from a glance, Dead By Daylight has a skill ceiling that rivals League of Legends or Rainbow Six Siege. Sure, loads of people might want cosmic entities like Cthulhu to make an appearance, but godlike beings that can vaporize entire civilizations instantly would probably shatter any semblance of balance. Richard insists that the team can usually make it work, though.

“So there’s almost always a way to make [any] character fit into the metrics of research and development,” he explains. “It’s often a challenge when [there’s] characters with unique fantasies that we want to be well represented. If they break too many metrics, we can’t add them to the game.”

Of the 11 licensed killers currently in Dead By Daylight, Richard recalls one being tremendously difficult to adapt.

“Freddy Krueger,” he states. “Freddy can only appear while you’re sleeping – that’s the core fantasy. So creating [a] nightmare version of our world inside every map and mechanic was challenging.”

Behaviour Interactive trepidatiously walks this tightrope between staying true to someone’s lore and not breaking the game, which sometimes means giving up on clever ideas. Richard remembers joking about adding the ravenous Saint Bernard from Stephen King’s Cujo during early development streams. Sadly, a dog can’t shove people onto hooks, and bipedal creatures can easily break the line of sight. Anything that could shatter Dead By Daylight‘s fastidious looping-level design is out of the question too. Yes, that means the shark from JAWS isn’t happening — I asked.

While restrictions are in place regarding a killer’s size and shape, there isn’t necessarily an internal rule against toe-dipping out of the horror genre for collaborations.

“I always like to say that anything can be made into horror,” Richard says. “For instance, the [All-Kill chapter] with Trickster was a fun challenge: how can we make Kpop a slasher story and make it scary? I think we achieved that goal.”

He goes on to reveal that successful crossovers largely depend on how much artistic freedom a company or partner affords the team. Behaviour Interactive is willing to work with anyone, regardless of genre, so long as there’s leeway. Given that we live in an age where Ariana Grande can stab Goku with a lightsaber in Fortnite, it’s not too surprising that Richard is personally willing to push the cross-universe envelope pretty far. Even Thanos is possible, though incredibly unlikely.

“Never say never, I guess,” Richard says before bursting into laughter.

Plenty of legendary figures within horror have yet to debut in Dead By Daylight before we start seriously considering Marvel DLC, thankfully. Arguably no omission is more glaring than Chucky — the foul-mouthed homicidal doll that scared more 1980s kids than any other slasher villain. Unsurprisingly, Richard is personally open to adding the tiny crimson-haired menace.

“I would be interested,” he said. “Chucky is definitely an iconic horror character.”

The tricky part with Chucky is that he’s only about 29 inches tall, pushing that ever-so-delicate game balance boundary to its absolute limit. However, it wouldn’t be the first knee-high bad guy that Behaviour Interactive added.

“Look at Victor,” Richard explains. “[He’s] such a small character. There’s always a way to make it work.”

Earlier this year, Dead By Daylight surpassed more than 50 million players globally — an achievement that many believe is due to it becoming the “Smash Bros. of horror,” a nickname that its development team dared not dream of at one point.

“I couldn’t [have] imagined that. Before release, we knew we wanted to get crossovers in the game – it’s very freeform in how we can add characters from all sorts of universes,” Richard says while looking back. “But for me, it was three years in, we went to PAX, and [a] fan comes to our booth, and she shows me a tattoo on her arm that has Myers, Krueger, and Leatherface [surrounding] the Dead By Daylight logo. She was like, ‘it’s the horror hall of fame!’ I’m super grateful to work on such an amazing game.”

While we may never get that epic horror mashup film with every icon of the genre, Dead By Daylight might be one step better.

Dead by Daylight Halloween event adds new Tome and free weekend

Haunted by Daylight, Dead by Daylight’s Halloween event, adds new memories, charms, and much more to Behaviour’s hit horror game

Behaviour Interactive is ringing in scary season with Haunted by Daylight, the annual Dead by Daylight Halloween event, adding a brand-new Tome, new charms, and more to the horror game. The Dead by Daylight Halloween festivities start Oct. 11, 2022, and run through Nov. 3, 2022, giving you a short while after Fright Day itself to join in and see everything Behaviour has to offer, including a Dead by Daylight free weekend event.

From Oct. 11, 2022, players can access a special Collections shop themed around the Halloween event, following the recent edition of Resident Evil-themed characters and cosmetics. The next day, Behavior will add Tome 13: Malevolence and a slew of new memories focused on Ghost Face’s past – and the unfortunate souls who got in his way – with the survivor Mikaela weaving in and out of the story at times.

A new batch of charms and cosmetics accompanies the tome, including outfits and some exclusive masks for Ghost Face. These can be earned by playing through the Tome events and memories.

On Oct. 13, 2022, the Fog descends once more, obscuring the surroundings and making it harder to find where you’re going. On the bright side, it also gives Survivors an extra hand in staying one step ahead of their vicious foe.

“The Fog turns into a twisted playground for Horror fan favorite Ghost Face, and we’re happy to include him in our Halloween festivities,” Dave Richard, Dead by Daylight’s creative director said in a press release. “Ghost Face is a particularly terrifying enemy – being able to stalk his prey – and dedicated to striking Survivors down before they know what hits them and to have him as part of the Rift is a treat!”

And from Oct. 27, 2022, through Nov. 1, 2022, you can play Dead by Daylight and the Haunted by Daylight event for absolutely free.

Dead by Daylight’s second Resident Evil chapter is coming out soon

Behaviour Interactive has given a release date for Resident Evil Chapter 2 in Dead By Daylight.

After several weeks of pre-release hype, we finally know when Dead By Daylight‘s second big crossover with Resident Evil is coming out. Uroboros enthusiasts – get ready.

On Friday, developer Behaviour Interactive announced that the Resident Evil Chapter 2 DLC for Dead By Daylight will release on Aug. 30, 2022. Also known as Project W, the mini-expansion was previously only available via Public Test Build (PTB) access.

Revealed during the Behaviour Beyond showcase several weeks ago, Resident Evil Chapter 2 brings fan-favorite characters like Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers back as survivors. Albert Wesker is also returning as a killer, oh-so appropriately titled “The Mastermind,” as he’s referred to in Resident Evil Resistance — Capcom’s spin on asymmetrical multiplayer before partnering with Behaviour Interactive.

Resident Evil Chapter 2‘s cinematic trailer came out not too long ago, and it’s well worth checking out.

The DLC will launch simultaneously for every version of Dead By Daylight, including PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

As you might expect, fans are in love with the crossover. The first Resident Evil Chapter was popular back when it launched in 2021. So the follow-up will likely be successful too.

Dead By Daylight fans are loving the new Resident Evil DLC

Three more iconic Resident Evil characters are coming to Dead by Daylight, and fans are sounding off on Twitter.

Dead by Daylight is essentially the Super Smash Bros. of horror. It’s a beautiful playground for genre diehards to act out ridiculous scenarios where the kids from Stranger Things can get sliced and diced by Michael Myers. There’s just no stopping the ever-growing fan service train.

On Wednesday, Behaviour Interactive officially announced Project W, the second Resident Evil chapter for Dead By Daylight. Earlier leaks suggested that Ada Wong, Albert Wesker, and Rebecca Chambers would be next in line to make spooky loop de loops — and it’s now confirmed.

Before we proceed, make sure to watch the reveal trailer for yourself. As a lifelong Resident Evil fan, I can scarcely believe this is actually happening.

The first Resident Evil DLC was immensely successful for Behaviour Interactive and Capcom, so a sequel chapter makes sense. As you might have imagined, fans can barely contain their excitement. Take a look at the best reactions below.

Five exciting game announcements from the Behaviour Beyond showcase

The studio behind Dead By Daylight is branching out with several interesting new games and DLC.

For over half a decade, Behaviour Interactive has been known as the Dead By Daylight studio. Despite, you know, being in business for 30 years now! That’s understandable, given how monstrously successful its asymmetrical horror title is as of late — though the Montreal-based developer is branching out in a big way.

On Wednesday, Behaviour Interactive made several massive announcements during the Beyond livestream. What set this apart from previous showcases from the studio is it wasn’t solely focused on Dead By Daylight. Sure, there was some release information for a particular steamy spinoff and DLC teases galore, but Behaviour Interactive revealed several all-new games too.

Enough small talk, though. Let’s check out everything announced during the most recent installment of Behaviour Beyond.

Here’s how to watch the Dead By Daylight Behaviour Beyond livestream

The folks behind Dead By Daylight are hosting a unique showcase that’ll reveal upcoming games and content. Here’s when it’s all going down.

Behaviour Interactive, the folks behind Dead By Daylight, put together extravagant livestreams every so often. Typically just to show off whatever is coming next for the asymmetrical horror phenomenon. However, this one is a bit different, as there’ll be brand-new announcements regarding the studio’s other projects.

The Behaviour Beyond livestream is happening on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. PDT // 1:30 P.M. EDT // 5:30 P.M. GMT. It’ll broadcast on the company’s official Twitch and YouTube pages once go-time rolls around. No specifics regarding how long the show will be, but it’s a safe bet that it’ll be under an hour at least.

As for what will be revealed or shown off, we have no idea! Some safe predictions would be more information on Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim and perhaps the long-rumored second Resident Evil Chapter. Behaviour Interactive has been teasing other projects for a while now, so we might also see those. To clarify: this is all speculation on my part, so don’t take it as gospel.

Whatever might be at the showcase, it’ll probably involve some wild stuff. Behaviour Interactive is known for bucking trends in favor of very creative projects, so this should be a treat.

Dead By Daylight’s second Resident Evil Chapter seemingly leaks

Numerous fan-favorite Resident Evil characters like Ada Wong, Rebecca Chambers, and Albert Wesker might come to Dead By Daylight.

It’s looking as though Dead By Daylight is gearing up for another crossover chapter with a massive franchise for the second time.

Over the weekend, the well-known Twitter account DBDLeaks shared numerous screenshots and details regarding a second Resident Evil chapter. Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers, two new survivors, should be there. Unfortunately, we don’t have any ability information on either character since the perks haven’t been finalized yet.

Naturally, there’ll be a new killer — Albert Wesker, a fan-favorite villain from the Resident Evil franchise. His official title is apparently “The Mastermind,” and he has three perks that we’ll list below. All of this comes from DBDLeaks as well.

Superior Anatomy

  • When a survivor performs a fast vault within eight meters of you, this perk activates. Your normal vault speed is increased by 30/35/40 percent for three seconds.

Awakened Awareness

  • When carrying a survivor, you can see the aura of other survivors within 16/18/20 meters of your position. Auras revealed that way stay visible for two seconds after you stop carrying the survivor.

Termins

  • When exit gates are powered, this perk activates. Injured downed, and hooked survivors are inflicted with the broken status effect until the exit gates are open.

Naturally, you should take this with a pinch of salt, though rumors of a Resident Evil Chapter 2 in Dead By Daylight have been floating around since March. Behaviour Interactive will have a special showcase later this week on Wednesday. So we might hear concrete details then.

Dead By Daylight is doing another Resident Evil crossover

Project W will bring even more biohazards into the entity’s realm.

Everybody loves it when two massive franchises come together, right? Of course, but especially when the parties involved make everything jive, which is what Dead By Daylight often nails. Well, buckle up, as another big mash-up is happening soon.

On Tuesday, Behaviour Interactive announced Resident Evil: Project W — a new chapter coming to Dead By Daylight later this year. Unfortunately, the company didn’t give any hard details regarding the killer or survivor characters. Who needs official sources when leakers are out there giving us some hints, though!

Over on Reddit, user Glamarchy recently shared a screenshot claiming Resident Evil fan-favorites like Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers will be survivors, while Albert Wesker is the new killer. Take all of this with a pinch of salt, but “Project W” probably alludes to Wesker. All we can do is speculate for now.

Future chapters leaks from deadbydaylight

Project W is the second Resident Evil chapter for Dead By Daylight. Last year, iconic characters like Leon S. Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Nemesis joined the fray. Probably one of the more popular collaborations Behaviour Interactive has done. Another recent example would be the Ringu Chapter featuring Sadako.

As an avid Dead By Daylight fan and Resident Evil diehard, it’s exciting that another crossover is happening. I still wish Mr. X was a killer, though.

Hooked on You is a Dead By Daylight dating sim about smooching killers

Rob Zombie’s dream come true, no doubt.

After months of rumors and hype, Dead By Daylight is officially getting a dating sim spinoff.

During Dead By Daylight‘s sixth-anniversary event on Tuesday, Behaviour Interactive announced Hooked on You. This lighthearted visual novel where you can get to know the softer side of killers like Huntress, Spirit, Trapper, and Wraith on a tropical island vacation. Yes, it’s absurd in the best way possible.

“You wanted it? You got it! Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim mixes horror, humor, and romance to create a fresh way for fans to interact and create an emotional bond with their favorite Killers,” Mathieu Côté, head of partnerships for Dead by Daylight, said in a press release. “Our goal with our first visual novel is to provide fans with a completely unique and surprising new way to experience the world of Dead by Daylight.”

Check out the reveal trailer for Hooked on You: A Dead by Daylight Dating Sim below.

Behaviour is teaming up with Psyop, the studio behind I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin’ Good Dating Simulator for this project. There’s no release date for Hooked on You yet, but it’s supposed to come out later this year.

Behaviour also revealed that another Resident Evil chapter is coming to Dead By Daylight soon.
