Packers going into Day 3 of 2023 draft with 9 more picks

Only the Jaguars (10) have more Day 3 picks than the Packers (9).

The Green Bay Packers are entering Day 3 of the 2023 NFL draft with nine picks to make.

General manager Brian Gutekunst traded down twice during the second round, adding additional fifth- and sixth-round selections. He also has two extra seventh-round picks via previous trade (Rams for Corey Bojorquez, Jaguars for Cole Van Lanen) and a compensatory seventh-round pick.

“We have a great opportunity on this football team, and I think we’d really like to bring in some competition and see how we can add and move forward,” Gutekunst said.

The Packers have already selected edge rusher Lukas Van Ness, tight end Luke Musgrave, receiver Jayden Reed and tight end Tucker Kraft during the first two days.

The nine Day 3 picks rank as the second-most among all teams. The Jaguars have 10. The Rams and Patriots also have nine.

Although the Packers adhere by a “more picks, the better” philosophy, having nine on Day 3 will provide Gutekunst an opportunity to move around the board and potentially trade up for a player. Last year, the Packers made seven picks on Day 3.

The action begins at 11:00 a.m. CT on Saturday.

Packers Day 3 picks

Fourth round, 116th overall
Fifth round, 149th overall
Fifth round, 159th overall (from Lions)
Sixth round, 179th overall (from Bucs)
Sixth round, 207th overall (from Jets)
Seventh round, 232nd overall
Seventh round, 235th overall (from Rams)
Seventh round, 242nd overall (from Jaguars)
Seventh round, 256th overall (compensatory)

Day 3 sleepers for Packers to target in 2023 NFL draft

A staff at Packers Wire picked Day 3 sleepers for Green Bay to consider in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Green Bay Packers currently have 10 picks in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft, but seven of those will come on Day 3 when most of the highly coveted prospects are off the board.

However, in his first five drafts as the Packers GM, Brian Gutekunst has had some success in finding quality players on the last day of the draft.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Jon Runyan Jr. were good value compared to where they were selected, and just last year, Romeo Doubs, Zach Tom and Kingsley Enagbare showed a lot of potential as rookies despite being taken in the fourth round or later.

So, with the draft less than three weeks away, the staff at Packers Wire identified one player who is being overlooked and should be on Green Bay’s radar for Day 3.

Best highlights from Day 3 of Chiefs training camp

A look at some of the best clips, videos and highlights captured on Day 3 of #Chiefs training camp practice.

The Kansas City Chiefs were back out at Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, Missouri for their third full training camp practice of the year on Friday.

The team continues to ramp up their workload and pace as they inch closer toward their first padded training camp practice scheduled for Monday, August 1. The practice install period lasted a little longer as they continue to delve into the playbook on both sides of the ball. There was also a bit more work during 7-on-7 drills and 11-on-11 drills than there was in the previous two days of practice. The second team noticeably had more reps and opportunities to stand out in practice.

Below you’ll find some of the top highlights from practice sourced from various reporters, fans and our friends at KC Sports Network:

7 takeaways from Day 3 of Chiefs rookie minicamp

The #Chiefs’ final rookie minicamp practice is in the books. Here is what we’re taking away:

The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped their rookie minicamp on Monday. Rookies hit the field for the final time ahead of voluntary OTA workouts, which begin the last week of May.

Following practice, two rookie draft picks and one undrafted free agent — Joshua Williams, Nazeeh Johnson and Mike Rose — spoke to the media. Andy Reid was also made available to the media. The rookies and Coach Reid provided reporters with a recap of the weekend’s minicamp.

Below you’ll find seven takeaways from what they had to say:

Top Day 3 NFL draft prospects at positions of need for the Saints

Here are the top NFL draft prospects at positions of need for the Saints still available in Day 3, via @RossJacksonNOLA:

Good big boards are usually depleted by the end of Day 2 of the NFL draft, and that goes for Dylan Sanders and his top-100 players as well. However, there are still some surprising prospects available going into the third day of the draft for the New Orleans Saints to potentially take advantage of.

With two selections left, one fifth-rounder (164) and one in the sixth (191), it may be a while until the Saints are on the board. But they could also look to trade up. Here are some of the best prospects still available in what many consider “Special Teams Day.”

50 elite athletes the Packers could target on Day 3 of the 2022 NFL draft

The Packers have picked four elite athletes during the first two days of the 2022 draft. Here are 50 elite athletes they could target on Day 3.

The Green Bay Packers selected four elite athletes during the first two days of the 2022 NFL draft. If you consider third-round pick Sean Rhyan to be a guard, then the Packers picked four players in the 93rd percentile or better for relative athleticism at their respective positions.

“Size and speed is important to us,” general manager Brian Gutekunst said Friday night.

The Packers’ work through the first three rounds follows a continuing trend under Gutekunst. The roster-builder of this team wants top athletes.

Packers add help at LB, OL to start Day 3 of draft

The Packers picked Kamal Martin and Jon Runyan Jr. to start Day 3 of the draft.

The Green Bay Packers added developmental options from the Big Ten at need positions with their first two picks on Day 3 of the NFL draft.

Minnesota linebacker Kamal Martin, the pick at No. 175, and Michigan offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr., the pick at No. 192, should provide help in the middle of the Packers defense and for the depth of the offensive line.

Martin played several different positions for the Golden Gophers but eventually settled in as an off-ball linebacker. He flashed athleticism and some hitting power during a career year in 2019, although missed tackles and a knee injury marred the season. In Green Bay, he’ll join Christian Kirksey, Oren Burks, Ty Summers and Curtis Bolton at linebacker, one of the team’s weakest positions. Opportunities are available after Blake Martinez and B.J. Goodson departed in free agency.

Runyan Jr. looks like another prototypical Packers offensive lineman. He’s athletic, with strong agility numbers, and he played left tackle in college (24 starts the last two years). The Packers may want to move him inside to guard or center while maintaining him as a depth option at offensive tackle, especially after all the quality reps he produced against top Big Ten rushers the last two seasons.

In the past, the franchise has had a lot of success transitioning left tackle inside to guard or center. The Packers need depth along the interior, and Runyan could even provide insurance behind Corey Linsley, who is a free agent after the 2020 season.

The Packers have four more picks on Day 3, including two more in the sixth round. They hold picks at 208, 209, 236 and 242.
