When considering who was the best player to ever wear No. 9 for the Denver Broncos, two members of the current roster come to mind.
Riley Dixon played in Denver from 2016-2017, averaging 45.7 yards per punt with 31.5% of his punts downed inside the 20-yard line. Granted, it’s a relatively small sample size (32 games), but those two stats rank Dixon fifth and seventh, respectively, among punters in franchise history.
Dixon wore No. 9 in his first two seasons with the Broncos. When he returned to Denver this offseason, Dixon switched to No. 19 because wide receiver Kendall Hinton currently dons No. 9.
Hinter started his career as a practice squad wide receiver and he served as an emergency quarterback during the 2020 COVID-19 season. While his time at QB did not go well, Hinton will always be fondly remembered by fans for his willingness to take on a difficult task.
Hinton switched back to WR after that COVID game and he has totaled 39 receptions for 486 yards and one touchdown over the last two seasons (28 games).
While Dixon and Hinton deserve honorable mentions, the best Broncos player to ever wear No. 9 was kicker David Treadwell, who kicked for the team from 1989-1992, earning a Pro Bowl nod and All-Pro selection after his first season with the club. Treadwell ranks sixth on the team’s all-time scoring list with 429 points. He totaled 587 points in six seasons in the NFL, playing the final two years of his career with the New York Giants.
