K Chris Boswell on track to break the single-season field goal record

Chris Boswell is on pace to break the NFL single-season field goal record, fueling the Steelers’ strong start to their 2024 campaign.

The ‘Wizard of Boz’ is truly onto something special in this spectacular start to the 8-2 Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 season. K Chris Boswell has all but locked up a potential third-straight AFC Special Teams Player of the Month award for November, and he is currently on pace to shatter one particular NFL record.

The single-season field goal record is held by David Akers, who made 44 field goals during the 2011 season. Akers had previously broken the 2005 record of 40 set by Neil Rackers, but Boswell is on pace to leave Akers’ record in the dust.

Through ten games played, Boswell has attempted 30 field goals and made 29 of them. He is averaging three attempts per game and is currently on pace to hit 49 field goals in the 2024 17-game season after his six field goals made in Week 11.

If Boswell achieves this historic feat, should the kicker at least be considered in the 2024 MVP race? After all, Boswell is perhaps the most responsible for the Steelers’ fantastic start to this season.

Brandon Graham sets a new Eagles’ franchise record for games played

Brandon Graham has now set the Philadelphia Eagles franchise record for games played with 189, passing legendary kicker, David Akers

Brandon Graham is what you think of when speaking about a Philadelphia athlete. The Detroit native will go down in history after setting a new franchise record by playing in his 189th regular-season game as an Eagle.

Graham’s 14 seasons have now tied Pro Football Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik for most in franchise history, and he’s solidified his Ring of Honor ceremony in the not-too-distant future.

Graham was selected for his first Pro Bowl in 2020 and recorded his first double-digit sack season (11) in 2022.

Calvin Johnson, Jason Hanson among Lions nominated for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Will Calvin Johnson get in on the first ballot?

Calvin Johnson is the headliner among nine players with Detroit Lions ties who made the initial cut as nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame induction class of 2021.

Johnson is in his first year of eligibility after retiring following the 2015 season. He spent his entire 9-year career with the Lions, earning three All-Pro nods and making six Pro Bowls. “Megatron” still holds the NFL record for receiving yards in a season with 1,964 in 2012 and his 86.1 receiving yards per game ranks fourth all-time.

Longtime Lions kicker Jason Hanson, who ranks fourth all-time in scoring, joins several players from the 1990s Detroit teams on the nominee list. Left tackle Lomas Brown and guard/center Kevin Glover both made the cut. So did linebacker Chris Spielman and return man extraordinaire Mel Gray.

Three others who played for the Lions but aren’t primarily known for their time in Motown also appear on the list of 130: QB Dave Krieg, OLB Pat Swilling and PK David Akers.

The full list of nominees, which includes first-timers Peyton Manning and Charles Woodson, is available via the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The list of nominees will be reduced to 25 semifinalists in November. The selection committee then whittles down to 15 in January before announcing the class in February.
