Conditions for pick in Davante Adams trade to jump from 3rd to 2nd round

Davante Adams was traded by the Raiders to the Jets for a conditional second rounder. These are the conditions.

Tuesday morning Davante Adams’s time in Las Vegas came to an end with the team finally able to work out a deal with a team in trade. That team was the Jets, who were always considered the frontrunner to land Davante due to his ties with Aaron Rodgers.

What the Raiders were said to be asking for in return for Adams was a second round pick and more. What they got was a conditional third round pick which could turn into a second round pick.

We now know what those conditions are.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Adams would need to be either a first or second team All Pro OR on the Jets active roster with the team playing in the AFC Championship or Super Bowl.

https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1846200213578395966

How often has either of these things happened? Well, Adams was an All Pro three straight seasons from 2020-22. And he was active in the Conference Championship game four times, all with Aaron Rodgers. The last time being following the 2020 season. Adams has never played in a Super Bowl.

So, it could happen, sure. The two will have 11 games together this season to try and put it together.

Top teams interested in Davante Adams are going through some things right now

Davante Adams has several teams showing interesting in trading for him. But those teams have had a rough week.

The list of teams who are said to be leading the way in Davante Adams trade talks is rather short. And for most of those teams, it’s been a rough week. Let’s go through each of them.

New York Jets

They fired their head coach this week. Robert Saleh, and reportedly having nothing to do with his relationship with QB Aaron Rodgers. The reason is because the owner knows the Jets have a small window to compete for a championship and felt like Saleh was not maximizing the talent on the offense.

How this could affect any potential interest in Davane Adams is hard to say. You could look at is one of two ways. Either the owner thinks they have the talent to win, which would suggest they don’t need Adams. Or that Aaron Rodgers is basically the head coach on the field and therefore if he says Davante is the last piece necessary to make this offense what it should be, then they better get him.

Knowing the short window they’re dealing with would seem to raise the likelihood of going after Davante. For that, a second round pick plus doesn’t seem like a high price to pay.

New Orleans Saints

It was discovered this week that Derek Carr has will miss at least a couple weeks with injury and Spencer Rattler will get the start.

Carr started the season off white hot in the first two games, throwing five touchdowns to just one interception. But he’s come back to earth in the three games since, with the same number as interceptions (3) and touchdowns.

What if Rattler plays so well, they decide to stick with the hot hand?

The only reason Davante has the Saints on the list is Carr. So, with Carr’s future a bit uncertain, do the Saints still step up and meet the Raiders’ demands in a trade? Will they even have made that decision yet before the trade deadline? Important questions.

And on top of it all, Saints head coach Dennis Allen could also be on the hotseat.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Despite the Steelers being 3-2 with Justin Fields at QB, the team has not been pleased with his performance and are now considering benching him for Russell Wilson.

Even if the Steelers are interested in Davante, would it be wise for him to jump from one team with a QB controversy to another? Wilson hasn’t played well in some time. There’s a reason he was run out of Seattle and the Broncos are now paying him starting QB money to NOT play for them.

Oh, and the Steelers are coming to Las Vegas this week, so no chance that trade would happen this week.

Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys…are actually pretty stable at the moment. They are 3-2 and have won two straight. Though they scored just 20 points in each of those wins, which means they could certainly use a weapon like Davante Adams.

Antonio Pierce claims that when Davante Adams is healthy Raiders will play him

Will Davante Adams ever play for the Raiders again? Antonio Pierce says he will if he’s healthy and still on the team.

To listen to Antonio Pierce talk about Davante Adams, you’d think there’s nothing else going on with the All Pro receiver than a nagging hamstring issue.

“The update is Davante’s doing well,” said Pierce. “Hamstring’s getting there, he’s getting closer to getting back on the field. On the practice field and in good spirits. Talked to him, so everything’s good.”

Yeah, no. Everything is not good. Davante requested a trade last week and the Raiders have spent the past week and a half reaching out to interested teams trying to make that trade happen.

Putting a player on the field who doesn’t want to be here may not go over too well with the players who do want to be here. So, the question is, will Davante Adams play another snap for the Raiders?

“He’s still a Raider. He’s never not been a Raider,” Pierce said.

“He’s still a Raider. When he’s healthy and he can play, we’ll play him. He’s just not healthy right now. He’s getting closer though, that’s the good part. He’s working every day to get that hamstring right. He’s in the right head space, mentally. We talked recently and had a good conversation and he’s ready to play football.”

I’ll let you choose whether to believe that to be the full truth or not. And who knows if Pierce and Adams were able to smooth things over since the initial request.

One reason to take this high road of sorts for Pierce is to not put the leverage completely in the camp of interested teams. If he can convince them the Raiders are ready to keep Adams should they not up their offers, they will have more of a sense of urgency.

But, yeah, it’s hard to imagine Adams suiting up for the Raiders again at this point.

Davante Adams still on the Raiders means another week without him on the field

It’s barely Wednesday and reports have Davante Adams already been ruled OUT for Week 7 vs the Steelers.

It wasn’t necessarily the Raiders’ plan coming into this season to trade Davante Adams. But if it came to that, they wanted to wait until closer to the trade deadline. And it’s looking like they may get their wish…whether they like it or not.

Earlier this week Jay Glazer said some teams who are interested in Adams are “slow playing it” with regard to trading for the disgruntled All Pro receiver. Supposedly either because they want to pay less for him — his salary goes down around $900K each week that goes by — or to bring down what the Raiders will accept in trade.

Officially Adams dealing with a hamstring injury that popped up in practice the week after the team’s loss to the Panthers and has been lingering.

The thing is though, at this point, the Raiders can’t just put him back on the field. And, so, unsurprisingly before the week’s practices begin, the reports already have Adams expected to miss the next game.

This will be the third straight game Adams has missed. Two weeks ago he was ruled OUT just a day after initially leaving practice with the injury, when normally you’d expect his status to be Questionable. Then three days later he requested a trade.

Days later the reports were that he would be out 1-2 weeks with his hamstring injury. For such uncertainty about his injury, it sure seems early in the week to already assume he will miss the game, doesn’t it?

Yeah, something tells me the moment he is traded, that hamstring is going to miraculously feel a whole lot better.

Davante Adams not expected to play Week 5 whether Raiders trade him or not

Davante Adams not expected to play Week 5 whether Raiders trade him or not

It would be surprising and probably downright unwise for the Raiders to play Davante Adams and risk a new injury nullifying any trade in place. He missed last Sunday’s game against the Browns with a hamstring injury and a couple days later it was reported he had requested to be traded. Making some wonder if there was an injury at all.

According to reports, the Raiders are telling interested teams that Adams would not be healthy enough to play this week regardless of if he’s traded and perhaps next week as well.

Though I’d bet whether he’s with the Raiders after this week or not could play a role in whether he is out one week or two. After all, he wants out, so the Raiders want to trade him.

The trade deadline is still a month away on Tuesday November 5. There are four games between now and then. The Raiders bye week is the week after that.

Addressing Davante Adams trade news Antonio Pierce takes page out of Bill Belichick playbook

Antonio Pierce takes page out of Bill Belichick playbook when asked about the Davante Adams trade talk

We are less than 24 hours since the first reports came out that the Raiders are attempting to trade Davante Adams per the star receiver’s request. Antonio Pierce took to the podium Wednesday to start game week, so naturally the subject of conversation was the Adams trade talk.

His response was something right out the Bill Belichick ‘we’re on the Cincinnati‘ playbook, but with the rival Denver Broncos up next.

Q: You ‘liking’ the Davante Adams social media post, was that intentional on your part?

Antonio Pierce: I’m just focused on Denver

Q: Have you communicated with Davante and where is the relationship?

AP: Me and Davante talk often.

Q: Have you talked to him since all of this went down?

AP: I’ll leave that between me and Davante.

Q: Are you worried about all of this being a distraction?

AP: No. Because we’re focused on Denver.

Q: Given all the reports out there about Davante, how are you able to focus simply on Denver coming up?

AP: It starts with me. I get paid here to get ready each and every week for an opponent. I don’t blink, I don’t flinch. I’ve said it before, I’ve been through enough in my life with adversity that it doesn’t bother me. I just move forward. The next obstacle in front of me is the Denver Broncos. That’s what what I presented to my team and that’s what they’re doing right now in the meeting room and we’re about to go out to practice and do it versus the Broncos.

Q: You get the sense they absorbed that message?

AP: 100%

Q: Would a trade conversation be with you, or Telesco, or a combination of both? How would that go?

AP: I think everybody involved. Myself, Telesco, Mark Davis.

Q: With the Davante Adams situation, is there a message, a tone or a precedent you’re trying to set?

AP: No, just business as usual. You got to keep rolling. Things come up every day. Since I’ve taken over there’s been obstacles. This is another one.

What compensation Raiders said to be looking for in Davante Adams trade

Reports have the Raiders giving somewhat specific terms to teams interested in trading for Davante Adams.

Things seems to be picking up steam quickly with regard to a trade involving Davante Adams. First he’s suddenly missing a game due to a mysterious hamstring injury from practice, then his head coach is liking posts about trade rumors involving him, then they’re said to be shopping him, and, as it turns out it’s at his request.

Now we’ve moved to the compensation portion of the program. Which according to Adam Schefter would involve at least a round two pick along with other compensation.

Most probably assume “Additional compensation” would be a player swap as well. Perhaps a receiver the team taking on Davante would no longer start once Adams arrives. But it’s hard to say for sure.

You’d have to think that if a team expected to be low in the first round offered them a first round pick, they’d take that as well. Davante is still an elite receiver who could be the missing piece for a Super Bowl ring for the right team. Several teams you’d have to figure would step up to win that sweepstakes.

Davante Adams informed Raiders he wants to be traded

Davante Adams is requesting Raiders trade him.

Shortly after reports the Raiders have been shopping for a trade partner for Davante Adams, new reports have arisen that the Raiders moves are at the request of Adams.

For months now Davante has been fighting back speculation he is unhappy with the Raiders. And this news only confirms that speculation.

The whole thing really started with his appearance on the Netflix show ‘Receiver’ where he was clearly not happy with how the season was playing out in 2023 and his lack of catches. But he seemed onboard with the hiring of Antonio Pierce, which led some to believe all was fine now.

Next came the preseason where Davante was asked if he was going to play in preseason, to which he said if he’s choosing, he’s not playing.

Antonio Pierce was asked about it and he responded saying “No, if you’re healthy, you’ll play.

Ultimately, Davante didn’t end up playing, supposedly because of a minor injury of some sort.

Not long after that Desean Jackson went on a talk show and said plainly that Davante told him he was unhappy with the Raiders. While he didn’t flat deny what Jackson said, he refuted that he ever spoke to Jackson and added “If I was pissed off I wouldn’t be here right now.”

So, apparently Adams must be pissed off now. And it makes you wonder if he was really too injured to play against the Browns last Sunday or if the team sat him out because of his trade “preference.”

Raiders reportedly exploring trade options for WR Davante Adams

Raiders reportedly shopping WR Davante Adams in trade

Tuesday morning, Davante Adams made one of his regular appearances on Up and Adam with Kay Adams in which the host asked Davante about his thoughts on his head coach Antonio Pierce supposedly liking a post on social media that had trade speculation involving the All Pro receiver.

Adams said Pierce hadn’t even talked with him since that occurred.

That in and of itself isn’t proof something is happening on the trade front. People ‘like’ posts for any number of reasons.

But these happenings have turned smoke into what appears to be fire with a recent report by Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review Journal who says the Raiders are actively seeking a trade partner for Adams.

Adams was a surprise scratch last week after a sudden hamstring issue in practice during the week had him OUT on the Official injury report. He was seen on the sideline during the game supporting his teammates and in the locker room afterward as the team celebrated their win over the Browns.
