Hugh Freeze updates status of Daquayvious Sorey

He signed with Auburn back in December but it no longer looks like he will be joining the team.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] spoke at SEC Media Days on Tuesday and he provided an update on wide receiver [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag], who no longer appears set to join the program.

Freeze expressed optimism that JUCO defensive lineman Quientrail Jamison-Travis would be able to join the team for the season before telling reporters “not quite as much (confidence) about Sorey.”

Sorey was Auburn’s only high school wide receiver in the class and signed with the program back in December. The three-star prospect now appears to be taking the JUCO route, adding #JUCOPRODUCT to his Instagram bio.

He was ranked as the No. 471 overall player and No. 63 wide receiver in the 247Sports Composite ranking. The Campbellton, Florida product was also the No. 85 player from The Sunshine State.

While he was Auburn’s only high school signee they also added four receivers out of the transfer portal in [autotag]Nick Mardner[/autotag], [autotag]Shane Hooks[/autotag], [autotag]Jyaire Shorter[/autotag] and [autotag]Caleb Burton[/autotag].

Auburn reveals jersey numbers for freshman summer enrollees

Here’s a look at what number each of Auburn’s freshman summer enrolles will wear.

Auburn put some finishing touches on its roster Tuesday with the announcement of the jersey numbers for the transfers and freshmen who enrolled during the summer.

Eleven freshmen enrolled over the summer and were officially added to the roster including running back [autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag], the highest-ranked offensive player from [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag]’s transitional class.

While Cobb has a chance to contribute immediately, quarterback [autotag]Hank Brown[/autotag] and offensive tackle [autotag]Tyler Johnson[/autotag] will likely need time to develop before they are ready to see the field.

They also got some much-needed reinforcements in the secondary with cornerbacks [autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag], [autotag]JC Hart[/autotag], [autotag]Champ Anthony[/autotag], and [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], in addition to safeties [autotag]Sylvester Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Terrance Love[/autotag], and [autotag]C.J. Johnson[/autotag] all making it to the Plains.

They also welcome defensive lineman [autotag]Darron Reed Jr.[/autotag] who can play anywhere across the defensive line for the Tigers.

Two members of the 2023 recruiting class are still missing from the roster, freshman wide receiver [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag] and JUCO defensive lineman [autotag]Quientrail Jamison-Travis[/autotag].

Here is a look at each number the freshmen summer enrollees will wear their first season at Auburn.

Two Auburn football signees still working towards joining the program

Two members of Auburn’s top 25 signing class have yet to arrive on campus.

Summer practice is not far away and the Auburn Tigers are getting ready to begin preparing for the upcoming season.

Two newcomers to the program are still working to qualify to join the program. These players are [autotag]Quientrail Jamison-Travis[/autotag] and [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag] according to a report by Richard Silva of the Montgomery Advertiser.

Jamison-Travis is a three-star junior college transfer defensive lineman from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Sorey is a three-star wide receiver from Chipley, Florida. Both players have signed their respective letters of intent.

Freeze commented on the situation at an AMBUSH event in LaGrange, Georgia on May 17. According to Freeze, both players are still working on the things that would make them qualifiers.

“I feel good about one of them,” Freeze said. “The other, truthfully, I have a hard time knowing what to feel, really.”

Time will tell if Jamison-Travis and Sorey are able to be a part of the team this season.

Auburn offers No. 1 WR in the 2024 recruiting cycle

Auburn has entered the mix for 2024 five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo.

[autotag]Ike Hilliard[/autotag] may be recruiting high schoolers for the first time as a coach but he has hit the ground running.

He has already landed two four-star prospects in [autotag]Karmello English[/autotag] and [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag]. Not only is English Auburn’s highest-rated commit, but prior to Hilliard joining Bryan Harsin’s staff the Tigers were not even in the picture to land him.

With the addition of those two to the Tigers 2023 class, Hilliard has turned his attention to the 2024 recruiting class and he is going after some big targets. On Monday he extended an offer to five-star [autotag]Ryan Wingo[/autotag], the No. 1 wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Wingo, who checks in at 6-foot-2 and 198-pounds, is from Saint Louis, Missouri, and already has over 30 college offers. He is ranked as the No. 6 overall player by the 247Sports composite and it is easy to see why.

He also runs track and his speed translated to the football field where he is not only a deep threat but can also make defenders miss in space.

Class of 2023 pledge JC Hart enjoys first Auburn game as a commit

Hart, a native of nearby Loachapoka, grew up attending Auburn home games. Saturday, he took in his first game as a commit.

Auburn’s recruiting efforts as far as quantity is slowly coming together. But, two things that head coach [autotag]Bryan Harsin[/autotag] and other coaches have done well this cycle: bring in quality recruits and make sure that local recruits stay local.

One of those local commits, three-star cornerback [autotag]JC Hart[/autotag], was in attendance for Auburn’s season-opening win over Mercer on Saturday. While there, he did a short interview with Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente.

Hart, a product of nearby Loachapoka High School, told Clemente that he has attended many Auburn home games growing up, and used to beg his mother to take him joyriding to campus just to see Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Hart took in his first Auburn game as a commit on Saturday and says that it was an enjoyable experience.

“It’s been great,” Hart said. “I love everything about it.”

Hart was joined by fellow 2023 commits [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag], [autotag]Karmello English[/autotag], and [autotag]Bradyn Joiner[/autotag] in Jordan-Hare Saturday. Those four took advantage of the third-quarter lightning delay by using that time to talk more to Auburn’s coaches. By spending time with current players, coaches, as well as fellow recruits, Hart says that he already feels a part of the team.

Hart has played a key role in Lochapoka’s early-season success. The Indians are currently 3-0 and have allowed just 12 points over that span. In last Friday’s win over Verbena High School, Hart recorded a 92-yard pick-six.

BREAKING: Auburn lands four-star wide receiver for 2023

He’s Auburn’s second four-star wideout of the class.

Coach Bryan Harsin and staff just landed its second four-star wide receiver.

Florida prospect Daquayvious Sorey was universally expected to choose Auburn on commitment day, and he did just that on Friday. Sorey had narrowed down his final list of schools to include Miami, Florida and Alabama, among others, but he didn’t waver from the Tigers.

Sorey was first offered by Auburn on Feb. 2 of 2020. Shockingly, he hadn’t even visited Auburn’s campus since then, but the recruiting efforts of Auburn wideout coach Ike Hillard were enough to lure him to the Plains. Georgia was a possible contender, as his brother Xavien Sorey plays linebacker for the Bulldogs, but the Auburn Tigers were able to win his favor in the end.

Sorey played cornerback as well at Chipley High School, but he is projected as a wide receiver at the next level. He also played basketball and ran track and field along with football in High School.

Auburn becomes new favorite to land four-star WR

Auburn could land the commitment of a former Georgia pledge Friday.

Auburn football received good news on the recruiting front Saturday afternoon.

Not only did a major target announce his commitment date, but a major recruiting site is now predicting that Auburn is the frontrunner to earn his pledge.

[autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag], a four-star wide receiver from Chipley, Florida, says that he intends to announce his commitment this upcoming Friday, Aug. 26. In addition to Auburn, Sorey is also considering Alabama, Florida, and Miami.

Shortly after Sorey shared his news, On3 revealed that Auburn is the front runner to earn Sorey’s pledge. Currently, Auburn has a 96.2% chance to grab Sorey’s commitment, which leads in-state schools Florida and Florida State by an overwhelming margin.

Sorey was briefly committed to Georgia from Feb. 19 to Feb. 26. After taking a few months to reconsider his options, Sorey announced a new top-four on June 16, dropping the Bulldogs completely out of consideration.

According to On3, Sorey is rated as a four-star wide receiver. He is the nation’s No. 35 ranked receiver and is the No. 53 overall prospect from Florida. If Auburn were to in fact land Sorey’s commitment, it would pair well with fellow four-star commitment, [autotag]Karmello English[/autotag].

Florida football jumps up in ESPN’s latest recruiting rankings

The Gators broke the top 20 in ESPN’s latest recruiting rankings after landing multiple 4-star recruits.

Following the commitment of four-star quarterback [autotag]Markus Stokes[/autotag] and four-star running back [autotag]Treyaun Webb[/autotag], Florida jumped five spots in ESPN’s 2023 recruiting rankings

Coming in at No. 17, the Gators are quietly building a solid recruiting class in [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag]’s first full cycle as Florida coach. The new head coach’s strategy of keeping talent inside the state seems to be working, with 10 of the Gators’ 12 commitments hailing from the Sunshine State.

Florida’s 2023 class is highlighted by [autotag]Eugene Wilson III[/autotag]. The 5-foot-11-inch, 165-pound athlete is considered to be a top-30 player in the state of Florida according to 247Sports. The Gaither (Tampa, Florida) standout is the latest in a group of players to commit to the program, announcing his commitment on July 8.

The Gators will almost certainly continue to rise in the recruiting rankings. They are in the running to land Cormani McLain, a consensus top-five player in the country (No. 2, On3; No. 3, ESPN & 247Sports). After a visit to Gainesville in April, the Lakeland cornerback said his decision is down to Alabama and Florida.

McLain’s decision, along with [autotag]Derrick LeBlanc[/autotag]’s, [autotag]Will Norman[/autotag]’s and [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag]’s, among others, will go a long way towards showing players and fans alike that the future of Florida football is bright.

Gators earn a pair of recruiting predictions for this in-state 4-star WR

The experts feel fairly confident that Florida will be the pick on July 4 for four-star wide receiver Daquayvious Sorey.

Monday, July 4, is commitment day for Chipley High four-star wide receiver [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag], and the experts like Florida’s chances to land the in-state recruit.

247Sports’ Blake Alderman and Corey Bender of On3’s Gators Online both projected Sorey to pick Florida over Alabama, Auburn and Miami on Saturday. The Tigers sound like the Gators’ only true competitor at this point in the race and Bender says they are expecting Florida to be the pick.

Sorey was committed to Georgia for a year before backing off that pledge in February. A family connection to quality control coach [autotag]Lamar Sorey[/autotag] on Billy Napier‘s staff made it easy to reach out to him, and UF quickly took the lead. Florida State was the only other school to host him on unofficial visits, but Sorey left the Seminoles out of his top four.

His most recent trip to the Swamp came in late May and he’s been slowly narrowing things down since then.

The 247Sports composite ranks Sorey No. 179 overall in the class of 2023 and No. 26 among wide receivers. The On3 consensus is slightly less bullish on him at No. 205 overall and No. 31 receiver because of a three-star grade from the service’s individual rankings. 247Sports, on the other hand, has Sorey listed as a top-100 talent in the class in its individual Top 247.

Florida WR target sets commitment date, names Gators in top 4

Florida is in four-star wide receiver Daquavious Sorey’s top four as he mulls over his decision that will now be announced on Independence Day.

At one point, it seemed like [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and the Florida Gators would have to plan against four-star Chipley wide receiver [autotag]Daquayvious Sorey[/autotag] with him committed to the rival Georgia Bulldogs. A February decommittment put Sorey back on the market though, and Napier quickly got UF back in the mix.

Fast forward to June and Sorey’s top four now consists of Florida, Alabama, Auburn and Miami, according to On3’s Chad Simmons. He’ll pick among the four programs on July 4 and is working out an official visit schedule. The Gators and Tigers should host him over the next week or so, and the Tide has had him on campus in the past. The Hurricanes are the only team within his top four not to have brought him on campus so far.

“These four schools have shown me so much love, and I feel like they will help me fulfill my potential and help me get to the league,” Sorey said.

A three-sport athlete, Sorey flashed his above-average speed on the track with an 11.54-second finish in the 100-meter event as a sophomore. His cousin, Xavian, committed to Georgia as a five-star recruit in the class of 2021.

The 247Sports composite ranks Sorey at No. 179 among all recruits in the class of 2023 and at No. 26 among receivers. The site’s individual rankings have him in the top 100 overall, but On3’s service doesn’t even have him ranked nationally as a three-star recruit. He lands at No. 202 overall on the On3 consensus, an aggregate ranking similar to the composite.
