Notre Dame baseball has multiple players enter the transfer portal

The Irish see more than a few players enter the portal

After a disappointing 2023 [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball season, the Irish are seeing multiple players enter the transfer portal as the NCAA Tournament is set to start later in the week.

After two consecutive seasons making the tournament, last year making the College World Series, head coach Link Jarrett left for his alma mater, Florida State. [autotag]Shawn Stiffler[/autotag] was brought in to replace Jarrett and guided his team to a 30-24 overall record while being 15-15 in ACC play.

It wasn’t enough to make the tourney and just today, multiple players have entered the transfer portal. Find out below which Notre Dame baseball players will move on.

Notre Dame baseball wins Sunday, takes series over North Carolina-Greensboro

The Irish win their first series of the season

The [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] baseball team had a pivotal game on Sunday afternoon against host North Carolina-Greensboro and came out victorious 7-4. The Irish jumped on UNCG early, withstood their comeback attempt and evened up their record at 3-3.

The Irish used speed early as [autotag]Zach Prajzner[/autotag] stole second and [autotag]Brooks Coetzee[/autotag] drove him in to get the scoring started. Coetzee would then plate another run in the top of the fourth with a single and the Irish scored another on a walk and bad defense by UNCG. [autotag]Danny Neri[/autotag] would finish off the inning with a single plating two, giving the Irish an early 5-0 lead.

UNCG would score three of their own in the bottom of the fourth, but the Irish answered with one in the top of the fifth, scoring on a passed ball. [autotag]TJ Williams[/autotag] finished off the offense for Notre Dame with a RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Starting pitcher [autotag]Blake Hely[/autotag] struggled through 3.2 innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out just one. Relievers [autotag]Will Mercer[/autotag], [autotag]Matt Bedford[/autotag] and [autotag]Carter Bosch[/autotag] pitched clean outings while [autotag]Sammy Cooper[/autotag] gave up a run in his .2 innings of work.

Notre Dame gets back to action next weekend as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face UAB. Game one of the series is set to start on Friday, with first pitch at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Late game heroics send Notre Dame to a victory over North Carolina-Greensboro

Late game magic for the Irish

It was a back-and-forth affair in Greensboro, North Carolina but [autotag]Notre Dame[/autotag] found some of their magic from last year to help them defeat North Carolina-Greensboro 6-4 in the first game of their series.

The Irish jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning and kept that lead until the bottom of the sixth. The hosts would then match Notre Dame, scoring four runs themselves to set up a dramatic finish.

[autotag]Carter Putz[/autotag] led off the ninth inning with a single, and [autotag]Jack Penney[/autotag] striking out after him. It was [autotag]Danny Neri[/autotag]’s turn and he mashed a home run to give the Irish a 6-4 lead.

The dramatic finish didn’t end there as UNCG plated a run on a double giving them runners on second and third. Notre Dame reliever [autotag]Jack Findlay[/autotag], who took over in the bottom of the sixth, had enough gas as he stuck out Mitchell Smith for the final out.

The win evens the Irish’s record back to 2-2 early in the season. They are back on the diamond tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch set at 2:00 p.m. ET.

Notre Dame baseball blanks Monmouth, sweeps double-header

The Irish get another series win with one left to play

The Irish once again will go into a Sunday series finale knowing that they have won the series. The two games on Saturday were blowout by the Irish, first the 16-2 win then the nightcap, a 9-0 blanking of Monmouth.

Pitching was the story all day, first John Michael Bertrand spinning a gem, then in the second game, four Notre Dame pitchers combined for the shutout. Starter Austin Temple went five strong innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five. The Irish’s Ohtani, Jack Brannigan, was next on the mound, striking out each of the three batters he faced. Then Ryan McLinskey and Alex Rao finished out the game, with seven strikeouts between them. During the second game, Irish pitchers struck out a total of 15 Hawks.

Offensively, it was Zack Prajzner and Danny Neri, who each made their lone hit count, each racking up 3 RBI. Jared Miller and TJ Williams each had two hits for the Irish.

Link Jarrett’s team will conclude the series tomorrow, as they face off against Marist. The getaway day game will start at 12pm EST as the Irish look to complete the series sweep and improve on their 5-1 record.
