Three-star tight end Danny Lewis Jr announces his commitment

LSU loses out on another recruit

A highly coveted tight end has made his decision. Danny Lewis Jr of Westgate was originally committed to play at Cincinnati for Mike Denbrock. Once Denbrock left to take the offensive coordinator position at LSU, Lewis re-opened his commitment.

Lewis was down to three teams on National Signing Day with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Florida Gators joining LSU in his pursuit. The Louisiana native was looking like a sure lock to join the Tigers considering his recruiter was now on the Bayou.

With both of LSU’s main rivals getting involved, it became more of a fight for Brian Kelly and Denbrock. On Wednesday we finally got the answer as to where he would be continuing his football career.

The Tigers were looking for their replacement at tight end after losing Jake Johnson to the Texas A&M Aggies. It was a foregone conclusion that both Jake and his brother Max would end up together. Once Jake announced his commitment to the Aggies, it was a waiting game to see when Max would announce his transfer to their SEC West rivals.

However, on this day it just wasn’t meant to be as Lewis chose Alabama.

Social media reacts to the latest Brian Kelly dance video

Here we go again with Brian Kelly dancing viral video

Oops, he did it again.

After going viral with a ‘Callin Baton Rouge’ dance video with quarterback Walker Howard, it appears that Brian Kelly is shaking up the social media world once again.

This time it is with tight end target from Westgate, Danny Lewis Jr. The three-star tight end was committed to Cincinnati before backing off his pledge. Tight ends coach and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock decided to rejoin Kelly down on the Bayou. Lewis is among the top prospects that LSU is looking to sign as the final signing period approaches.

While we understand the social media age when it comes to recruiting, not everyone was as enthused with the video making the rounds. Even Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin had to chime in.

Former Cincinnati commit Danny Lewis Jr picks up an LSU offer

Former Cincinnati commit picks up LSU offer.

The LSU Tigers may have found their replacement for losing Jake Johnson to Texas A&M. Louisiana product from Westgate Danny Lewis Jr was committed to playing for the Cincinnati Bearcats. His recruiter was then offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock.

With Denbrock now at LSU it should come as no surprise to see Lewis trending for the Tigers. Just minutes following his tweet to announce that he would re-open his recruitment, Lewis announced an offer from LSU.

Lewis is rated as three-star tight end but has good size for the position. Standing at 6’4″ and 235 pounds, he has the frame to play tight end at a high level. Not to mention the sheer number of NFL-caliber tight ends that have played for Denbrock and Kelly, it seems like a no-brainer decision.

Adding Lewis would be big for the LSU Tigers offense. While he isn’t as highly touted as Johnson was, he still brings size to a position that they could use help with. While Jack Bech is technically a tight end, he is more of a receiver. Adding both Lewis and 2022 signee Mason Taylor might allow Denbrock to move Bech around to create mismatches.
