AEW Collision results 12/23/23: Eddie Kingston, back from the brink

Also on AEW Collision, Thunder Rosa made a triumphant return from a long injury absence.

A quick confession: Pro wrestling isn’t part of my holiday traditions. But there’s no reason it couldn’t be, especially since tonight’s AEW Collision is coming to us so close to Christmas.

This is no throwaway show, either, thanks in large part to its status as the final night of Blue League competition in the AEW Continental Classic. Andrade El Idolo and Bryan Danielson are in the best positions to advance, since they enter the night with nine points each. But everyone else except Daniel Garcia is still mathematically alive, so these three matches should be dynamite. No pun intended.

We’re also only a week away from Worlds End, so there should be more parts of that card falling into place as well. Let’s see what this night brings, and if we don’t speak again before then, Merry Christmas!

AEW Collision results from San Antonio:

  • Bryan Danielson and Claudio Castagnoli go to a time limit draw in their Continental Classic Blue League match; Danielson advances to the Blue League final thanks to getting to 10 points
  • A highlight package of Gold League matches from this week is aired, interspersed with some of the post-match promos cut by Jay White, Jon Moxley and Swerve Strickland
  • The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass def. Top Flight and Action Andretti by pinfall to retain the AEW World Trios Championship, though it appeared Max Caster may have pulled the tights to help secure the victory, which is something to file away

AEW Collision results 12/16/23: Eddie Kingston, Claudio Castagnoli stay alive

Also on AEW Collision, Thunder Rosa made her return to form a surprising alliance.

We’re getting down to the nitty gritty in the Continental Classic tonight on AEW Collision. For the Blue League, especially, several competitors are in must-win situations, particularly Eddie Kingston.

Maybe he wouldn’t be under so much pressure if he wouldn’t have put both of his titles up for grabs in this tournament, but he did and there’s no going back now. To get them back and become the first ever AEW Continental Champion too, he’s got to go on and win it all.

Kingston made that more difficult for himself by losing his first two round robin matches, but a victory over his archrival Claudio Castagnoli kept him alive. Kingston will need to win against Brody King tonight to still have a chance, and as luck would have it, Castagnoli is in the very same boat against group leader Andrade El Idolo.

All of which is to say that this is an important night in the Continental Classic, and there’s also a title defense by Orange Cassidy, always a good time. Let’s do this.

AEW Collision results 12/2/23: Bryan Danielson leaves Eddie Kingston down bad

Some intriguing matches also got set up for Dynamite and Final Battle on AEW Collision this week.

Saturday night’s alright for fighting, and tonight, it’s more than alright for fighting in a tournament. The Blue League of the Continental Classic takes center stage tonight on AEW Collision from Erie, Penn.

Most notably, Bryan Danielson makes his debut in the Classic as he’s only recently been cleared to compete. He’s back now, and he can compound the misery of one Eddie Kingston by beating the Mad King tonight.

Maybe Eddie is having some remorse over putting both of his championships up for grabs in this tourney, eh?

AEW Continental Classic participants, groups revealed

Take a look at the 12-man field and the groups they’ll compete in during the AEW Continental Classic.

Who doesn’t love a good pro wrestling tournament? AEW is hoping the answer is “nobody” as it prepares for its inaugural Continental Classic.

Undoubtedly drawing a bit of inspiration from NJPW’s annual G1 Climax, the Continental Classic will feature two groups, or Leagues, as they’re being called, of six wrestlers each. They will compete in round robin fashion against the other members of their League, with a point system for wins, losses and draws along the way.

The top two wrestlers in each League will go head to head on the Dec. 27 episode of AEW Dynamite, with the winners of those two matches competing in the tournament final at Worlds End on Dec. 30. Not only will the winner become the first ever AEW Continental Champion, but since Eddie Kingston also put his two titles up for grabs, that winner will also be a Triple Crown Champion defending three championships going forward (at least that’s what we gather).

Since only four wrestlers in the 12-person field were announced ahead of time, all eyes were on the Selection Special live stream Wednesday afternoon. Here’s how the groups shook out.

AEW Collision results 11/17/23: Final pieces fall in place for Full Gear

A special Friday episode of AEW Collision finalized some more stipulations and matches for Full Gear.

Saturday night may be alright for fighting, but when Full Gear takes up that night, AEW Collision has to try to prove that Friday is fine for fighting as well. It’s actually going to be a very full Friday, with Collision followed by Rampage and then an ROH taping.

But we care about Collision for now, where there will be several matches with potential Full Gear repercussions and another where someone will earn a TNT Championship shot … for later tonight on Rampage. We told you, there’s a lot of wrestling coming up.

With that in mind, let’s not waste any more time, we’re diving in.

AEW Collision results from Inglewood:

  • Tony Schiavone reluctantly holds the mic for Christian Cage, who claims Full Gear will be Sting’s last match ever and says he’s going to break Adam Copeland’s neck
  • Big Bill and Ricky Starks tell Lexy Nair that they’ve asked for and been granted the request to make the four-way tag team title match at Full Gear a Ladder match
  • Miro def. Daniel Garcia by submission, with Daddy Magic taking an accidental bump from Garcia after trying to stop Daniel from dancing during the match

AEW Dynamite results 11/8/23: MJF is running out of friends

The good news is MJF is still AEW World Champion. The bad news is the person in the Devil mask plagued him again.

It’s time to see what Daniel Garcia is all about on AEW Dynamite from Portland.

Garcia has had quite the journey during his time in AEW. Originally positioned as a no-nonsense technical wrestler, he did almost a complete 180 by joining the Jericho Appreciation Society. He’s now known even more for his hip-thrusting dance, though his in-ring skills certainly haven’t gone away.

He’s also competed against some of the best the company has to offer, including Bryan Danielson, Jon Moxley, Eddie Kingston and Orange Cassidy. Garcia is somehow still only 25 years old, so his best days may very well still be in front of him.

Perhaps this will be one of those days. Garcia has a shot at the AEW World Championship held by MJF, and while it would be shocking indeed for AEW to do a big title change on free TV just 10 days out from a pay-per-view — where it’s already advertised MJF vs. Jay White as a featured bout — stranger things have happened.

White has a hurdle of his own to clear tonight in Portland, where he’ll take on Mark Briscoe, who just recently returned from injury. White’s spot in the Full Gear match is on the line, but unlike MJF, the Switchblade has several buddies to watch his back and ensure he makes it out of Dynamite with that opportunity intact.

(And the title belt in his possession, since he’s been holding onto it even though it still belongs to MJF.)

Plus we’ll see Darby Allin and Sting in tag team action, Swerve Strickland vs. Penta, the in-ring return of Red Velvet, and a talking segment with the Golden Jets, Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho.

AEW Dynamite preview 11/8/23: MJF, Samoa Joe defend their titles (but not against each other)

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite also has Sting, Darby Allin and Swerve Strickland scheduled for matches.

Like the great Yogi Berra once said, it’s getting late early on the road to Full Gear. So tonight’s AEW Dynamite from Portland is going to answer two big questions about who will be holding and competing for certain titles two Saturdays from now at the Kia Forum.

Will the world championship scene change ahead of Full Gear?

Let’s start with the biggest one first. MJF is supposed to be facing Jay White in Inglewood in a title match that subverts the usual champion-challenger dynamic since White has been in physical possession of the AEW World Championship for weeks.

Yet both of them have their spots in that match on the line tonight. White is facing Mark Briscoe, recently returned from injury. Meanwhile, MJF has his belt up for grabs against Daniel Garcia, currently struggling with the whole pro wrestler/sports entertainer thing again.

No one expects either MJF or White to lose, but it’s interesting that these high stakes matches are even taking place with the PPV 10 days away. And hey, if Switchblade loses, he can just refuse to give the title belt back as that’s been working out pretty well for him so far.

Will Samoa Joe vs. Keith Lee steal the show?

It seems like just last week we were complaining about AEW giving Keith Lee nothing interesting to do … because it was. We’re not saying we manifested his ROH World Television Championship shot against Samoa Joe tonight, but it does kind of feel like that.

Even though Joe does not have a title defense scheduled at Full Gear, there’s still time for that. Or maybe Lee actually wins this and becomes a mainstay on ROH for a bit. Either way, we’re looking forward to it.

Will Toni Storm appear only in black and white during her segment?

This is a sillier thing to look forward to, but Tony Schiavone is supposed to have a sitdown interview with Hikaru Shida and “Timeless” Toni Storm before they clash over Shida’s AEW Women’s World Championship at Full Gear, and AEW suggested Storm would only agree to it if she was filmed in black and white.

While her gimmick appears it may be grating on some fans, we still can’t get enough of it, and we can’t wait to see what she might do in the lead-up to Nov. 18.

AEW Rampage results 11/3/23: Someone else is gunning for MJF

MJF has enough problems, but he may just have had another one find him on AEW Rampage.

It’s hard to feel too bad for MJF. He’s been AEW World Champion for a while now, has had some great matches this year, and even found true friendship thanks to Adam Cole.

But man, everyone wants what he has right now. His challengers are multiplying on what feels like a daily pace, so it should probably come as no shock if we said that someone else wants a shot at the Triple B.

Who, you say? Read on and all will become clear.

AEW Battle of the Belts 8 results: Daniel Garcia dances when he should be fighting

No AEW championships changed hands in Memphis, but that doesn’t mean the show was free of intrigue.

It’s that time again. And by that, we mean time for Battle of the Belts, AEW’s quarterly hour of nothing but title matches. It’s kind of hard to believe this is the eighth installment, one of those definite “time flies” things.

As is typical for these shows, tonight’s edition from Memphis doesn’t include a world title match but does have several of the other championships up for grabs. And it will be interesting to see if the House of Black makes its presence felt, as the group is back to full strength and flexed its muscle all over Dynamite prior to this show.

AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday results 10/10/23: New champs, overlapping feuds on super-sized show

See who won titles on AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday, and if Adam Copeland won his AEW in-ring debut.

It’s not that often that Tuesday night is the night for a big pro wrestling showdown. Monday night, sure, as they were the stuff of legend once upon a time. More recently it was Wednesday nights where a young AEW Dynamite and WWE’s NXT were on against each other, but that ended when NXT departed for Tuesdays. Alas, Dynamite was bumped up to Tuesday this week by the MLB Playoffs, putting them in direct competition for again one week only.

Happily, both companies took this very calmly and are proceeding like it’s business as usual.

Wait, what’s that? You say this is pro wrestling so they actually did the exact opposite of that?

That tracks. We’re here to talk about the AEW Dynamite part of this equation, which Tony Khan and company have dubbed Title Tuesday or Title Fight Tuesday depending on which X post we’re talking about. There are championship matches, sure. Saraya vs. Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Championship for one. Rey Fenix vs. Jon Moxley for the AEW International Championship for another.

But there’s more, including the AEW in-ring debut of Adam Copeland, the artist formerly known as Edge. Plus the first 30 minutes will be sans commercials, and Khan says he’s secured an overrun as well.

And if all of that wasn’t enough, there’s even a Buy-In pre-show like this was a pay-per-view, and no big deal, it just has Eddie Kingston vs. Minoru Suzuki. Damn.

AEW Dynamite Title Tuesday Buy-In results:

  • Renee Paquette and RJ City run down the full Title Tuesday card
  • Eddie Kingston def. Minoru Suzuki by pinfall to retain the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship and ROH World Championship Championship; after the bell, they exchange a few extra chops as a show of respect
  • Tony Khan provides an update: Jon Moxley is not cleared by AEW doctors, but Rey Fenix will still defend his International Championship tonight; Hook stops by and says it has to be Orange Cassidy since he never got a rematch, and he accepts in typically unenthusiastic fashion

  • Samoa Joe says he is about to show why he’s on the way to becoming AEW World Champion as well, starting this Saturday on Collision
  • Powerhouse Hobbs def. Chris Jericho by pinfall
  • Roderick Strong still has Adam Cole around, delaying his surgery and such
  • Orange Cassidy def. Rey Fenix by pinfall to become the new AEW International Champion, his second reign with the title
  • “Timeless” Toni Storm tells RJ City she has a new film called “Lover’s Lament,” which is a silent picture that plays during a side-by-side commercial break
  • Wardlow def. Matt Sydal by pinfall
  • Paquette tries to get a medical update on Jericho, and Matt Menard gets upset at Daniel Garcia for trying to check on The Ocho too
  • Jay White def. Hangman Adam Page by pinfall, thanks in part to Prince Nana’s attempted interference
  • MJF comes out to the stage to demand his world title belt back, and the crowd chants something obscene at White; MJF says he’s trying to be a better man even though it’s hard and explains why the title means so much to him, challenging White to do the right thing too — which doesn’t go well, with White saying they can do an eight-man tag team match and Juice Robinson saying he’s about to win the Dynamite Diamond Ring next week
  • Hikaru Shida def. Saraya by pinfall to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion, beginning her third title reign
  • Paquette catches up with MJF, who says politely that he isn’t in the mood to be interviewed and just wants to call Adam Cole for advice; he actually gets through to Cole, but the connection sucks and the call is cut off, but at least The Acclaimed offers to be his tag team partners …
  • … also, Daddy Ass and Anthony Bowens want to know why Max Caster is so infatuated with MJF, and Max says they’re friends — and that he likes when Max plays hard to get
  • Cage comes to the ring with Luchasaurus and mocks Adam Copeland, specifically his time with The Judgment Day and their time together in the past, saying Copeland needs him but he doesn’t need Adam; he also tells Copeland’s daughters their new father is coming home, and when Copeland sprints to the ring, Nick Wayne follows him and lays him out from behind; the ref checks on Adam but a match is underway
