Bears signing safety Dane Cruikshank

The Bears are signing safety Dane Cruikshank, who figures to serve as a depth piece.

The Chicago Bears continue to add to their roster through the later waves of free agency, addressing an important need in the secondary. The Bears are signing safety Dane Cruikshank, according to his agent David Canter.

Cruikshank, a former fifth round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, has spent the last four seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He’s played in 44 games, including four starts.

Last season, Cruikshank appeared in 14 games with four starts, totaling 43 tackles, one pass breakup and one forced fumble. He has one career interception that came in 2020.

According to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin, Cruikshank will sign a one-year deal with over $1 million fully guaranteed.

Cruikshank joins Eddie Jackson and DeAndre Houston-Carson as the third safety currently on the roster. While Cruikshank likely wasn’t brought in to start, he’ll serve as a key depth piece and core special teamer. He replaces the departed Deon Bush, who signed with the Chiefs earlier this free agency.

Titans designate Julio Jones to return from IR among 6 moves

Julio Jones is one step closer to returning to action.

The Tennessee Titans are one step closer to getting back wide receiver Julio Jones, as the team announced he has been designated to return from Injured Reserve.

Along with Jones, safety Dane Cruikshank and wide receiver Racey McMath have also been designated to return. This opens the door for each to return to practice, and eventually, the 53-man roster.

Tennessee desperately needs Jones to return and produce, as the team is very thin at wide receiver, with fellow wideout A.J. Brown on IR for at least the next two games.

In addition to those moves, the Titans waived outside linebacker John Simon from the 53-man roster, added linebacker Tuzar Skipper to the practice squad, and removed practice squad tight end Austin Fort from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

With Fort removed, safety Kevin Byard is the only remaining Titans player on the list.

After having a bye in Week 13, the Titans will return to action in Week 14 when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at Nissan Stadium, with kickoff set for noon CT.

Titans’ Adoree’ Jackson activated off IR, won’t play Week 10

Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson is officially off Injured Reserve.

The season will go on for Tennessee Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson.

The team had until Wednesday to make a decision to activate him or to keep him on Injured Reserve, which would have ended his season. Now back on the 53-man roster, Jackson spent three weeks on the “Designated to Return” list.

Jackson has suffered a knee injury ahead of the Titans’ first game of the season against the Denver Broncos.

But just because he’s back on the active roster doesn’t mean that he’ll be taking the field now. Jackson won’t play in Thursday evening’s game against the Indianapolis Colts, and the Titans still have the option to make him inactive on game days, of course.

Also on Wednesday, the Titans placed defensive back Dane Cruikshank on season-ending Injured Reserve.

The Titans will get back to action as they take on the division rival Indianapolis Colts in what could very well be a close matchup at 7:20 p.m. CT on Thursday in Nissan Stadium.

Titans activate Dane Cruikshank from IR; Adoree’ Jackson out for Week 7

Jackson will not suit up in Week 7 against the Steelers.

The Tennessee Titans will not be getting back their No. 1 cornerback this week, as Adoree’ Jackson was not activated from Injured Reserve on Saturday and will miss another game.

Instead, the team announced the activation of defensive back Dane Cruikshank from IR and he will be eligible to play on Sunday.

On top of that move, the Titans have chosen to elevate both linebacker Daren Bates and offensive lineman David Quessenberry for the Week 7 contest against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Barring any setbacks, Jackson should return in Week 8 after being designated for return and practicing all three days this week. His return is much-needed for a struggling Titans secondary that sorely misses him.

The move to elevate Quessenberry is likely in response to Tennessee losing left tackle Taylor Lewan for the season to a torn ACL. Quessenberry can provide some depth behind the team’s starting unit.

Tennessee and Pittsburgh will kick off at noon CT on Sunday.

Titans activate Jeffery Simmons from COVID-19 list, put Darrynton Evans on IR

Simmons has been the Titans’ best defender so far this season.

The Tennessee Titans should be getting back their best defender in Week 6, as the team announced that defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons has been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday.

However, there was also some bad news, as running back and 2020 third-round pick, Darrynton Evans, has been placed on Injured Reserve.

Evans had been dealing with a hamstring injury all season, and while he was able to suit up in Week 5, he was forced to exit early. The rookie can return after three weeks.

Along with those two moves, the Titans have moved safety Dane Cruikshank from IR to the “Designated for Return” list. This opens up the three-week window for Cruikshank to return to practice.

With Simmons coming off the list, the Titans have now activated nine players off of it since Saturday, and five players remain: wide receiver Corey Davis, fullback Khari Blasingame, tight end MyCole Pruitt practice squad players Breon Borders and Tommy Hudson. Hudson is currently serving a six-game suspension, though.

Titans make 4 roster moves, including placing Isaiah Wilson on COVID-19 list

For Titans rookie Isaiah Wilson, this is his second stint on the COVID-19 list.

The Tennessee Titans announced four more roster moves on Sunday, one of which included placing rookie offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

On top of the move to place Wilson on the COVID-19 list, the Titans also placed defensive back Dane Cruikshank on IR and agreed to terms with cornerback Chris Milton and running back Senorise Perry.

Milton and Perry will join Tennessee’s active roster, taking the spots originally occupied by Cruikshank and Wilson.

This is the second time Wilson has been put on the COVID-19 list. He started off training camp there before later being removed. Players on that list have either contracted the virus or come in contact with someone who has.

It remains to be seen if Wilson will be ready in time for the Titans’ season-opener on September 14. Thankfully for Tennessee, they aren’t depending on him to be the starter at right tackle, as all signs are pointing to Dennis Kelly winning the job.

Cruikshank had missed several practices in a row, and on Saturday Paul Kuharsky reported the defensive back was expected to have a brief stint on IR, so this isn’t a surprise.

Milton and Perry were on the Titans’ roster during training camp, but did not make the initial 53-man roster when cuts were announced on Saturday.

Report: Titans to place Dane Cruikshank on IR

Cruikshank being placed on IR will open up a roster spot for the Titans.

The Tennessee Titans will be down one defensive back at the start of the 2020 season, as Paul Kuharsky is reporting that Dane Cruikshank will begin the season on Injured Reserve.

Cruikshank, who made the Titans’ initial 53-man roster, has missed several practices in a row, although we still don’t know exactly what his injury is.

What this will do is free up a roster spot for the Titans, and that spot could be taken by the team’s newest acquisition, edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, who the team is reportedly set to sign.

As far as Cruikshank is concerned, new IR rules will allow the Titans to bring him back sooner than normal.

Players placed on IR usually can’t return for eight weeks, but in 2020 that time period has been shortened to just three weeks, so he may not be out for too long.

Whatever the case may be, the Titans will be just fine, especially now that Clowney is coming to Nashville.
