UFC on ESPN+ 28 post-event facts: Charles Oliveira sets, ties and extends all-time records

All the notable stats and figures to come out of UFC on ESPN+ 28, which took place in Brasilia, Brazil, and saw Charles Oliveira submit Kevin Lee.

The UFC returned to Brazil on Saturday for what turned out to be a historic event for multiple reasons. The card, which took place at Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, was held behind closed doors because of concerns about the spread of coronavirus.

Those concerns didn’t prevent the athletes from stepping into the octagon, though, and in the main event [autotag]Charles Oliveira[/autotag] (29-8 MMA, 17-8 UFC) continued to prove himself as one of the best in the UFC right now when he scored a third-round submission of [autotag]Kevin Lee[/autotag] (18-6 MMA, 11-6 UFC) to extend his winning streak and further etch his name in the record books.

For more on the numbers behind Oliveira’s win, as well as the rest of the card, check below for 50 post-event facts to come out of UFC on ESPN+ 28.

Fight Tracks: The walkout songs of UFC Brasilia, where no fans heard Jay-Z or Macklemore

Check out all the fighter walkout songs from Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 28 event in Brasilia, Brazil – which featured no fans in attendance.

While it takes intense training, world-class skills and maybe even a bit of luck to register a UFC win, picking the right song to accompany you to the cage is a key talent, as well.

Inside, see what the fighters from UFC on ESPN+ 28 went with as their backing tracks in Brasilia, Brazil.

UFC Brasilia: Renato Moicano finishes Damir Hadzovic, rages at empty arena

Renato Moicano was aggressive in finishing his opponent, then seemed even angrier about the lack of fans in attendance.

[autotag]Renato Moicano[/autotag] was not happy about the lack of fans at his hometown fight Saturday.

There was nothing he could do about that. But something that was in his control? Changing the fact that his lightweight bout against [autotag]Damir Hadzovic[/autotag], unlike the nine before it, would the distance.

Moicano (14-3-1 MMA, 6-3 UFC) put on an impressive show in their UFC on ESPN+ 28 main-card bout, earning the victory over Hadzovic (13-6 MMA, 3-4 UFC) in just 44 seconds via rear-naked choke at Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil.

That turned out to be just the start of the fireworks, as Moicano then inexplicably got in his defeated foes’ face before security separated them.

[lawrence-related id=499501,499789]

Asked by in-cage interviewer Michael Bisping what prompted his outburst, Moicano vented that his disappointment was because the stands were empty, as was decreed by the governor of Brasilia in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am sorry I am very frustrated because today,” said Moicano, who went on to call out Paul Felder, “I fought in my hometown, and I see nobody, I don’t see familiar faces.”

Regardless, the American Top Team competitor’s 14th career finish snapped a two-fight losing streak. Hadzovic now has dropped two in a row.

The lightweight bout was part of the UFC on ESPN+ 28 main card at Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil. It aired on ESPN and streamed on ESPN+.

UFC on ESPN+ 28: Renato Moicano vs. Damir Hadzovic odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 28 fight between Renato Moicano and Damir Hadzovic, with MMA betting odds, picks, tips and best bets.

Renato Moicano and Damir Hadzovic tussle in a lightweight bout on the main card at UFC on ESPN+ 28 – also called UFC Fight Night 170 – at the Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil Saturday. The card kicks off at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

Renato Moicano vs. Damir Hadzovic preview

Moicano (13-3-1) will be making his lightweight debut, moving up from the featherweight divison. He enters this bout with two-inch advantages in height and reach. He also holds a slight edge in Takedown Average at 1.16 to 0.68. In addition, Moicano has the 0.39-0.23 advantage in Submission Average.

Moicano is trying to slap the brakes on a two-bout skid, falling to Chan Sung Jung, a.k.a The Korean Zombie, in the man event in just 58 seconds last time out. He previously suffered a Round 2 KO/TKO at the hands of Jose Aldo. His last win came against Cub Swanson at UFC 227 back on Aug. 4, 2018, so he’ll be hungry. The Constrictor Team member will be looking to get this fight to the mat, as three of his past six victories have come via submission, including a rear-naked choke of Ismael Bonfim in his final bout before inking a deal with UFC.

Hadzovic (13-5-0), a.k.a. ‘The Bosnian Bomber’, represents Rumble Sports. The 33-year-old has split his past six bouts, as he is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Christos Giagos at UFC Fight Night on June 1, 2019. He is a heavy puncher who will be looking to stay upright and rain blows upon Moicano going toe-to-toe. If you remember his knockout of Marcin Held back on May 28, 2017, you know Hadzovic’s punch is no joke.

Renato Moicano vs. Damir Hadzovic betting odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:45 a.m. ET.

Per BetMGM, Moicano (-357) is a heavy favorite over Hadzovic (+275) on the 2-way line in this lightweight debut. That’s a lot of lettuce to risk on a single bout, risking nearly four times your potential return. There is a chance Hadzovic pulls the upset if he can keep the fight upright and avoid being constricted by the Team Constrictor member. The lean here is to go lightly on the favorite, although Moicano won’t be able to tap into a pro-Brazilian crowd since the arena will be empty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you like Moicano to win this bout, a parlay is the way to go, and you likely need to pair him with at least two other fighters to make it worth your while.

Try a Brazilian three-way bet, or a three-fighter parlay of Moicano (-357) Charles Oliveira (+115) vs. Kevin Lee and Gilbert Burns (-189) vs. Demian Maia has total odds of +321. For the less adventurous crowd, you can simply pair the two heavy favorites, with a two-fighter parlay of Moicano and Burns.

New to sports betting? A $10 three-fighter parlay of Moicano (-357), Oliveira (+115) and Burns (-189) returns a potential profit of $32.08.
