The Dallas Stars meet the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena Thursday to open their 2024-25 seasons. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+/hulu). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s NHL odds around the Stars vs. Predators odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; tied 2-2 in 2023-24

While these teams split the 4-game regular-season series, the road team won each of the meetings. Dallas is 6-2-0 in the past 8 meetings since Oct. 13, 2022. The Over has cashed in 3 consecutive battles, too, including a 9-2 win by Dallas in the Music City in the last meeting Feb. 15.

The Stars lost a bunch of key players, including Ds Ryan Suter and Chris Tanev, as well as Fs Radek Faksa and Joe Pavelski. However, Dallas replenished the depth with Ds Matt Dumba, Ilya Lyubushkin and Brendan Smith, while adding a quality backup with G Casey DeSmith.

The Predators picked up Stanley Cup winner and former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Steven Stamkos, as Nashville is serious about contending for a championship this season.

It also grabbed Vegas Golden Knights Cup winner Jonathan Marchessault to work with Stamkos on a retooled top line, and it plucked Ds Luke Schenn and Brady Skjei to bolster the back end, while signing former Dallas backup G Scott Wedgewood to serve behind G Juuse Saros.

Stars at Predators projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (35-14-4, 2.72 GAA, .905 SV%, 3 SO in 2023-24) vs. Juuse Saros (35-24-5, 2.86 GAA, .906 SV%, 3 SO in 2023-24) vs.

Oettinger was slightly better on the road last season than he was at home, going 18-6-2 with a 2.67 GAA and .912 SV% with 2 SO in 25 starts on the road. He went 1-1-0 with a 3.66 GAA and .897 SV% in 2 starts against the Predators.

Saros rolled up 22 victories in 39 starts at home in the Music City, while posting 2.91 GAA and .904 SV% with all 3 of his shutouts coming at home. He struggled in 2 starts against the Stars, going 0-2-0 with a 5.25 GAA and .865 SV% in 2 starts.

Stars at Predators picks and predictions

Prediction

Predators 3, Stars 2

Moneyline

The PREDATORS (-105) are a strong play at home despite the fact they’re short ‘dogs. Nashville made some giant improvements to the roster, including Marchessault and Stamkos. Look for those 2 players to fire out of the gates with their new team.

The Stars (-115) are seriously going to be a Stanley Cup contender, but it’s unfortunate they have a tough road game to open.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Predators +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return, and that’s way too risky of a play for not nearing enough reward.

If you like Nashville at home in the opener, just play it on the moneyline.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (+100) is worth a look at even-money with 2 strong goaltenders locking horns.

While, yes, Nashville added some key offensive components, it’s still tough to beat Oettinger. The Over cashed in the past 3 meetings, the Under has a 5-4-1 edge in the past 10 in the series since Feb. 24, 2022.

Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Stars (0-0-0) and Nashville Predators (2-0-0) meet Thursday at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+/Hulu). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook’s lines around the Stars vs. Predators odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars open their season in the Music City, where they have dropped 4 straight meetings. Dallas is also just 1-5 in the last 6 meetings with Nashville, so it probably wishes it could start almost anywhere else.

The Predators are back from a successful business trip to Czechia, winning a pair of NHL Global Series games against the San Jose Sharks to get the season off on the right foot.

Stars at Predators projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (30-15-1, 2.53 GAA, .914 SV%, 1 SO in 2021-22) vs. Juuse Saros (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .968 SV%)

Oettinger had a tremendous series against the Calgary Flames in the playoffs, allowing just 13 goals with a 1.82 GAA and .954SV%, nearly single-handedly carrying the team to the 2nd round. As such, expectations are high for the 23-year-old.

Oettinger went 1-1-0 with a 1.96 GAA and .919 SV% in 2 regular-season starts against the Predators last season.

Saros allowed just 1 goal on 31 shots at O2 Arena in Prague in the opener against the Sharks.

The Preds starter was hard on the Stars in 2021-22, going 3-1-0 with a 1.97 GAA and .924 SV% across 4 starts.

Stars at Predators picks and predictions

Prediction

Predators 3, Stars 2

Moneyline

The PREDATORS (-135) look to remain perfect on the early season, and they try to grab their 1st victory on North American soil after looking impressive in 2 games against the Sharks overseas.

The Stars (+110) have the goaltending, but there are some concerns in the back end after losing John Klingberg to free agency. Dallas also has a coaching change, as Rick Bowness stepped away from the team, only to take the Winnipeg Jets job during the offseason. Peter DeBoer makes his team debut here, and it won’t be a successful one.

Puck line/Against the spread

Stars +1.5 (-230) will cost you over 2 times your potential return, and that’s just not a good bet, especially against an offensively-challenged team on the road against a Predators -1.5 (+170) side with a strong backstop.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (-105) is a strong play whenever Saros is in between the pipes. Really, it’s a good play anytime these teams face each other, too.

The Under is 16-5-5 in the last 26 meetings in the Music City, and the Under already cashed in the first start by Saros overseas.

Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Thursday’s Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Stars (28-20-2) travel to meet the Nashville Predators (29-18-4) at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Stars vs. Predators odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Stars picked up a 3-2 comeback victory against the Winnipeg Jets in overtime Wednesday. Dallas has picked up three wins in the past four games overall, and the Under has cashed in each of the past five outings.

The Predators scored an impressive 6-4 road win at Florida Tuesday, and they head into this one with plenty of rest. The victory also snapped a four-game losing skid, which includes the most recent meeting in Dallas. The Preds lost that previous meeting, 4-3, as the Over cashed.

Stars at Predators odds, spread and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Stars +122 (bet $100 to win $122) | Predators -150 (bet $150 to win $100)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Stars +1.5 (-210) | Predators -1.5 (+160)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Stars at Predators projected goalies

Braden Holtby (9-10-1, 2.78 GAA, .912 SV%) vs. Juuse Saros (24-15-3, 2.49 GAA, .923 SV%, 2 SO)

Holtby last appeared Tuesday against the visiting Colorado Avalanche, allowing three goals on 29 shots in the 4-0 loss. In his past two appearances the Stars have provided zero goals of offensive support.

Saros has struggled mightily in the month of February, losing all four of his starts since emerging from the All-Star break. Saros is 1-4-0 with 3.49 GAA and .892 SV% in five starts in February, including a loss Feb. 9 in Dallas.

Stars at Predators odds, lines, picks and predictions

Prediction

Predators 3, Stars 1

Money line

The PREDATORS (-150) are worth playing in Thursday’s battle in the Music City. The Stars (+122) are facing a quick turnaround after going into overtime Wednesday, and they’re likely to have some heavy legs in front of their backup goaltender. That’s never a good combination.

Against the spread

The PREDATORS -1.5 (+160) are worth a small-unit play. First off, again, the Stars +1.5 (-210) are facing a quick turnaround. Second, while Nashville hasn’t played very well lately, it is coming off a confidence-building win in Florida against one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. And the Stars haven’t provided Holtby with a lot of offensive support lately. It’s a perfect recipe for a win by at least two goals for the home side.

Over/Under

The UNDER 5.5 (-110) has hit in five straight for the Stars, as Dallas is averaging just 1.8 goals per game across the span. It has allowed a total of six goals in the past four outings, too. Look for another defensive battle in the Music City playing on no rest.

Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Tuesday’s Dallas Stars at Nashville Predators NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The red-hot Nashville Predators (18-17-1) host the Dallas Stars (11-12-9) Tuesday while hoping to continue their ascent up the Central Division standings. Puck drop at Bridgestone Arena will be at 8 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Stars-Predators odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Predators have won five straight games and seven of their last eight contests to vault into fourth place in the Central. They’ve outscored the competition 19-7 during the win streak.

The Stars are stuck in a rut that has seen them go 5-8-5 since Feb. 25, despite posting a quality 55.1 Corsi For percentage over that time. They begin a six-game road trip Tuesday off of back-to-back home-ice losses to the Florida Panthers over the weekend.

Dallas leads the season series 2-0-2 but Nashville won each of the last two meetings by a 4-3 score in a shootout.

  • Money line: Stars -115 (bet $115 to win $100) | Predators +100 (bet $100 to win $100)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Stars -1.5 (+230) | Predators +1.5 (-300)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +110 | U: -130)

Stars at Predators: Projected starting goalies

Anton Khudobin (6-9-3, .907 SV%, 2.53 GAA) vs. Juuse Saros (9-6-0, .923 SV%, 2.38 GAA)

Khudobin enters on a personal three-game losing skid, although two of those went beyond 60 minutes. He allowed 4 goals on 28 shots in an overtime loss to the Panthers Saturday. His last win was a 21-save shutout of the Detroit Red Wings March 20.

Saros has won three straight games and is 4-1-0 with a .976 SV% and a total of just four goals allowed in five games since returning from injury March 18. His only loss in that time was against the Panthers March 20, when he stopped all but one of 48 shots in a 2-0 Preds loss.

Stars at Predators: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Predators 3, Stars 2

Money line (ML)

The PREDATORS (+100) are a great value as even-money home underdogs.

Backed by the inspiring play of Saros in net, Nashville has taken advantage of a favorable scheduling stretch to get back into the thick of the playoff picture. Dallas remains without C Tyler Seguin (hip) and recently lost RW Alexander Radulov (lower body) to injury once again.

The Preds are 3-for-9 on the power play and 13-for-14 on the penalty kill during their win streak.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

PASS on the puck line since we’re on the Predators +1.5 (-300) to win outright and there’s too much risk in the alternate line of Preds -1.5 (+260).

Nashville’s two wins over Dallas this season were both via the skills competition and could have gone either way.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-130) is the top play, even though we need to pay into the vig.

Nashville has played to the Under in six of its last eight games, largely due to the brick-wall act of Saros. The Dallas offense was held to a single goal in two of its last three losses.
