Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey wins NFC Special Teams Player of the Week again

From @ToddBrock24f7: Aubrey connected on 4 field goals of 45+ yards Sunday night and became the first player ever to kick two of 59 yards or more in one game.

Brandon Aubrey has done it again.

Actually, he’s done it 30 times in a row now. But for the four long-distance field goals he put through the uprights in Sunday in the Cowboys’ impressive 33-13 win over Philadelphia, the rookie kicker has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Week 14 saw Aubrey become the first player in league history to boot two field goals of 59 yards or beyond in the same game with a 60-yarder in the first quarter and a 59-yarder in the third. He followed those bombs with two relatively shorter ones- from only 45 and 50- in addition to three PATs on the night.

Aubrey has now made all 30 of his field goal tries this season, extending the record he himself set in Week 8 for most consecutive field goals to start an NFL career. He won the NFC’s weekly award for that performance as well.

The 28-year-old former soccer star is proving himself to be not only exceptionally accurate but also extraordinary from long distances; he now already eight field goals of 50 or more yards in just 13 games as a pro.

After Sunday’s win, in which he buried even his 60-yard field goal into the net with more than enough leg, he was asked if he could connect from, say, 70 yards.

“I can, absolutely,” he said.

At this point in Aubrey’s unlikely but award-winning season, that unthinkable number doesn’t seem the least bit outrageous.

Ferguson’s rumble, Gilmore’s dip into fountain of youth define Cowboys’ win

From @ToddBrock24f7: Stephon Gilmore personally showed the Eagles he still has it, and Jake Ferguson’s key catch-and-run helped seal Week 14’s 33-13 victory.

It takes a village, as the saying goes. In the NFL, though, it takes a team, and the Cowboys demonstrated that Sunday night. While it’s always satisfying to see the marquee superstars shine brightly on the primetime stage, Week 14’s massive divisional win over Philadelphia wasn’t the result of Dak Prescott or CeeDee Lamb or Micah Parsons putting the entire roster on his back. No, this most recent victory came as the result of true complementary football and multiple players in all three phases making a single play here or there (or two plays, in one veteran’s case) when it mattered most.

The entire 33-13 dismantling of the Eagles is worth a re-watch, even if only for pure enjoyment purposes, but take a moment to stop and zero in on these four plays that proved especially momentous. Each represents the kind of effort that will be needed- from every player wearing the star- to finish the regular season strong and take the Cowboys on a deep playoff run.

What we learned in Cowboys 33-13 win over Eagles includes Dan Quinn’s big-game redemption

The Cowboys learned the defense is getting better, Ferguson is for real and Prescott doesn’t always need to be super man in Week 14

It was a game approached with eager anticipation. From the moment the final whistle blew in their 28-23 loss in Philadelphia five weeks ago, the Cowboys had the rematch circled on the calendar. Dallas felt they were the better team in their first match-up. A series of bad bounces, questionable calls, and fluke occurrences all seemed to rob them of a representative outcome that day. Week 14 was their chance to prove it.

And prove it the Cowboys did. Dallas scored on their first drive and never looked back. If it wasn’t for a Dak Prescott sack-fumble returned for touchdown in the third quarter, the game never felt close. They claimed a win probability of 75% in the first quarter and never let it drop below.

With the win, Dallas proved they didn’t just beat up bad teams, but showed they beat up really good teams as well. It added legitimacy to their efforts this season and put the NFL on notice that they are not the same team who stumbled through the dark earlier in the year.

Good, Bad, Ugly: Cowboys’ fast start, timely takeaways sullied by drops, gaffes

From @ToddBrock24f7: Even in a 20-point win over the East leader, there’s room to improve. We look at a dropped TD, a costly fumble, and a special-teams snafu.

It’s hard to find too much to complain about in a 20-point smackdown over your most hated rival on primetime TV to move into a first-place tie atop the division standings. Week 14’s 33-13 win over Philadelphia was perhaps the best and most complete game against a top-tier opponent the Cowboys have played in several seasons.

But as with any performance in the NFL, there are things that can be improved upon as the Cowboys continue their churn into toughest part of their regular-season schedule. While Dak Prescott played another good game that likely keeps him in the MVP conversation and the defense kept the star-studded Eagles offense out of the end zone entirely, Dallas coaches will still have plenty of learning opportunities for the Cowboys players in this week’s film study.

From the moments where focus was lost to the ever-present specter of injury, and then- of course- just a few of the things that went exceptionally well, here’s our weekly look at the good, the bad, and the ugly from this weekend’s game.

Report: Cowboys DT Johnathan Hankins suffered ‘mild’ high-ankle sprain in Week 14 win

From @ToddBrock24f7: The veteran run-stuffer returned to the sideline in uniform Sunday night. Early reports he’ll be ready for the playoffs if not sooner.

Johnathan Hankins didn’t show up on the stat sheet in Sunday night’s win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but his early departure was definitely noticed.

The veteran defensive tackle sustained an ankle injury just a few snaps into the third quarter and was eventually carted to the locker room. He did not return to the contest. And while the team fared just fine in the decisive 33-13 victory, the 320-pounder’s prognosis quickly became a source of concern for Cowboys fans as the team looks ahead to important late-season matchups against three of the league’s top-10 rushing teams.

Reports indicate that Hankins suffered a high-ankle sprain, but it’s believed to be on the mild side. He is expected to get an MRI to further evaluate the injury.

That’s all positive news that suggests Hankins won’t miss extended time. NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that the 2013 second-round draft pick “should be back for the playoffs, if not sooner.”

That would be welcome news indeed for the Dallas defense. The team faces Buffalo, Miami, and Detroit over the next 20 days; those teams currently rank eighth, first, and fourth respectively in average yards per carry. In 13 games this season- all with Hankins- the Cowboys have not allowed a 100-yard rusher; only three opposing players have topped 60 yards on the ground.

The 31-year-old appeared to have been rolled up on from behind on a third-down run play shortly after the second-half kickoff. Rookie Mazi Smith replaced Hankins for the remainder of the game.

Hankins did return to the Cowboys sideline Sunday night under his own power and still in uniform. After the game, he was seen leaving the locker room without a crutches, a walking boot, or even a pronounced limp.

Twitter reacts to Cowboys’ dismantling of Eagles facade in Week 14

A quick look at social media reactions after Dallas came through with a dominating performance against the team with the NFL’s best record.

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the contest with the NFL’s best record. Sitting at 10-2 and with a Week 9 victory in hand, the Eagles had a chance to lock in a playoff berth and all but secure the NFC East title with four weeks remaining. Instead, they now have a ton of questions after the Dallas Cowboys handed them their second straight blowout loss, 33-13.

The Cowboys dominated in all three phases over their division rivals, and as such the fanbase enjoyed being able to celebrate a dominant victory that evened both teams records at 10-3 on the season. Here’s a look at a handful of social media reactions to the win.

Cry Eagles, Cry: Best pics from Cowboys’ Week 14 clipping of Philly’s wings

A look at the best photo captures from Dallas’ 15th consecutive win at AT&T Stadium as the final stretch of the season commences. | From @KDDrummondNFL

The Dallas Cowboys secured their fifth straight victory on Sunday night, taking down the Philadelphia Eagles by the final score of 33-13. It was a hard-fought and well-deserved win that moved the teams into a tie atop the division with 10-3 records for each with four games remaining.

The Cowboys controlled the game from the start, evening the season series between the two on the backs of Dak Prescott, Brandon Aubrey and an impressive defensive effort that kept the Eagles offense out of the end zone. Here are all of the fantastic captures from the action as the Cowboys celebrate their 15th consecutive win at AT&T Stadium.

Cowboys rise to occassion, subjugate Eagles in dominant 33-13 win

The Cowboys improve to 10-3 on the season with a 20-point victory over their division rival.

The Cowboys have received a reputation over the last few years that has been undeserved. Because of a few failures, they’ve been labeled with the narrative of never being able to win a big game. Of course, that’s nonsense. The Cowboys haven’t advanced to a Championship Game or Super Bowl, but they’ve won plenty of regular season big games and early rounders in the playoffs.

So far this year, they’ve been 0fer against the best competition, which only enhanced the narrative. But on Sunday night, they laid that to rest. Not only did they succeed in taking down a top opponent, at several points in the game, Dallas made the big plays necessary to keep a comfortable advantage and emerge 30-13 victors in Week 14.

Brandon Aubrey nailed three long-distance kicks, from 60, 59 and 50 yards respectfully. Near the end of the third quarter, with the Eagles driving and down 14, they made a crucial fourth down stop. In the red zone, the offense went three for three in scoring touchdowns, increasing their incredible run since the Giants game by making 18 of their last 24 conversion. The Dan Quinn defense saw the Eagles make it into Dallas territory five times. All they did was force two field goal attempts and strip the ball three times.

In the first meeting between the teams in Week 9, Philly fumbled three times but recovered all three in a 28-23 victory. This time, Dallas pounced on all three of them to maintain a big margin throughout the contest.

Dallas’ defense didn’t allow the opposition to score a touchdown for the third time this season. The offense continues to hum and the Cowboys improve to 10-3 on the season.

Cowboys DT Johnathan Hankins carted to locker room with right leg injury

The Dallas Cowboys have done no wrong so far with their play on the field, but there is a bit of a cause for concern as the second half gets underway. On the Philadelphia Eagles opening drive of the third quarter, defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins was injured.

Following a run by De’Andre Switft, Hankins remained on the ground and needed to be attended to by the team’s medical staff. When Dallas was on offense following a second forced fumble and recovery, Hankins was on a cart, with his right shoe off, heading to the locker room for further evaluation.

Hopefully the injury isn’t too severe and Hankins is able to still help Dallas in the very near future. The team’s lone successful run-stuffing DT, Hankins is integral to the team’s hopes against the gauntlet of opponents on their remaining schedule and for the rest of this game.

LOOK: Cowboys continue 1st-half domination with Prescott-Gallup TD

The Cowboys have opened up a commanding lead at the half of their Week 14 showdown.

The Dallas Cowboys had a point to prove entering their Week 14 showdown. Through the first half, they’ve made that point with exclamations. The Cowboys offense scored on all four of their first-half possessions, including a 60-yard field goal by rookie kicker Brandon Aubrey and bookended by two Dak Prescott passing touchdowns.

After stopping the Eagles’ last drive of the first half and forcing them into a made field goal, the Cowboys got the ball back with under two minutes remaining. That proved to be more than enough time for Dak Prescott and company as they marched down the field for their third 75-yard touchdown drive of the game.

The big play was a Prescott deep seam pass to WR Brandin Cooks down to the one-yard line, which they followed up with a one-yard toss to Michael Gallup.

The score prevented the Eagles from having the final points of the half and getting the ball back to start the third quarter. Dallas leads 24-6 with 30 minutes left to go.
