Cowboys News: Offensive weaponry set to get a boost in 2022 draft

Receiving playmakers the Cowboys can select at No. 24, a special teams signing and the importance of Will McClay for Dallas’ success. | From @CDBurnett7

With the 2022 NFL draft now less than three weeks away, it seems as if the offense is going to be the focal point for the Dallas Cowboys. While the defense has kept most of its core intact, there’s glaring holes on the offensive end.

Ohio State’s Chris Olave and Arkansas’ Treylon Burks are apparent replacement prospects for departed wideout Amari Cooper, but will Dallas have the chance to draft them? On top of the wide receiver hole, Blake Jarwin’s departure opens a hole for the second tight end and a lack of a long-term agreement with Dalton Schultz means the position is a priority.

In free agency, the Cowboys have stayed quiet but signed a special teams piece to bolster the impressive unit from 2021. While the draft approaches as the biggest moment of the offseason for Dallas it begs the question: is Will McClay the last hope for the Cowboys after free agency blunders?

Cowboys News: Parsons staying mobile, Jerry Jones lawsuit drama

The latest on the Jerry Jones paternity lawsuit, current mock drafts for Dallas at No. 24 and the pressure rising for young stars in Dallas. | From @CDBurnett7

The paternity lawsuit involving team owner Jerry Jones continues and accusations on money paid and demanded continue to ramp up. While Jones and his lawyers deal in the court, Dallas is eyeing the 2022 NFL draft.

Purdue edge rusher George Karlaftis is a hot name for the Cowboys while safety is an intriguing option for a team that has Jayron Kearse and Malik Hooker on roster. While those two are talented, they have hybrid roles in Dan Quinn’s defense so a free safety specialist could be a perfect add.

There’s a very different receiver group scheduled for 2022 with James Washington coming to town and Amari Cooper gone. How will CeeDee Lamb respond to the pressure that awaits him as the No. 1 receiver spot in his third year?

On the other side of the ball, linebacker Micah Parsons isn’t getting locked down to one position. Head coach Mike McCarthy cleared the air, saying his star rookie will continue to move around the field in Quinn’s defense regardless of the concerns at defensive end.

Cowboys News: No Wagner? Prescott speaks on bad shoulder, optimism for 2022

Dak Prescott spoke about his offseason, the All-Pro punter is back, the outlook on big free agents up in the air for Dallas and more. | From @CDBurnett7

The cap space the Dallas Cowboys have crafted for themselves opens the window for some big moves. Will they make them? A break down of the top remaining free agents and who may fit into the Dallas way of doing things. As for their own free agents, All-Pro punter Bryan Anger is coming back to the Cowboys on a three-year deal. The details of linebacker Leighton Vander-Esch and defensive end Dorance Armstrong’s contracts are out, with the latter making a big pay jump.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was vocal about many things this week: his left shoulder surgery, the emotions of free agency and how fans shouldn’t jump ship so early as he believes Dallas isn’t done making big moves yet. Reuniting with Dan Quinn, Dante Fowler noted his experience with the Super Bowl champion coach and how he knows Fowler as a player possibly better than anyone else.

Cowboys News: 4 free agency signings, but is Dallas missing the NFC window?

The Cowboys making four signings on Friday, opportunities in a regressing NFC and how Julio Jones could fit on a cheap deal in Dallas. | From @CDBurnett7

The Cowboys are finally on the board with outside free agents. Dallas signed receiver James Washington and reunited defensive end Dante Fowler with Dan Quinn to help rebuild the positions without depth from the 2021 roster.

Could the Cowboys look to sign another receiver in Julio Jones? The generational talent has been limited by injuries but a cost-efficient deal could intrigue Dallas for this coming season.

While hybrid safety Jayron Kearse’s status in Dallas is up in the air, the Cowboys re-signed linebackers Leighton Vander-Esch and Luke Gifford to return depth to the position with Quinn used to making fluid substitutions.

Randy Gregory signing with Denver is another case of the Broncos stealing a player from Dallas. The last couple times have resulted in triumph for the Cowboys, will this one end in the same result?

Cowboys News: Defensive end market drying up as new league year starts

The Cowboys are staying out of the sweepstakes, Lawrence opened up about his contract discussions and why Dallas needs to flip the script fast. | From @CDBurnett7

Day 3 of 2022 free agency discussions turned out to be a microcosm of Joneses tenure at the helm of the Dallas Cowboys . Defensive end Von Miller showed real interest in returning home to Texas but it turns out quarterback Dak Prescott gave a better offer than the team themselves. Now, Miller is headed to Buffalo.

Za’Darius Smith was another name that went off the board for a potential replacement after the Randy Gregory nightmare. Right in the center of it all is defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, whose reworked contract opened the door for a reload and looked bleak early in discussion according to the Boise State product.

The Cowboys spent the first day of players being able to sign their deals with no new news to speak of. Here are the rest of the News and Notes.

Cowboys Weekend News: Trading Cooper? Micah the wrestler, Jerry the sidestepper

Parsons to WrestleMania, a trade-filled mock draft and free agency decisions to come for the Cowboys receiving weapons in Saturday’s news. | From @CDBurnett7

Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz is an interesting conversation for free agency. Teams like the Chargers are perfect fits but Dallas could bite the bullet and use the franchise tag to keep him in town. Next to the breakout tight end, things seem to be changing at the wide receiver position. The Cowboys could look to sign a receiver like Jamison Crowder or go through the draft. Imagine Dallas trading Amari Cooper or another star ahead of the 2022 draft.

Linebacker Micah Parsons is a star on the field but he credits pregame hype from a historic boxer and now will appear at WrestleMania after an invite from Randy Orton. The legend continues to grow for the Cowboys star.

Cowboys News: Senior Bowl watch list, coaching addition, former players get 2nd chance

The looming wide receiver situation, Cowboys turned USFL players and offseason changes necessary for Dallas to break the recent trend. All in the latest news roundup from @CDBurnett7

Just a few days away from the 2022 NFL scouting combine, what big names should Cowboys fans be eyeing? The list includes a pair of national champions who could jumpstart the defense.

Beyond the draft, Dallas needs to make some changes to improve in the offseason and break the trend of boring free agency pickups from the Joneses. Opening up the checkbook like the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams could lead to another ring for Jerry Jones.

Former Cowboys linebacker Joe Bowden has joined the staff and he will work with a young group that includes Micah Parsons, who lobbied for offensive snaps during the 2021 season, could he see any in 2022?

With the USFL’s draft concluded, several former Dallas players got a second chance in pro football and it could be a gateway back to the NFL, maybe even the Cowboys. Here’s a look at the latest news and notes.

Cowboys News: Change of scenery for Connor Williams? Nakobe Dean at 24?

Potential picks for the Cowboys, a decision at tight end and linebacker, and who Dallas could keep in town with the franchise tag in 2022. | From @Cdburnett7 and @ToddBrock24f7

Looking toward the draft, guru Daniel Jeremiah has the Cowboys taking Georgia linebacker Nakobe Dean to create a strong and blistering-fast tandem with Micah Parsons. But there are other routes taken in other mocks; one has Dallas going offensive line with a popular Boston College prospect.

Free agency is almost upon us. Could Jayron Kearse return after a breakout season to be reunited with Dan Quinn? Connor Williams could hit the market, too; one outlet says the offensive lineman might just find greener grass somewhere other than Dallas. Other names to watch are linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and tight end Dalton Schultz. Could Schultz get the franchise tag instead? And what about reworking some pricey contracts to help pay some of those free agents? Another outlet did some creative math and suddenly found $70 million of new cap space.

A couple Cowboys alums are in the news, too. A franchise legend is on the verge of switching to a brand-new team in primetime, and a onetime rising-star coach is getting his next big break in the Big Easy.

This is Wednesday’s Cowboys News and Notes.

Cowboys News: Dalrymple scandal has some calling for change of ownership

A voyeurism scandal with a former Cowboys executive and Jerry Jones is now in the spotlight while Dallas has some big FA decisions to make. | From @CDBurnett7

While the New York Giants and Washington Football Team, now Commanders, were dealing with organizational scandals over the last month or more, the Cowboys had managed to stay above the ugly news fray. That all changed in a hurry on Wednesday.

Former Dallas executive Rich Dalrymple has been accused of voyeurism with the Cowboys cheerleaders and Charlotte Jones Anderson, with reports from ESPN that Jerry Jones paid off the cheerleaders with a multimillion dollar settlement to stay quiet on the situation.

In regards to football, there are key free agents like defensive end Randy Gregory for Dallas to keep in town while the likes of defensive end Demarcus Lawrence and wide receiver Amari Cooper’s future could be in doubt as cap issues stare down the Cowboys if they don’t restructure contracts. All this and more in the latest news and notes.

Cowboys News: Parsons played all of 2021 while injured, SB participants show love for Dallas players

Praise from Super Bowl LVI competitors, Parsons’ playing through injury, draft stock checks and cap decisions in the news for the Cowboys. | From @CDBurnett7

If the incredible rookie campaign from linebacker Micah Parsons wasn’t enough to get excited about the future, what if performed that well, after a year away from the game, and was never at 100%?  Beware. The Dallas Cowboys could select another linebacker in the first round to create a tandem at the position while Tyler Browning also breaks down a Day 2 prospect for an offensive line desperate for change.

With big decisions coming up in free agency and with limited cap space, how will Dallas handle the contracts of defensive end Demarcus Lawrence and wide receiver Amari Cooper, extensions or cap casualties? Ahead of Super Bowl LVI, current and former Cowboys stars received high praise from Ja’Marr Chase and Jalen Ramsey, who will likely line up across one another on Sunday with the Lombardi Trophy on the line.

Here’s a look at the news and notes.
