Oklahoma WR D.J. Graham to enter the transfer portal

According to his social media account, wide receiver DJ Graham is entering the transfer portal.

The Oklahoma Sooners 2023 regular season closed with a win over TCU. And with Oklahoma State’s win over BYU, the Sooners are now focused on their bowl destination and closing out their 2024 recruiting class.

As the Sooners now deal with a coaching change as offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby is expected to be named the next head coach at Mississippi State, transfer portal season has begun.

The Sooners now have two players looking for opportunities elsewhere. After Marcus Hicks announced his decision to enter the portal, cornerback turned wide receiver D.J. Graham is entering the transfer portal.

In a post shared on social media, Graham said, “It has been an honor to be part of this awesome and storied football program for the past three years at the University of Oklahoma. I thank God for the opportunity I was afforded to be a Sooner; however, I have arrived at a crossroad in my career, and with much prayer and consultation with my parents, and wise counsel, I will be entering the NCAA transfer portal with two years of eligibility remaining.”

Graham went on to thank former coaches Lincoln Riley, Cale Gundy, and Kerry Cook, in addition to current wide receivers coach Emmitt Jones.

Graham, a two-way star coming out of Keller Central in North Texas, originally played cornerback for the Oklahoma Sooners but made the switch last offseason to wide receiver. He performed well in the spring game but suffered an injury that kept him out of much of the 2023 season.

Graham will be forever remembered for his incredible interception against Nebraska in the 2021 renewal of the old Big 8 rivalry.

The Sooners found a lot of wide receiver depth this season with the emergence of Andrel Anthony, Nic Anderson, and Jayden Gibson. With those three coming back, the possibility of a Jalil Farooq return, players like Brenen Thompson and Jaquaize Pettaway, and a star-studded wide receiver class in 2024, Graham was likely going to be squeezed out of the wide receiver rotation next season.

Graham has great ball skills that will allow him an opportunity to make an impact at his next stop.

No. 16 Oklahoma Sooners vs Tulsa Golden Hurricane: How to Watch, key players, weather forecast for gameday

The Sooners take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane and here is how you can watch the game, the key players to watch and the weather forecast.

Fresh off an up-and-down game last week against the SMU Mustangs, the Oklahoma Sooners are set to take on another [autotag]American Athletic Conference[/autotag] member, the [autotag]Tulsa Golden Hurricane[/autotag].

Tulsa, led by former Oklahoma offensive coordinator [autotag]Kevin Wilson[/autotag] brings an offense that hopes to give the Sooners defense fits this week. Tulsa has the No. 56 ranked offense in the nation.

While most people remember Wilson for his impressive passing attack led by [autotag]Sam Bradford[/autotag] when he was in Norman, his Tulsa team is different this year. While they don’t excel in the passing game, they do in the running game, ranking No. 26th in the country.

But if you are wondering how you can watch the game, what key players to look for, or what the weather will be like, we’ve got you covered.

247Sports includes trio of Sooners among top 100 impact freshmen

247Sports believes these freshmen defenders are primed to make an impact in 2023 for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma’s 2023 recruiting class could be legendary for Brent Venables’ tenure as Oklahoma’s head coach. In many ways, that class could lay the foundation for what the Sooners will be and look like with Venables at the helm.

It’s the best Oklahoma class on paper in years. Defensively, it’s undoubtedly the best defensive class the Sooners have had in quite some time. The 2024 class could top it defensively, but we won’t count those chickens before they hatch.

What we can count on, though, is that 247Sports agrees and believes that Oklahoma has some talented freshmen that can be playmakers from the start.  247 tabbed 100 freshmen they believe will be impact players in 2023. Three Sooners were included on the list, and each of them was on the defensive side of the ball. The names included safety Peyton Bowen, EDGE Adepoju Adebawore, and cornerback Jasiah Wagoner.

Bowen, No. 57 overall and the No. 3 safety in their final rankings has already made an impression in his first spring in Norman. He had one of the craziest recruitments in recent memory, but once he landed on campus, he made plays and culminated his first spring with an interception of starting QB Dillon Gabriel in the spring game. Brent Venables couldn’t speak highly enough of Bowen in the early part of his tenure.

You could argue safety is one of Oklahoma’s deepest positions with both Billy Bowman and Key Lawrence back, along with Texas Tech transfer Reggie Pearson. But good luck keeping Bowen off the field. Fans got a glimpse of his talents in the spring game when he intercepted Dillon Gabriel on a deep shot. Bowen is going to be in the two deep at safety and can also play some nickel. He’ll see plenty of reps this year, helping a Sooners pass defense that needs to take a major step. – Chris Hummer, 247Sports

Hummer believes Oklahoma’s safety group is better than last year’s and reasonably deep, but Bowen is known as a deep safety playmaker. Bowen’s athleticism and processing speed will make it hard for the coaching staff to keep him off the field. He’s gotten reps at both safety positions, nickel, and Cheetah throughout spring practice.

Joining him in the secondary is cornerback Jasiah Wagoner. Wagoner, a native of Washington, created a lot of spring buzz with his play inside and outside. He’s feisty, and while he’s only 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds but plays like he’s 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds. Oklahoma is in the business of finding steady play at cornerback opposite senior leader Woodi Washington. Wagoner may be someone that can provide that. Wagoner was the No. 31 CB in his class.

Speaking of players who could help a shaky pass defense, Wagoner is another to watch after a strong spring practice run. The Spanaway (Wash.) Lake product earned his share of first-team reps, and he’s well positioned to play important snaps for OU after Jaden Davis transferred and D.J. Graham switched to the offensive side of the ball. The 5-foot-11, 171-pound Wagoner has also drawn high praise from the Sooners staff publicly. – Hummer, 247Sports

And last but certainly not least, EDGE Adepoju Adebawore is the third Sooner freshman on the list. Adebawore looks physically ready to make an impact, but he’s just scratching the surface of what he can be. He has an NFL pedigree. His older brother was selected in the 2023 NFL draft after tearing up the NFL scouting combine with his athletic testing.

Adebawore is a player who could push for significant pass-rushing snaps throughout the season due to his insane athletic profile. Oklahoma’s pass rush was a huge reason their defense was terrible last season. Middle-of-the-road passing teams were able to do what they wanted against the Sooners’ defense. Adebawore could help with that from the outset. As the No. 9 overall player and No. 2 EDGE in the 2023 class, big things are expected from Adebawore.

One of the true athletic freaks from the 2023 class, Adebawore pairs his 6-foot-5, 225-pound frame with an 85-inch wingspan, 10-inch hands and a verified 4.8 seconds in the 40-yard dash — and 34 inches in the vertical jump. He’s an athletic marvel and someone who will only get freakier as he adds weight. As it is, Adebawore is fast and twitchy enough to make an immediate impact. Oklahoma needs him to do so, too. The Sooners struggled to generate pressure without blitzing last year (a usual staple of Brent Venables’ defenses), and Adebawore and a few transfers should help address that issue. – Hummer, 247Sports

Oklahoma’s season hinges on the defense’s ability to improve. If that happens, it is hard to imagine a scenario where Oklahoma doesn’t at least win nine games. Bowen, Wagoner, and Adebawore have a chance to make an impact this season and be cornerstones to Oklahoma’s defensive resurgence.

10 Sooners who stood out in the Oklahoma Red-White Game

There were quite a few strong performances in the Oklahoma Sooners’ annual Red-White game. Here are 10 players who stood out.

The 2022 season didn’t temper the enthusiasm of a fan base that hadn’t seen a losing season since the Clinton administration. 54,509 people showed up to support the Oklahoma Sooners in the spring game. And they were treated to quite the show.

The annual Red-White game provided an opportunity to get a sneak preview into what the Oklahoma Sooners could be in the 2023 season. Though it’s hard to extrapolate performances to the regular season, there were players that stood out.

Here are ten that flashed on Saturday in the spring game.

‘Look what the ‘Football god’ placed in my room’: Emmett Jones excited about D.J. Graham’s potential

Oklahoma Sooners wide receiver coach expresses excitement on social media about D.J. Graham.

Oklahoma Sooners’ wide receivers coach has only been on the job a couple of months, but he’s already made a strong impression in Norman and on the recruiting trail.

Brent Venables spoke very highly of Jones when he met with the media to introduce the Sooners’ new arrivals a few weeks ago. And Jones moved the needle for the Sooners in the recruitment of several 2024 wide receivers, namely [autotag]Bryant Wesco[/autotag] out of Midlothian.

As Jones gets acclimated with the University of Oklahoma, he’s get a handle on what he has in the wide receiver group. Needless to say, D.J. Graham is someone he’s excited about.

On Twitter, Jones said, “HS coaches always walk the halls or hang out in the gym to find potential players. Look what the ‘Football God’ placed in my room!!!” In the highlight Jones shared the incredible one-handed interception, Graham made against the Nebraska Cornhuskers back in 2021.

After playing cornerback for the Oklahoma Sooners the first couple of seasons in Norman, Graham is making the switch back to wide receiver. At Keller Central, north of Fort Worth, Texas, Graham was a standout wide receiver in addition to turning heads at cornerback.

In four seasons on varsity, Graham caught 152 passes for 2,090, and 18 touchdowns.

He certainly has the hands and the athleticism to make plays in the passing game. Given the whole left by [autotag]Marvin Mims[/autotag], there’s an opportunity for Graham to find a role after making the move to WR during the fall.

Cornerback Joshua Eaton enters the transfer portal

Oklahoma Sooners cornerback Joshua Eaton will enters the transfer portal.

The number of Oklahoma transfers has grown to three. Following Theo Wease and Jordan Mukes, cornerback Joshua Eaton will enter the transfer portal, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports.

Eaton, a member of the 2020 recruiting class, played in 10 games over three seasons with the Oklahoma Sooners, recording six total tackles. In 2022, he played just 20 defensive snaps, all in the UTEP game, before being relegated to special teams work in his other three appearances against Kent State, Iowa State, and Baylor.

The former four-star player ended up buried on the depth chart and was eighth among cornerbacks in snaps played this season. Eaton finished behind Woodi Washington, C.J. Coldon, Jaden Davis, D.J. Graham, Gentry Williams, Kani Walker, and Kendall Dennis in snaps played at the position.

Even with D.J. Graham switching positions and the possibility that Woodi Washington could go to the NFL, it’s unlikely there was a clear path to playing time for the Houston native. Eaton was the No. 27 cornerback in the 2020 recruiting class.

5 Sooners to watch on offense against Baylor

Here are five players to watch on offense as the Oklahoma Sooners take on the Baylor Bears. From @bendackiw

We’re coming down the home stretch, ladies and gentlemen. Championship November is upon us, and the Oklahoma Sooners are not competing for one.

The Sooners have mostly recovered from their nasty three-game losing streak and are now one win away from securing bowl eligibility. Their next opponent is the Baylor Bears.

We’ve already talked about OU’s last trip to Waco, so let’s talk about five players on Jeff Lebby’s offense we need to keep an eye out for on Saturday.

‘Officially a receiver’: Oklahoma’s D.J. Graham confirms position switch via social media

Oklahoma Sooners’ D.J. Graham confirms via social media that he’ll be moving to wide receiver, the position he starred at for Keller Central.

What has been rumored in the last few days appears to be confirmed now as cornerback D.J. Graham is moving back to wide receiver, the position he starred at during high school.

As a high school player for Keller Central, Graham collected more than 2,000 yards receiving and 17 touchdowns. He was considered a top 70 player in the state of Texas and was the No. 66 wide receiver in the country according to ESPN back in the 2020 recruiting class.

Graham was a top 20 athlete in the country and held offers from Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, and Baylor.

It’s been an up-and-down career for Graham at cornerback, but his speed and ball skills will allow him to make a smooth transition to a deep wide receiver group.

He earned back-to-back first-team all-district selections in 2017 and 2018 and was the District 3-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Graham is getting a fresh opportunity to reset his college career at the position that he played so well during his high school career. And if the interception he made against the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2021 is any indication, perhaps some highlights are on the way.

Social Buzz: Sooner Nation ready for Oklahoma vs. Nebraska

What’s social media saying ahead of the Oklahoma Sooners first road trip of the season to play the Nebraska Cornhuskers?

It’s a game that’s created some legendary moments in the history of college football. The Game of the Century Josh Norman’s blocked field goal in 2000 that gave OU the momentum to go on and win the game during a magical run to the 2000 national championship.

Keith Jackson’s one handed catch in 1986 put the Oklahoma Sooners in position to kick a game-winning field goal to beat the Cornhuskers and win another Big 8 championship.

Just last year, DJ Graham’s one-handed interception and Pat Fields blocked PAT return for two points were great moments in a game celebrating the 50-year anniversary of the Game of the Century.

Though Nebraska comes into this game with a couple of losses, and far from the program that was dominant in the 1980s and 1990s, the atmosphere and the environment of this renewed rivalry will create more incredible moments in one of the storied rivalries in college football.

As we gear up for kickoff, let’s check in on Sooner Nation and see what they have to say ahead of the Sooners first road test of the season.
