D.C. United at Columbus Crew odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Wednesday’s D.C. United at Columbus Crew odds and lines, with MLS picks and predictions.

In one of 12 MLS games Wednesday night, D.C. United (6 wins, 7 losses, 3 draws) travel to take on the Columbus Crew (6-4-6) at Lower.com Field. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

With all the CONCACAF Gold Cup players back, both sides can look to return to their early-season form.

For the Crew, that means the return of F Gyasi Zardes. He scored 4 goals across his final five MLS matches before scoring twice in six Gold Cup appearances.

The Crew need his help as they were destroyed by NYCFC in their last outing. That said, they aren’t the only side that will have a key player return, as M Paul Arriola will be back for United.

Coming off a 0-0 draw with FC Cincinnati despite being shown two red cards, United will have the chance to jump into the Eastern Conference’s top-seven teams with a win or a draw and a CF Montreal loss.

Prediction

Columbus Crew 1, D.C. United 0

Money line (ML)

BET on the COLUMBUS CREW (+125) as the best value on the money line. It’s less of a bet on the Crew and more of a bet on just how awful United has been on the road this season.

United has lost five of nine road matches. On top of that, the Crew have won four of seven in front of their home crowd.

The Crew won two of their last four games and their defense has been the main reason for the success. After a brutal road loss, I expect them to bounce back at home.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the UNDER 2.5 (-170) although the cost is a bit steep.

Neither team ranks in the top 10 in MLS in goals. Even with Arriola and Zardes back, it’s unlikely they put in a full 90 minutes after both getting extensive time with the USMNT.

The Crew hit the Under in five of their last nine matches. United played to the Under in each of their last two matches as they’ve struggled to consistently score. They had just 5 shots on target in their last two games.

The Under is the better play but, at these odds, place only half a unit on it.
