Analyzing Wednesday’s D.C. United at Chicago Fire matchup with betting advice and picks

Breaking down the odds and lines for Wednesday’s D.C. United at Chicago Fire MLS matchup with betting advice and predictions.

In one of many MLS games Wednesday, D.C. United (5 wins, 7 losses, 1 draw) visit the Chicago Fire (3-8-2) at Soldier Field. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the D.C. United vs. Chicago Fire FC odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

The Chicago Fire take the field after losing 5-1 to Nashville SC Saturday. The Fire will look to get back in the win column behind F Ignacio Aliseda and his 3 goals in eight appearances. However, they’ll need to learn to defend, having given up the third-most goals in the Eastern Conference this season.

D.C. United is without USA MF Paul Arriola, who typically plays an important attacking role in their midfield. That burden will be put on F Ola Kamara, who has 5 goals on the season. A win could vault United from ninth place to seventh in the conference and put them in playoff contention.

Prediction

Chicago Fire 2, D.C. United 1

Money line (ML)

BET on the FIRE (+110) because they’ve been respectable at home.

Chicago has all of its wins and draws at home and is just better in front of the home crowd at the intimidating Soldier Field. On top of that, the Fire have played well lately with wins in two of their last three matches.

While United hasn’t necessarily struggled, they have lost two of their last three games. They’re also just 1-5-1 on the road.

Over/Under (O/U)

“LEAN” to the OVER 2.5 (-160) because Chicago is on fire and also has a horrible backline.

The Fire were absolutely embarrassed by Nashville MF Hany Mukhtar last time they took the pitch. However, aside from that, they’ve been a scoring machine over their last four matches in averaging 2.5 goals per game.

United scored at least 1 goal in four of their last five matches, including a 7-goal outburst against Toronto FC July 3. The Toronto defense is the worst in the East, but Chicago isn’t too far behind.

With both teams scoring lately, expect a high-scoring game. Given the cost on the total, I’d only consider putting half a unit on it.

D.C. United at Philadelphia Union odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s D.C. United at Philadelphia Union odds and lines, with MLS betting picks, tips and best bets.

In one of several MLS games Saturday, D.C. United (5 wins, 6 loss, 1 draws) will travel to take on Philadelphia Union (5-5-3) at Subaru Park in Chester, Penn. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the D.C. United vs. Philadelphia Union odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

D.C. United is coming off an absolutely abusive performance against Toronto FC. They defeated them 7-1 and have been rolling as of late winning three of their last five.

They’ll be without F Paul Arriola, though, as he’s both injured and with the USMNT. He’ll be a huge loss as he has two goals and an assist so far this season. Just his presence is impactful for the United.

As for the Union, they’ll be looking to get back to their winning ways. They’ve drawn three in their last five. One of the best teams in the East, they’ll be wanting to find a way to get three at home.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 2:40 p.m. ET.

  • Money line: D.C. United +260 (bet $100 to win $260) | Philadelphia Union -110 (bet $110 to win $100) | Draw +260
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -120 | U: -110)

Prediction

Philadelphia Union 2, D.C. United 0

Money line (ML)

BET on the PHILADELPHIA UNION (-110) because they’re the superior side.

With United down one of their more experienced players, the Union should be able to capitalize. Philadelphia is sitting third in the East, and they’re much better at home winning 3 of 6 performances.

The Union ranks top five in the league in save rate and interceptions. They allow under a goal per game with D Jakob Glesnes leading the charge.

On top of their prowess in defending, the United just aren’t great on the road, losing four of their six matches. Playing a skilled opponent, I don’t see United coming out with even a draw in this one.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET on the UNDER (-110) because, as noted, the United numbers are a bit inflated, and the Union’s strength lies in their backline. The Union has allowed 12 goals in 13 matches. Even United isn’t a big-time scoring team.

Taking away that 7-goal performance and the United have just 10 goals in what would then be 11 games. That’s underwhelming to say the least. Down Arriola, I expect a low-scoring match.

Given how both rank in the bottom three in passing accuracy, there’s no reason to think this will be a heavy-scoring match.

D.C. United at New York City FC odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Sunday’s D.C. United at New York City FC odds and lines, with MLS betting picks, tips and best bets.

In one of four MLS games Sunday, D.C. United (4 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw) visit New York City FC (4-3-2) at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the D.C. United at New York City FC odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

Since the international break, United has a win and a draw, while NYCFC has a win and a loss.

Despite their opponent taking a red card in both games, United was able to score just 1 goal in the two games. They have not conceded a goal since May 23.

As for New York City FC, they pushed the New England Revolution to their limits in a 3-2 loss in its first game back. It then defeated Atlanta United 1-0 Wednesday.

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:35 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: D.C. United +425 (bet $100 to win $425) | New York City FC -175 (bet $175 to win $100) | Draw +290
  • Over/Under: 2.5 (O: -120 | U: -110)

Special MLS betting offer

Bet $1 on any team, WIN $100 (in free bets) if any MLS team scores a goal that day. Promotion available in CO, IA, IN, MI, NJ, PA, TN, VA, WV and Washington D.C.

Prediction

New York City FC 2, D.C. United 0

Money line (ML)

PASS on the money line because betting on New York City FC is just too risky.

NYCFC kicked off the season with a 2-1 road loss to D.C. United. While it has been playing better since there’s no way one should make a -175 bet in a match between two mid-tier teams in the Eastern Conference.

D.C. United kicked off their first four games of the season allowing over 2 goals per game. Their recent results could be just the luck of playing a team down to 10 men for part of the match.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the OVER 2.5 (-120) because New York City FC should be able to push D.C. United into a more aggressive pace.

The first time these teams met there were 3 goals scored. Having put up 5 goals in a game this season, MF Jesus Medina and NYCFC have scored 16 goals through nine matches.

As for D.C. United, they’ve thrived defensively, but as noted, they played an opponent down a man for 77 combined minutes in their last two games.

Those two games were against CF Montreal and Inter Miami, who are both outside of the current playoff picture. The attacking talent of both D.C. United and NYCFC should produce goals, as we saw when NYCFC took on New England.
