Colorado running back Micah Welch expected to return from injury at Kansas

Coach Prime gave an encouraging injury update on Micah Welch

According to Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders, running back Micah Welch will return from injury on Saturday against the Kansas Jayhawks. The true freshman missed the Buffs’ last three games due to a hamstring injury.

“Micah’s gonna play,” Sanders said during his weekly press conference on Tuesday.

Before going down, Welch carried the ball 24 times for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Fellow RBs Isaiah Augustave and Dallan Hayden handled most of the work in Welch’s absence.

Welch gave the Buffs’ running game a jumpstart in early-season matchups, including a 65-yard performance against the Colorado State Rams.

We’ll see how the carries shake out but expect Augustave to continue handling most of the work with Hayden and Welch splitting time behind him. Welch has been a valuable weapon in the red zone, so that could be when No. 29 lines up next to quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“Two-nine (Welch) is back now, so he’s going to be involved in the running game as well this week,” Coach Prime said.

Will Jimmy Horn Jr. play this week? Coach Prime shares latest on injured Colorado WR

Coach Prime offered the latest on Jimmy Horn Jr.’s injury

Senior wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. suffered a lower-body injury early in Colorado football’s Week 11 game at Texas Tech that kept him sidelined for the entire second half.

As things currently stand, Horn is questionable to play in the Buffs’ Week 12 game against the Utah Utes, according to CU head coach Deion Sanders.

A former USF transfer, Horn has been one of Colorado’s biggest offensive weapons this season. His 434 receiving yards rank fourth on the team through nine games.

Colorado and Utah will kick off at 10 a.m. MT on Saturday (Fox).

Jimmy Horn Jr. injury update

Coach Prime shared the latest on Horn during his weekly press conference on Tuesday:

“It’s going to be day-by-day,” Sanders said. “We hope he’s able to work Thursday. If he gives us a good Thursday-Friday, then he’s a go. Jimmy’s the kind of guy that he likes to practice. I don’t think he’s capable right now, but you never how that will change by Thursday (or) by week’s end.”

How long will Jimmy Horn Jr. be out?

Depending on how his health improves throughout the week, Horn could play on Saturday against Utah. If not, he’ll likely return on Nov. 23 at Kansas.

Colorado football wide receiver depth

Even with Omarion Miller out for the season and Horn considered day-to-day, the Buffs still boast great depth at the wide receiver position. Those most likely to see increased playing time in Horn’s potential absence include freshman Drelon Miller and Terrell Timmons Jr.

Jimmy Horn Jr. injury vs. Texas Tech: Latest news on Colorado WR

Jimmy Horn Jr. has suffered a lower-leg injury

Midway through the first half of Colorado football’s Week 11 game at Texas Tech, senior wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. suffered an apparent lower-body injury.

The Buffs’ senior pass-catcher hadn’t recorded any catches and was removed from the game. According to Jake Schwanitz of DNVR, Horn was on the trainer’s table getting his left ankle wrapped.

Horn entered Saturday with 33 catches for 434 receiving yards and one touchdown on the season.

As of this writing, Colorado trails Texas Tech 20-17 midway through the third quarter.

Jimmy Horn Jr. injury update

Just before the second half began, Fox Sports’ Allison Williams reported that Horn suffered a lower-body injury and is questionable to return. Horn’s status hasn’t been updated since.

How long will Jimmy Horn Jr. be out?

It’s currently unclear whether Horn will return against the Red Raiders, according to Williams.

Colorado football wide receiver depth

With Horn out, Colorado will likely rely more on freshman Drelon Miller and possibly Terrell Timmons Jr., who is back in uniform after suffering his own lower-body injury last month.

Is Micah Welch playing today? Injury update for Colorado running back

Colorado running back Micah Welch is dealing with a hamstring injury. Here is the latest update:

Micah Welch has been a positive contributor to Colorado football’s offense so far this season, but the true freshman running back is currently dealing with a hamstring injury.

Through eight games, Welch owns 121 yards on 24 carries (5.0 yards per rush) and three touchdowns. He was first used prominently in Colorado’s Week 3 win over rival Colorado State.

Welch didn’t see any carries against Kansas State in Week 7 and took only one last week at Arizona.

Kickoff between Colorado and Cincinnati is set for 8:15 p.m. MT on ESPN.

Micah Welch injury update

According to Scott Procter of The Coloradoan, Welch isn’t in uniform for the Buffs’ Week 9 game against Cincinnati.

How long will Micah Welch be out?

It’s unclear how long Welch will miss, but the injury doesn’t appear serious. Colorado has a bye next week, meaning Welch could be positioned to return in Week 11 against Texas Tech.

Colorado depth chart at running back

Head coach Deion Sanders told the media earlier this week that he expects Isaiah Augustave to start at running back for the second straight game. Last week, the Arkansas transfer rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown.

Behind Augustave, Dallan Hayden should be next in line to receive carries. Charlie Offerdahl, who produced a team-high 56 rushing yards against Arizona, is also available.

Will Travis Hunter play this week? Injury update for Colorado’s two-way star

Coach Prime offered an injury update on Travis Hunter

After sitting out the second half of Colorado football’s Week 8 win at Arizona for precautionary reasons, injured cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter is expected to return for the Buffs’ Week 9 matchup with Cincinnati.

Hunter suffered a shoulder injury against Kansas State in Week 7 and was still in visible discomfort on Saturday in Tucson. The two-way star played in 54 total first-half snaps against Arizona before his removal.

On the season, Hunter owns 604 receiving yards, six touchdowns, 18 total tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Colorado will host the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. MT (ESPN).

Travis Hunter injury update

During his weekly press conference on Tuesday, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders gave the following update on Hunter:

“Travis is better than last week,” Coach Prime said. “I think he’ll have more productivity because he’s feeling much better than last week. You can just tell with his little giddy-up and the way he goes about life, (there’s) a little more pep in his step today. I think he did some conditioning today for sure to make sure he’s on point with his conditioning because he never tires and we want to keep that what it is. I think he will certainly contribute a lot more than he did a week ago because he’s healthier.”

How long will Travis Hunter be out?

Based on Coach Prime’s comments, I’d expect Hunter to return for Colorado’s Week 9 game against Cincinnati on Saturday. The Heisman hopeful may not see his typical load of 120-ish total snaps, but expect Hunter to be in uniform and available.

Colorado depth at wide receiver, cornerback

Fortunately for the Buffs, they’re plenty deep at both wide receiver and cornerback. Offensively, freshmen wide receivers Drelon Miller, Jordan Onovughe and Asaad Waseem are candidates to see more playing time if Hunter remains sidelined.

At cornerback, Colton Hood has made the most out of his increased opportunity. The former Auburn Tiger recorded an interception in each of Colorado’s past two games.

Colorado star Travis Hunter sidelined for remainder of Arizona game

Colorado has opted to keep Travis Hunter sidelined for the remainder of today’s game at Arizona

Colorado football cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter has been sidelined for the remainder of the Buffs’ Saturday afternoon game against the Arizona Wildcats.

According to Fox Sports, Hunter experienced a “slight reaggravation” of the shoulder injury he suffered last week against Baylor. CU announced Hunter’s removal was due to “preventative measures.”

Hunter wasn’t dressed in uniform when the Buffs took the field for the second half.

In the first half, Hunter had two catches for 17 yards and one tackle before exiting.

Tight end Sam Hart and true freshman running back Micah Welch also won’t return for the remainder of Saturday’s game in Tucson, per multiple reports. Welch has been nursing a hamstring injury and Hart suffered an apparent leg injury early in the first half.

Travis Hunter ‘should play for certain’ against Arizona, per Deion Sanders

Colorado should be getting its Heisman contender back this weekend

Colorado football fans likely suffered a scare when wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter went down with an apparent right shoulder injury during Saturday’s loss to Kansas State. Fortunately for the Buffs, his status appears clear regarding this weekend’s matchup at Arizona.

“Travis should play for certain,” head coach Deion Sanders said during his weekly press conference Tuesday morning.

Hunter headed to the locker room after suffering the shoulder injury early in the second quarter on Saturday night. While he later returned to the sideline, the two-way phenom didn’t return to the game.

At the midway point of this season, Hunter leads CU in receiving yards (587) and is second in receiving touchdowns (six). The Heisman hopeful is looking to help the Buffs bounce back this Saturday in Tuscon.

Jimmy Horn Jr., the Buffs’ second-leading receiver, should also play this weekend, per Coach Prime. The senior exited the K-State game with an apparent ankle injury.

Colorado’s latest injury news isn’t all positive, though. Wideout Omarion Miller, who led Colorado in receiving yards against the Wildcats with 145, is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on his leg. During the fourth quarter of Saturday’s contest, Miller was left in severe pain after taking the brunt of a Kansas State defender’s hip-drop tackle following a 51-yard grab.

Coach Prime also revealed that wide receiver Terrell Timmons Jr. is “probably out” against Arizona.

Jimmy Horn Jr. exits with injury in first half of Colorado-Kansas State

Jimmy Horn Jr. was seen heading to the locker room in the first half

Colorado football wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. was taken back to the locker room after suffering an apparent injury in the first half of Saturday’s game against the Kansas State Wildcats and is questionable to return.

Horn was involved early in the game plan, catching three passes for 20 yards, but took a bruising hit on a catch over the middle. The explosive WR came into Saturday second on the team with 23 catches for 327 yards.

If Horn can’t return to the game, we could see more of Drelon and Omarion Miller.

Cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter was also taken to the locker room in the first half with an apparent shoulder injury but returned to the sideline. Hunter is also considered questionable to return, per CU.

Colorado’s offense struggled with its two leading receivers out, meaning offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur must scheme up a new plan of attack as Kansas State leads 14-7 at the half.

The Buffs have had success running the ball in recent weeks but they’ve largely gone with the passing attack so far against K-State. Dallan Hayden is the only running back with a carry, rushing the ball seven times for 11 yards in the first half.

Colorado assistant Vincent Dancy provides injury update on Dayon Hayes

Colorado is hoping to get Dayon Hayes back soon

One thing that jumped out at me during Colorado football’s Week 5 win over the UCF Knights was how well the Buffs’ defense played despite missing multiple impact players. Well, CU could be getting a key name back soon.

Defensive end Dayon Hayes didn’t play against UCF but is progressing toward a return, according to defensive ends coach Vincent Dancy. Hayes is tied for the team lead with two sacks and is tied for third in tackles for loss (3.5). With another run-heavy squad coming to Boulder this weekend in Kansas State, it would help to have as many bodies as possible along the front to slow down the Wildcats’ rushing attack.

On Wednesday, Dancy was asked if the bye week helped in the recovery process for Hayes (h/t Jake Schwanitz of DNVR Buffs):

“He’s progressing,” Dancy said. “Right now he’s still a little gimpy. Looking forward to getting him back.”

Shilo Sanders set to return for Colorado’s Week 7 game against Kansas State

Shilo Sanders is expected to make his return this weekend

According to Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders, starting safety Shilo Sanders will make his return for the Buffs’ Week 7 game against Kansas State on Saturday.

The younger Sanders suffered a forearm injury during Colorado’s Week 2 loss at Nebraska, forcing him to miss three full games. Before the injury, which required surgery, Sanders had 11 total tackles on the season.

“Shilo is ready,” Coach Prime said during his weekly Tuesday press conference. “He’s practicing. He’s full-go. He has a rubber cast on. He’s doing his thing. I can’t wait to see him back there because he and Cam (Silmon-Craig), they’re unbelievable together.”

Carter Stoutmire had some strong moments while starting in place of Sanders. With 13 total tackles and two pass breakups recorded since Sept. 14, the sophomore will continue to see action in certain defensive packages moving forward, per Coach Prime.

“Carter has done a wonderful job, got a lot of experience, and he’s in on some packages as well,” Coach Prime said. “But Shilo is full-go. We should have the entire starting defense this week.”

Kickoff between Colorado and Kansas State is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. MT on ESPN.
