Who are the top 2024 prospects in Colorado?

Take a look at the best 2024 prospects the state of Colorado has to offer

While the Buffs have at least offered many of their home state’s best class of 2024 prospects, they haven’t had much luck landing commitments just yet.

We’ll see if that changes moving forward but at the same time, CU head coach Deion Sanders remains in possession of the Pac-12’s second-best 2024 recruiting class with his five pledges. Coach Prime also landed 2025 four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins Jr., one of the many Florida natives who’ve committed to the Buffaloes in recent months.

Take a look at the top 10 class of 2024 prospects — all of whom are three-stars — in the state of Colorado, per the 247Sports Composite:

CU Buffs remain in contention for top-ranked Oklahoma prospect Danny Okoye

Oklahoma’s top-ranked 2024 prospect remains high on the #cubuffs

Where is home?

Danny Okoye, the No. 1 ranked 2024 prospect in Oklahoma (247Sports Composite), posed that question via Twitter on Saturday morning as he revealed his top 10 schools of Colorado, LSU, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Oregon, Tennessee and Oklahoma.

For the Buffs and head coach Deion Sanders, Boulder, of course, is the preferred answer to Okoye’s question. Colorado offered the four-star EDGE back in December and he took a visit the following month, later reporting a positive experience.

Okoye plays for the NOAH Jaguars, a team comprised of homeschooled athletes in Oklahoma. Over the past two seasons combined, he owns an impressive 121 tackles, 37 TFLs, 16.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Okoye told Ben McKee of 247Sports that he hopes to announce his college decision in “late October or late November.”

Five-star CB Charles Lester III coming to Colorado for official visit

Can Coach Prime work his magic again with another top CB recruit?

The Colorado Buffaloes and head coach Deion Sanders have done work when it comes to recruiting the cornerback position. In back-to-back recruiting cycles, Coach Prime landed five-star CBs Travis Hunter (at Jackson State) and Cormani McClain. Charles Lester III could be next as the five-star is one of the highest-ranked 2024 CBs.

On Wednesday, Lester took to Twitter to clarify which schools he will be taking official visits to, and Colorado made the cut. The Sarasota, Florida native will be in Boulder from June 9-11, he announced.

Lester is listed at 6-foot-1, 171 pounds and is the No. 15 overall recruit and the No. 2 CB for the class of 2024, according to the 247Sports Composite.

As of now, Lester has a top three of Alabama, Florida State and Georgia, despite his intentions to visit Colorado. But based on Coach Prime’s track record, I wouldn’t count the Buffs out until pen is put to paper on a national letter of intent.

Colorado recruit Brandon Davis-Swain shines at Under Armour Next camp

Colorado recruit Brandon Davis-Swain stood out at a recent Under Armour Next camp

The Colorado Buffaloes landed a four-star recruit via Instagram Live on Tuesday in Aaron Butler. Fellow 2024 four-star recruit and Under Armour All-American Game player Brandon Davis-Swain could be next to commit as he has Colorado in his top five along with USC, Purdue, Auburn and Michigan.

Davis-Swain was recently at the Under Armour Next camp in Baltimore and impressed in every way possible, so being able to land him would be a huge get for the Buffs. The strongside defensive end even took to Twitter to quote tweet a video of his camp highlights and posted an eye emoji with a few different mentions in there.

Here’s the video of him at the camp:

Davis-Swain was one of many recruits who came to Boulder for the Spring Game, and it seems to be only a matter of time before he ends up making his final decision.

Davis-Swain plays at West Bloomfield High School in Michigan and has another CU visit set for June 9, per 247Sports. If Deion Sanders can land Davis-Swain to add to all his other talented 2024 players, the Buffs could be a major college football threat for the next few years.

Four-star recruit Aaron Butler commits to Colorado via Deion Sanders’ Instagram Live

Four-star prospect Aaron Butler gave his commitment to Colorado in a rather memorable fashion

Colorado just picked up a big commitment in its 2024 class.

Four-star athlete Aaron Butler from Calabasas, California committed to the Buffs on Tuesday in a rather unconventional way, joining head coach Deion Sanders’ Instagram Live to make the announcement.

Butler’s pledge, which was confirmed by several other sources, makes him the top-rated commit in Colorado’s 2024 class. The 6-foot, 165-pound Butler is ranked as the No. 65 overall recruit, No. 5 athlete and the No. 9 recruit in California, according to 247Sports.

He had multiple offers on the table, most notably from Alabama and Oregon, and was previously committed to USC.

The times in Boulder have changed since the hiring of Sanders, and earning Butler’s commitment over the likes of current powers Alabama, Oregon and USC indeed confirms that.

Colorado in top seven for four-star 2024 TE Caleb Odom

Blue-chip TE Caleb Odom included the #cubuffs in his top seven

The recruiting trail doesn’t stop for Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders. With spring football in the rearview mirror, the Buffs are busy as ever on the recruiting front.

The Buffs are now in the top seven for talented four-star class of 2024 tight end Caleb Odom, per Hayes Fawcett of On3. Other schools Odom is considering include Alabama, Penn State, Miami (FL), Ole Miss, Florida and Georgia, so the Buffs have some tough competition once again.

Odom is considering a visit to Boulder sometime in June, according to 247Sports.

The Carrollton High School (Georgia) prospect is the No. 5 TE in his class (247Sports) and has one more year of high school football remaining before heading to college. Odom had a monster junior season, catching 63 passes for 1,121 yards and 13 touchdowns while helping Carrollton reach the Georgia AAAAAAA state finals.

The Buffs brought in veteran coach Tim Brewster to work with the tight ends, and his presence should help the position grow immensely over the next few years. Being coached by Deion Sanders is also a bonus, and the Buffs landing Odom would be a massive get for them.

Four-star RB Micah Welch announces upcoming Colorado official visit

Four-star RB Micah Welch is taking an official visit to Colorado this summer

It hasn’t been easy keeping up with the number of top-tier recruits visiting Boulder these days, but that’s ultimately a good thing for Colorado football.

This summer, the Buffaloes are set to host four-star class of 2024 running back Micah Welch on an official visit from June 9-11, according to his Twitter. Rivals ranks Welch as the No. 15 RB in the class.

The 5-foot-9, 195-pound prospect averaged over six yards per carry and rushed for a total of 1,371 yards during his junior season at Baldwin High School in Georgia. Welch also scored a combined 35 touchdowns on the ground the past two seasons.

Colorado running backs coach Gary “Flea” Harrell is currently looking for his first 2024 commit.

Five-star 2024 Colorado target Williams Nwaneri names top 10

Colorado remains in the hunt for coveted five-star DL Williams Nwaneri

Coveted five-star defensive lineman Williams Nwaneri is getting closer to announcing his commitment.

On Thursday, the No. 3 overall prospect (247Sports) in the class of 2024 narrowed his list of potential schools down to 10 with Colorado making the cut. Nwaneri, who was in Boulder for the Buffs’ spring game, also included Tennessee, Missouri, Alabama, Oregon, Georgia, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Nebraska in his top 10.

He’s still just a junior at Lee’s Summit North High School in Missouri, but landing Nwanari would, of course, be huge for a Colorado team currently in search of defensive line depth.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Allan Trieu projects Nwanari as a future first-round NFL draft pick with “verified size, length and testing data that is impressive for a player of his build and age.”

CU Buffs make 2024 four-star ATH Brauntae Johnson’s top 10

Just 10 days after extending an offer, the #cubuffs made four-star athlete Brauntae Johnson’s top 10

Colorado is in consideration for another top prospect.

The Buffs have made the top 10 list of Brauntae Johnson, a four-star athlete in the class of 2024 from North Side High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Johnson, who projects as a wide receiver, is ranked as the No. 127 overall player, No. 8 athlete and the No. 3 player in Indiana, according to 247Sports.

Along with Colorado, he also has Louisville, Miami, Purdue, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Penn State, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Missouri in his top 10.

Johnson excels against zone coverage and although he doesn’t have breakaway speed, he does show good ball skills and is able to get inside leverage well despite his 6-foot-3, 170-pound frame.

Johnson’s latest offer is from Colorado, and it’s a good sign for head coach Deion Sanders that the Buffs made his top 10, given that the offer came on April 15.

There’s likely a long way to go in Johnson’s recruitment, but this development is certainly something to keep an eye on going forward for Buffs fans.

Four-star athlete Ju’Juan Johnson decommits from Colorado

Highly-ranked prospect Ju’Juan Johnson announced his decommitment from Colorado

The Colorado Buffaloes’ spring game was fun to watch, and we gained a first-hand look at Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter and many others competing at Folsom Field for the first time.

Not long after the game, however, a number of players entered the transfer portal, including wide receiver Montana Lemonious-Craig. The bad news kept coming for Colorado, too. Four-star class of 2024 athlete Ju’Juan Johnson announced his decommitment from the Buffs on Sunday, per his Twitter page.

Johnson is the top 2024 athlete in the state of Louisiana (he’s projected as a cornerback), but with Hunter and Cormani McClain coming to Boulder, it would’ve been tough for him to find playing time next season.

However, Johnson mentioned the Buffs remain an option in his recruitment:

“Colorado is still a top school and will still be highly considered as I continue to navigate through this process,” Johnson wrote on Twitter.
