Four-star WR Amari Jefferson, a Tennessee baseball commit, includes CU Buffs in top 12

Despite wanting to play both football and baseball in college, four-star WR Amari Jefferson included Colorado in his top 12 schools

Despite being the only Pac-12 school without a Division I baseball program, Colorado football made the top 12 for 2024 four-star wide receiver Amari Jefferson, a Tennessee baseball commit who’s aiming to play both sports in college.

The Buffs may be at a major disadvantage, but playing for head coach Deion Sanders, one of the greatest athletes to ever balance football and baseball, remains an attraction too great for Jefferson to simply push CU aside.

“I speak to them (Colorado) a lot,” Jefferson told Rivals. “They give amazing feedback to me as a wide out. And then there is Coach Prime. Playing for him would be amazing.”

Jefferson committed to Tennessee’s baseball program following his freshman year at the Baylor School (Chattanooga, Tennessee), although his football recruiting stock has since skyrocketed thanks to him recording over 1,300 receiving yards as a junior.

The dual-sport athlete also included Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Georgia, Oregon, Miami, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Florida State and South Carolina in his top 12.

Colorado a top school for 2024 four-star WR Rico Scott

Colorado is in the hunt for a four-star Pennsylvania WR

Since Deion Sanders took over the reins of the Colorado Buffaloes, recruiting both the transfer portal and high school prospects has been much improved.

Things are still going well in that area, and the Buffs are squarely in the race for class of 2024 four-star wide receiver Rico Scott.

Scott, from Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, released his top six schools and Colorado made the cut along with Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Penn State.

As for campus visits, Scott has been to Penn State multiple times and has visits planned with Tennessee and Georgia on deck. A visit to Colorado isn’t currently scheduled, but one figures to come soon enough.

If Colorado can add Scott to its ranks, the Buffs would be adding an explosive receiver that’s likely to stay in the slot early on, given his 6-foot, 185-pound frame. He would certainly be a weapon for the Buffs as they continue the rebuilding process under Coach Prime.

Five-star 2024 WR Bryant Wesco includes Colorado in top list of schools

Five-star 2024 WR Bryant Wesco has the #cubuffs on his top list of schools

Wash, rinse, repeat. That is what has been happening for the Colorado Buffaloes on the recruiting trail ever since Deion Sanders became the head coach.

Every week, top recruits are narrowing down their lists and they continuously have the Buffs in them. This time it is class of 2024 WR Bryant Wesco, who narrowed his list down to eight schools. Here is the list, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3:

The Buffs are the only Pac-12 school on this list, and the 6-foot-3 wide receiver from Midlothian High School in Texas has a lot of potential. Wesco is a five-star prospect and would be a massive addition to the Buffs’ offense going forward.

Here’s a video of an impressive catch he made just a couple of weeks ago:

Wesco finished his junior year of high school with 58 catches for 1,160 yards and 14 touchdowns, and he is also on the track team at Midlothian.

The Buffs have been on a ton of final lists over the past few weeks, and Coach Prime and his staff are working tirelessly to turn around a program that went 1-11 this past season.

PHOTOS: 2024 Colorado QB commit Danny O’Neil

Take a photographic look at new Colorado QB commit Danny O’Neil

The Colorado Buffaloes found what could be their starting quarterback of the future on Tuesday in Indianapolis gunslinger Danny O’Neil.

The 2024 prospect is rated as a three-star by most recruiting platforms but that could change with another season at Cathedral High School coming up this fall. Most scouts consider him to be a pocket QB, yet his athleticism also shines when watching his tape. For more on O’Neil, we broke down his recruiting profile soon after he became Colorado’s first QB commitment for 2024.

First, though, check out a few photos of him from his sophomore and junior seasons at Cathedral:

Colorado lands first 2024 QB commitment in Danny O’Neil

Colorado received its first 2024 QB commitment in Indianapolis gunslinger Danny O’Neil

On Tuesday, Colorado landed a commitment from what could be the Buffaloes’ future starting quarterback in class of 2024 Indianapolis gunslinger Danny O’Neil.

While current QB Shedeur Sanders is only entering his third season of college football, there’s a chance he tests the NFL draft waters after next season, giving likely either Ryan Staub or Kasen Weisman — both 2023 signees — an opportunity to snag the starting role. But with O’Neil now in the picture, head coach Deion Sanders could be deciding between three different potential starting quarterbacks leading up to the 2024 season. (Thank you for speculating a bit with me.)

Four-star EDGE Loghan Thomas has Colorado in top 10

Colorado target Loghan Thomas, a Texas four-star EDGE, revealed his top 10

The Colorado Buffaloes being connected to highly-ranked recruits is suddenly a normal thing. This is because Deion Sanders has drastically changed the face of the program in just a matter of months.

Once again, the Buffs have landed the attention of another elite recruit, four-star class of 2024 EDGE Loghan Thomas. He announced his top 10 schools on Tuesday:

That’s an impressive list to be a part of, and it includes a couple of Pac-12 schools in Arizona and USC as well. Thomas revealed his list of 10 schools on Twitter, and the Buffs being with Georgia and Notre Dame just shows how good of a job Coach Prime has done on the recruiting front.

Thomas is the No. 16 EDGE in the 2024 class (247Sports Composite), and this would be another massive get in what is looking like a dangerous defense that currently features Cormani McClain and Travis Hunter.

Thomas plays at Paetow High School in Katy, Texas and he dropped his list from 22 to 10, so the Buffs have to feel good about this one.

Top-10 class of 2024 TE Jaden Reddell schedules Colorado visit

One of the top 2024 tight ends is set to visit Colorado

We’ve got another name to add to our abbreviated spring visitors list as it was reported that four-star tight end Jaden Reddell has plans to visit Colorado for the Buffaloes’ spring game on April 22.

Reddell is ranked as the class of 2024’s No. 6 TE and the No. 3 player in Missouri, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Buffaloes had offered him fairly recently on Jan. 25.

Last season as a junior, Reddell hauled in over 1,000 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns at Raymore-Peculiar High School.

Currently, the Buffaloes have five commits for 2024, but Reddell would be the first at his position to join tight ends coach Tim Brewster.

Here’s what 247Sports national recruiting analyst Allen Trieu wrote on Reddell:

Used primarily as a big receiver in high school. Projects as a flex tight end in college who can still split out, stand in the slot and be moved around. Could end up playing attached with his hand down but has very little experience doing that at this point in his career. No verified speed times but is a long strider who runs very naturally and shows he can get vertical as well as run after the catch. Has natural ball skills and tracks and catches it over his shoulder like a wide receiver.

Notable recruits expected to visit Colorado this spring

Check out just a few of the notable recruits expected to visit Boulder this spring

It’s getting more and more challenging keeping track of the growing list of recruits who are expected to visit Colorado this spring. On an almost daily basis, reports surface regarding top 100 prospects planning visits to Boulder.

Many of those recruits are even expected to attend the Buffs’ first spring football game under new head coach Deion Sanders, which ESPN is scheduled to air live on April 22.

As of Monday, Colorado owns five class of 2024 commits and one 2025 commit, but more should come soon if spring visits go well.

Below are just a few — not close to all — notable recruits set to visit Colorado this spring:

Colorado set to host four-star RB Stacy Gage during spring football game

With Colorado in his top eight, four-star RB Stacy Gage is set to visit Boulder this spring

One of the more exciting running backs in the class of 2024 is scheduled to be in Boulder for Colorado’s spring football game on April 22, per multiple reports.

After including the Buffs in his top eight in January, Florida blue-chip RB Stacy Gage has a visit scheduled during what’s shaping up to be a huge weekend for CU recruiting.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Gage is ranked No. 163 overall nationally and No. 10 at RB following a strong junior season. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound prospect recorded over 800 offensive yards with 14 touchdowns in the fall for St. Thomas Aquinas High School, which produced current CU running back Anthony Hankerson.

Gage told BuffStampede’s Adam Munsterteiger (subscription required) that his relationship with head coach Deion Sanders and running backs coach Gary Harrell has made Colorado an attractive destination.

Four-star DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell raves about Colorado

Four-star DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell spoke highly of the #cubuffs and he’s set to visit in April

The Colorado Buffaloes are working hard on the recruiting front and looking to make a massive statement in the Pac-12 Conference.

One player who is set to take a visit this spring is four-star class of 2024 defensive back Jordon Johnson-Rubell. He is also going to visit TCU, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan and Alabama and will finish it off with a visit to Colorado for the Buffs’ Spring Game on April 22, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.

Johnson-Rubell is the No. 7 safety in the class, and he spoke highly of the impression that Deion Sanders and defensive backs coach Kevin Mathis (h/t 247Sports, subscription required):

“Coach Prime and Mathis coached when I played with the youth teams in Texas Truth and I love how they’ve changed Jackson State around and I feel like they’re gonna do the same with Colorado.”

The Buffs have been active on the defensive front as well with recruiting, and five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart also has a visit slated to Boulder in what would be another huge addition to the program.

The impression that Coach Prime leaves on these players is unquestionable, and that’s a primary reason why athletic director Rick George was so adamant to bring him to town.
