Auburn basketball drops slightly in College Sports Wire’s power rankings

Heading into the first full week of March, Auburn basketball drops in College Sports Wire’s power rankings prior to its final two games

The month of March is here, meaning the madness is slowly beginning to unravel. Now, every team is on close watch in each of their final games. After splitting a pair of games last week, Auburn basketball finds itself slipping in the polls heading into said games.

The Tigers dropped into the No. 14 spot in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and to No. 13 in the Associated Press Poll. The latest edition of College Sports Wire’s power rankings also had Auburn slipping, as Andy Patton has ranked it at No. 13 as well.

In the Tigers’ loss to Tennessee, they hung around with the Volunteers for the entire game, but first half turnovers were their achilles heel in 92-84 loss. In Saturday’s win over Mississippi State, however, Auburn shot 50% from the field, which helped the team out tremendously to win by 15.

The Tigers are once again the second-highest-ranked SEC, trailing behind the Volunteers, who come in at No. 4. Alabama drops down to the No. 18 spot after splitting a pair of games against Ole Miss and Tennessee. Kentucky drops down to No. 22, while South Carolina rises from the depths of the unranked to No. 20. Houston, UConn, Purdue and North Carolina round out the top five.

Auburn has a chance to rise up in the next power rankings by taking care of business on the road on Tuesday against Missouri and then back at home again on Saturday against Georgia.

Auburn attempts to make dash at top 10 in College Sports Wire’s power rankings

With just a few games left in the regular season, Auburn comes in at No. 11 in the latest edition of College Sports Wire’s power rankings.

Auburn basketball is in the final stretch of its 2024 regular season, trying to make some final strides towards a good ranking in a final polls. After winning on the road over Georgia on Saturday, the Tigers find themselves doing just that.

Auburn rose up to the No. 11 spot in both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll. Andy Patton seems to view the Tigers the exact same way, as they are also ranked No. 11 in College Sports Wire’s power rankings.

In Auburn’s victory against the Bulldogs, it shot over 60% from the field and over 50% from 3-point range. Four different players found their way into double digits in the scoring column, including [autotag]Aden Holloway[/autotag], who had been struggling as of late.

Patton has the Tigers as the second-highest-ranked SEC team, only trailing to Tennessee at No. 4, which is who Auburn plays next on Wednesday. No. 14 Alabama, No. 20 Kentucky and No. 21 Florida also sit firmly in the standings, making up the rest of the five-team conference representation this week. Houston, UConn, Purdue and North Carolina make up the other teams in the top five.

The Tigers’ huge week began with a tough loss to No. 4 Tennessee on Wednesday, but will look to bounce back against Mississippi State in a revenge game on Saturday.

Auburn sees another drop in College Sports Wire’s power rankings

After splitting a pair of ranked games last week, Auburn drops three more spots in College Sports Wire’s power rankings.

The Auburn Tigers find themselves moving down in many of the national polls after they split a pair of top-25 home games in Neville Arena, defeating South Carolina by 40 and losing to Kentucky by 11.

Auburn slipped down to the No. 14 spot in both the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll. Meanwhile, the latest edition of College Sports Wire’s power rankings have dropped the Tigers down three spots from last week to No. 15.

In Auburn’s win rout of South Carolina, the Tigers shot over 50% in both halves and had no problem finding their stroke from any part of the field. That performance did not transition its way to the Kentucky game, though, as Auburn shot a measly 30.9% and could not take the lid off of the basket.

According to Andy Patton’s rankings, the Tigers are now the third-highest-ranking team in the SEC. Tennessee is the highest at the No. 5 spot while Alabama sits one spot ahead of Auburn at No. 14. UConn takes hold of the top spot this week, with Purdue, Houston and Arizona making up the other teams in the top five.

After its win over Auburn, Kentucky moves back into the power rankings this week, submitting itself into the No. 21 spot. Florida is also a team on a run of success as of late, and the Gators now find themselves at the No. 25 position.

The Tigers have a light week this week, but their game is not easy with a road test at Georgia on Saturday. That game is set to tip off at 5 p.m. CST and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.

Auburn takes step back in College Sports Wire’s power rankings

Auburn basketball slips down a couple of spots in College Sports Wire’s latest power rankings following a split of two games.

Following its winning of back-to-back games two weeks ago, Auburn basketball had an up-and-down week in SEC play last week, splitting a pair of games against Alabama and Florida. The Tigers took a small step down in many of the nation’s polls.

Auburn made the drop down to No. 12 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll and No. 13 in the Associated Press Poll. The latest edition of College Sports Wire’s power rankings held a similar fate for the Tigers, moving them down to No. 12 as well.

In Auburn’s revenge win over Alabama last Wednesday, the Tigers posed their will inside in the 18-point win. The same could not be said for the matchup with the Gators, however, as Auburn could not find much luck in any facet of the game on the way to a 16-point loss. Andy Patton still has the Tigers as the second-highest-ranking team in the SEC, with Rick Barnes and Tennessee sitting at No. 9. Purdue, UConn, Houston, Arizona and North Carolina make up the top five this week.

Neither Alabama or South Carolina made drastic moves, with the Crimson Tide dropping to No. 16 and the Gamecocks rising to No. 14. A noticeable name that is no longer in the rankings is Kentucky after it split a pair of games last week, including losing its third-straight in Rupp Arena at the hands of Gonzaga.

Auburn has a monumental chance to pick up two ranked victories at home this week with games against South Carolina on Wednesday and Kentucky on Saturday.
