This past weekend, the Oklahoma Sooners hosted their first major recruiting event in the Brent Venables era. There were several players present across recruiting classes and the Oklahoma Sooners have used that to their advantage, apparently making a strong impression on four-star edge prospect Gracen Halton.

Halton, who was committed to the Oregon Ducks received a Crystal Ball projection from OUInsider at 247Sports Parker Thune on Monday. Now just a couple of days later, Halton has decommitted from the Ducks.

Within minutes of his decommittment, further projections from On3 Sports and Rivals indicate that Halton will likely be joining the Oklahoma Sooners. SoonerScoops’ Josh McCuiston and On3’s Justin Hopkins have the Oklahoma Sooners clearly in the sights of the four-star prospect out of San Diego, California.

Halton is a four-star prospect across the major recruiting services and could figure into the Oklahoma Sooners defensive line rotation similarly to Isaiah Thomas. An edge player who has the size to play on the interior on pass rush downs.

With the decommitment from Oregon, now all we await is an official announcement of his future playing destination. With National Signing Day coming on Feb. 2nd, we’ll hear something official in the next week.

Clemson insider puts in Crystal ball for four-star Tigers commit to land at Oklahoma

Four-Star athlete Jaren Kanak is predicted to land in Oklahoma according to a crystal ball prediction by Clemson insider.

While the early signing period may be coming to a close soon, the Oklahoma Sooners are far from done. We chronicled some names that remain as possible targets for Oklahoma as they now focus their recruiting efforts on the official national signing day in February.

One of those names is Jaren Kanak, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound athlete out of Hays, Kansas. Since the summer, Kanak is rated as a four-star player with 247Sports and has been a Clemson commit. He committed to Clemson when Venables was there and planned to play linebacker. A lot of things have changed since the summer, with Venables making the move to Oklahoma.

The speculation that Kanak would follow Venables to Oklahoma has ramped up since Venables’ official introduction as the Sooners head coach. The first crystal ball projecting Kanak’s flip to the Sooners came in a day later and the rest has been hushed whispers of not why or how but when would Kanak take the leap.

Venables loosely mentioned in a press conference after the Sooners signed all but two of their commits that there were still some signees to come.

To add even more fuel to the fire, Anna Hickey of Clemson Insider put in a crystal ball of 7/10 confidence in Kanak to Oklahoma. That brings six total predictions that he will flip from Clemson to Oklahoma.

Oklahoma seems to be trending in the right direction for a talented kid with a very high ceiling and an athletic profile to match.

Given Venables’ track record of linebackers and molding them into sideline to sideline playmaking machines, adding a guy like Kanak to a room already filled with David Ugwoegbu, Danny Stutsman, DaShaun White, Shane Whitter, and soon to be Kip Lewis, and Kobie McKinzie could turn Oklahoma’s linebacker unit to one of the best position groups on the entire team.

Crystal ball projection from 247Sports on 2023 Athlete Makai Lemon

With the 2023 recruiting cycle already off to a great start with Treyaun Webb and Malachi Nelson, more fireworks could be headed the Sooners’ way.

[mm-video type=video id=01fbqbkn3qa9atd8gszr playlist_id=01eqbz7cqqgxy50qwt player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fbqbkn3qa9atd8gszr/01fbqbkn3qa9atd8gszr-b32c3fe715be9a7edcf9fbc64126aaea.jpg]

The Oklahoma Sooners have already started off the 2023 recruiting cycle with a bang. A few weeks ago, they landed Treyaun Webb, a four-star athlete out of Florida, to kick off the 2023 recruiting class. Then 2023’s number two overall quarterback Malachi Nelson committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.

As the 2023 recruiting cycle continues, Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners will continue to land big-time players for their recruiting class. 247Sports dropped their latest crystal ball projection for five-star athlete Makai Lemon out of Los Alamitos, California.

OU Insider recruiting analysts Brandon Drumm and Parker Thune both have Lemon headed to the Sooners with a high confidence level. 247Sports national recruiting analyst Greg Biggins also sees Lemon going to the Sooners with a high confidence level. What’s interesting is that USC recruiting analyst Gerard Martinez puts Lemon to the Sooners but only has a medium level of confidence that’s where the five-star recruit will land.

Overall, 247Sports projects Lemon to the Sooners with a confidence score of eight, which is pretty high. Lemon, a teammate of Malachi Nelson, could end up following his Los Alamitos brethren to Norman to continue the success they’ve had in high school.

Drawing a comparison to the NFL’s Robert Woods, Biggins of 247 Sports provided this scouting report.

Lemon is a very good looking young player with a ton of upside. He has an athletic frame with some growth potential and should have no issues filling out and adding good weight down the road. He’s a twitchy two-way athlete who shows elite upside as a receiver or a cornerback. He has good short area quickness, change of direction, runs well after the catch and is a natural pass catcher. He has excellent body control and a smooth, natural feel for the position. As a corner, he’s a tough kid who can run, make plays down the field and is physical in run support. He works hard off the field and has all the tools to project as a Power 5 starter and future high round NFL draft pick. – Biggins

Thus far, Makai Lemon has 100 receptions for 1,540 yards and 14 touchdowns over two seasons in his high school career. On the defensive side of the football, he has eight interceptions and two fumble recoveries.

Makai Lemon is expected to make his commitment known on August seventh, which could be another great day for the Oklahoma Sooners on the recruiting trail in the Summer of 2021.
