Vikings waive Coy Cronk with non-football injury designation

The 2024 NFL Draft is right around the corner but that doesn’t mean the roster management stops for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.

The 2024 NFL Draft is right around the corner, but that doesn’t mean the roster management stops for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. On Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings waived Coy Cronk with a non-football injury designation.

There was no injury listed at the time of his release.

Cronk, who is 26, entered the league in 2021 after going undrafted out of Iowa. He initially signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he would make his way to the Minnesota Vikings last November. He never played a game for the Vikings, but he was listed as the backup left tackle behind Christian Darrisaw.

He played in three games in his career with the Jaguars despite never playing with the Vikings. During his tenures with both teams, he bounced back and forth between the active roster and practice squad.

Look for the Vikings to address the offensive tackle position now during the 2024 NFL Draft. Day three is projected to have several projects at the position, so that is likely to be the day we see the team dip into that pool of talent.

10 players sign future contracts with Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings signed 10 player from the practice squad to futures contracts, keeping them with the franchise during the offseason.

The Minnesota Vikings began shaping their 2024 roster on Monday afternoon by signing 10 players to futures contracts.

A futures contract is one that a player signs when they aren’t signed to a team’s active roster when the season is over. It is for the league minimum depending on how many service years the player has. The players don’t impact the salary cap until the new league year starts on March 13th.

Each year, teams usually sign in the ballpark of 10 players to futures contracts. They are usually players that have been on their practice squads throughout the year but every so often, teams will sign a player from another practice squad.

The Vikings signed 10 players to futures contracts on Monday afternoon with all of them having been on the practice squad.

Jaguars bring back OL Ben Bartch as practice squad addition

The Jaguars brought back Ben Bartch to the practice squad after he cleared waivers.

Veteran offensive lineman Ben Bartch was signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad Friday, the team announced.

Bartch, a 2020 fourth-round pick, was waived by the Jaguars earlier this week after the team traded to acquire Ezra Cleveland from the Minnesota Vikings. The fourth-year lineman cleared waivers freeing him up to return on the practice squad.

To make room for the return of Bartch, the Jaguars released Coy Cronk, an offensive lineman who first joined the team in October 2021 and appeared in three regular season games with the team during the 2022 season.

Bartch, 25, started 11 games for the Jaguars in 2021 and earned the starting left guard job to begin the 2022 season. But he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 5 and was on the PUP list to begin training camp this year. After returning to the starting lineup to start the 2023 season, Bartch was benched after three starts.

While the Jaguars now have Bartch back in the locker room, his time with the franchise could be approaching its end with his rookie contract set to expire after this season.

Jaguars 2023 roster review: OL Coy Cronk

Coy Cronk is entering his third year with the Jaguars and he could be primed for a permanent role.

The brunt of the offseason is in the books and training camp is coming soon. Join us in the NFL’s dead zone with a player-by-player review of the Jaguars roster ahead of the 2023 season.

Coy Cronk has played just six offensive snaps in his NFL career. But entering the 2023 season, the third-year veteran is suddenly one of the most tenured players on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ offensive line.

After first signing with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent in 2021, Cronk joined the Jaguars practice squad in October of that season. While he’s spent almost all of his time in Jacksonville still on the practice squad, Tyler Shatley, Cam Robinson, Walker Little, and Ben Bartch are the only lineman who have been on the Jaguars roster longer than Cronk.

A former starter at both Indiana and Iowa, Cronk is now looking for a more permanent spot on the Jaguars active roster. And with few changes made to the interior of the line, there’s not many players standing in his way.

Contract (2023): $870,000 base salary, $870,000 cap hit.

Acquired: Jaguars signed Cronk to their practice squad on Oct. 22, 2021.

Quote: “He’s got starting ability, absolutely. Big, long, good head on his shoulders. He went to Iowa, played in two games and the ankle still was not right. He showed up for Iowa’s pro day and tested positive for COVID. You saw two games in 2020 that were bad and then you’ve got to go back almost two full years where you’ve seen just a few snaps, and then no pro day.” – unnamed scout on Cronk

Jags sign OL Coy Cronk to their practice squad

The Jags added OL Coy Cronk to their practice squad Friday, giving them three offensive lineman on the unit.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ are currently on their bye week at the moment but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been active in terms of adding help. Specifically, on Friday, they added some help through the practice squad by rookie offensive lineman Coy Cronk, who previously was with the Green Bay Packers during training camp.

Cronk, 23, started his collegiate career at Indiana University (started in 40 games) and was there from 2016-19. He eventually left the Hoosiers as a graduate transfer to play for Iowa and was able to play in two games with them last year before suffering an ankle injury and missing the Hawkeye’s final six contests.

Cronk’s experience has been at the left tackle position, so it appears the Jags want him as a developmental player on the perimeter. He’ll be the third offensive lineman on the practice squad, joining Tre’Vour Wallace-Simms and Jared Hocker.
