Despite key losses, the Crimson Tide is well positioned to do just that.

Sophomore outside linebacker Chris Braswell will once again wear the No. 41 for Alabama. The former five-star talent didn’t make an immediate impact in Tuscaloosa, but many are expecting a sizable leap to at least a relied on contributor in Year 2.

At some point, Braswell should strive to become as impactful — or maybe even more impactful — than another former outside linebacker who wore the No. 41, Courtney Upshaw.

After a successful career in Tuscaloosa from 2009-12, the Eufaula, Ala. product became an early second-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens during the 2012 NFL draft. From there, Upshaw helped them become a Super Bowl winner.

Alabama football countdown: 41 days until kickoff

We are back to being 41 days away from Alabama’s opening kickoff on Sept. 26. The opponent hasn’t been determined yet.

There has been a lot of uncertainty surrounding college football over the last couple of weeks, but as of right now, the season still looks like it’s a go for the SEC, ACC and Big 12.

So, what does that mean? It means that we can continue to Countdown to Kickoff en route to the Crimson Tide — and the rest of the SEC — getting things underway on Sept. 26.

With it now being Aug. 16, we are officially 41 days away from the start!

Five-star true freshman Chris Braswell, an outside linebacker from Baltimore (Md.), will wear the No. 41 for Alabama this upcoming season.

The last notable player to wear the number, however, is another edge player: former Tide standout Courtney Upshaw. After a successful career in Tuscaloosa, Upshaw ended up being a second-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens before winning a Super Bowl and spending time with the Atlanta Falcons (2016-17) and New York Jets (2018).

While they’re different players, the Alabama coaching staff has to be hoping that Braswell can become as impactful — or maybe more impactful — as Upshaw during his time at Alabama.

Yes, that was unfortunate news, and, yes, that means the Crimson Tide is looking for a new opponent to open its season on Sept. 5, but, as of right now, that is still the target date to open the season. Until that changes, we’ll continue the countdown to kickoff.
