Nebraska tight ends coach announces resignation

A Nebraska assistant football coach announced their resignation Friday afternoon.

A Nebraska assistant football coach announced their resignation Friday afternoon. Tight ends coach Bob Wager told head coach Matt Rhule and athletic director Trev Alberts he is leaving the team following a citation for a driving offense he received earlier in the week.

“It is with great remorse that I resign from my position as assistant football coach at the University of Nebraska,” Wager said. “Earlier this week I received a citation for a driving offense that I regret immensely. I am grateful for the opportunity extended to me, and sincerely sorry for any negativity my poor decision has brought to my family, our team, our staff, and all those that I have disappointed.”

Wager was entering his first year as the tight ends coach for Nebraska. He previously coached at Arlington Martin High School in Arlington, Texas for 17 seasons.

Josh Martin will be elevated to a full-time assistant role as the tight ends coach for Nebraska. Martin joined Nebraska’s staff earlier this year as a special teams analyst. He previously coached at Little Elm High School in Texas, along with being a tight ends coach at SMU and Arizona State.

Social Media reacts to Charlotte’s trade for McGowens

Social media has some thoughts about Bryce McGowens’ selection in the NBA Draft!!

The social media world is discussing the 2022 NBA Draft and the selection of Husker’s guard Bryce McGowens. The Minnesota Timberwolves selected McGowens with the 40th pick of the second round. A draft-day trade though is sending the South Carolina native to Charlotte to play for Michael Jordan and the Hornets. He’ll join first-round picks Jalen Duren from Memphis, and Mark Williams from Duke as a member of the rookie class. Charlotte currently does not have a head coach after Golden State Assitant Kenny Atkinson withdrew from the position shortly after accepting it. Recently former Suns, Knicks, Lakers, and Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni met with Jordan just the other day and is seen as one of the front runners for the position.

There was no shortage of reactions on Twitter to the selection, and we hear at Cornhusker Wire have taken a sample of the best and listed them below.

Minnesota Trades Bryce McGowens to Charlotte on Draft Night

McGowens is headed to Buzz City!!

Nebraska Cornhusker freshman Bryce McGowens was taken with the 40th pick in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft on Thursday night by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but that’s not his final landing spot. Instead, after a draft-day trade, he’ll be headed to Charlotte to play for Michael Jordan and the Hornets. He’ll join first-round picks Jalen Duren from Memphis, and Mark Williams from Duke as a member of the rookie class.

In his one season at Nebraska, the South Carolina native appeared in 31 games scoring 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. However, the freshman campaign was far from perfect as the 6-6 guard shot 40% from the field and 83% from the line. His three-point shot, though, was a woeful 27% for the season.

Will Nebraska be one of the teams returning to a bowl games in 2022?

Will Nebraska be bowling in 2022?

Will Nebraska go bowling in 2022? According to David Cobb of CBS Sports, the answer is yes. What college teams will be joining Nebraska in making a return to the postseason? This new list of returning teams includes some familiar names and obvious picks, but there are also several long shots. I can’t say I agree with every selection on this list, but it is interesting to see how many people are confident that the Huskers will make a bowl game in 2022.

We’ve talked many times before about Nebraska and the postseason hopes for 2022. Nebraska will kick off their 2022 season when they face the Northwestern Wildcats in Dublin, Ireland.

New list asks “will Nebraska play in one of college football’s revenge games?”

A 2022 match-up for Nebraska football is a chance to avenge a 2021 loss!

There are few feelings in College Football that can bring one as much joy as winning the revenge game. Every team has been there. You lost a heartbreaker the year before, and now a rematch the following season and a chance to avenge that loss. A new list from 247Sports takes a look at the ten best college football revenge games in 2022.

Nebraska will be playing in one of those revenge games, and I think we all know which game that will be. But, interestingly enough, it’s the only nonconference matchup on the entire list. Scroll below to see the list of the best revenge games of 2022.

Colorado linebacker commits to the Cornhuskers

Another player joins the recruiting class of 2023

A 3-star linebacker out of Colorado has announced his commitment to the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday. Hayden Moore of Aurora, Colorado, announced his commitment via social media. More had received offers from other Power Five programs such as Texas Tech, Iowa State, Colorado, and Iowa. As a Junior, Moore had 11 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and five sacks in 12 games.

Moore is the ninth player to commit to the class of 2023 and the third defensive player overall. He joins cornerback Dwight Bottle II out of Miami and defensive lineman Riley Van Poppel out of Texas. Inside linebacker coach Barrett Ruud recruited the Colorado native. Rudd played for Nebraska from 2001-2004 before enjoying a seven-year NFL career, most of it spent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

All-Time Coaches Poll Preseason Top 25

Where do the Huskers land?

I remember when the preseason Coaches Poll Top 25 came out just before the start of the 2000 season. The Huskers were the preseason #1, and I couldn’t have been more excited. But, of course, the Huskers finished the year with a 10-2 record and ranked 7th by the Coaches. It’s been some time since Nebraska was ranked in the preseason, and who knows when that might change.

College Football News created a scoring system to chart an All-time Top 25 based and previous preseason rankings going back to 1978. So let’s look and see who the Coaches Poll has given the most love to over the years.

New list projects Nebraska and the Big Ten’s Bowl Games

Projections show a former Husker taking on his former team this postseason!

A new list is projecting bowl games for the 2022 season, so now seems like a good time to look and see where the Cornhuskers and its fellow Big Ten schools will be headed for the postseason. College Football News has worked hard to break down every bowl and then project the matchups for all 43 bowl game schedules. Nebraska is projected to make the postseason this year which would be a first under Head Coach Scott Frost and the first bowl game for the program since the 2016 Music City Bowl.

I’m not going to spoil the selected opponent for Nebraska other than saying that I’m all about the matchup. Of course, a bowl game alone would be excellent, but to play this team (one the Huskers have a history with) and this former Husker (I’m pretty sure you’ve put two and two together) would be an added cherry on top after a long postseason break for the Cornhuskers.

Take a look below to see where Nebraska and the rest of the Big Ten are projected.

Omaha high school kicker receives offer to walk on for Cornhuskers

Nebraska looks to improve its special teams with an offer to an in-state recruit.

An Omaha high school kicker received an offer from Nebraska to walk on in 2023. Millard South kicker/punter Simon McClannan received the offer from the Cornhusker’s coaching staff on Friday afternoon according to his social media. McClannan had previously visited Lincoln on June 4th when he kicked for special teams coach Bill Busch.

Busch is in his second year at Nebraska and is his first season as the special team’s coordinator. This is his third stint coaching at Nebraska, as he was a defensive assistant from 1990 to 1993 and was a secondary and special teams coordinator and secondary coach from 2004-2007. He had previously coached at LSU from 2018-2020, including the 2019 15-0 national championship team.

Currently, the Cornhuskers have no commits in the 2023 recruiting class dedicated to special teams, but most special team scholarships are not offered until after the recruit’s senior season.
