Former Cardinals DT Corey Peters announces retirement

Peters retires after a 13-year career. He spent seven of those with the Cardinals.

Former Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Corey Peters is calling it a career. He announced his decision to retire from the NFL on his social media platforms.

Peters wrote:

After much prayerful consideration I’ve decided to retire from the NFL. The last thirteen years have been incredible. I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to compete at the highest level of the game.

I must first and foremost give thanks to God for the talent he has given me, the opportunities he has provided for me. For always being by my side throughout this journey, which has at times been incredibly difficult.

I want to acknowledge my wife Genna-Gabrielle, who has been a rock for me. Thank you for being my biggest supporter, for being there for me through heartbreak and injury. Thank you for your love.

I owe my parents a debt of gratitude for having supported my aspirations long before we were aware of their viability. I can stand strong because of the foundation you’ve given me.

To the rest of my family and friends, thank you for taking this journey with me. I appreciate all of your encouragement and support.

A special thank you to the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars for being a vital part of making my dreams come true.

I feel privileged to have lined up next to my teammates. My most valuable possession is the memories we’ve created together. Please know that I am your brother for life and that it was an immense privilege to compete with you.

Sincerely, I never imagined that I would continue playing football professionally for this long. I’ll always be appreciative of the time I’ve had, but now is the time to take on a fresh challenge. I’m not sure what’s coming up, but I’m excited to see where life takes me!

Peters played 13 years in the NFL, seven of them for the Cardinals. He signed with Arizona in 2015 after five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He missed the 2015 season after he tore his Achilles that year in training camp.

In seven seasons with the Cardinals, he was a team captain and was a consistent producer on the field from the defensive interior.

He had 170 tackles and eight sacks in that.

Additionally, he did great community work in his time here.

He is no Hall of Famer but he had a fantastic career.

We can’t wait to see what’s next for him.

Former Jaguars DT Corey Peters announces retirement

Corey Peters, who spent most of the 2022 season with the Jaguars, announced his retirement Thursday.

Veteran defensive tackle Corey Peters, who spent the majority of the 2022 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is retiring from professional football.

Peters, 34, announced the decision Thursday in a lengthy post on social media that thanked the Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals “for being a vital part of making my dreams come true.”

Peters began his career with the Falcons after he was picked in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons in Atlanta before signing with the Cardinals as a free agent in 2015.

The Jaguars added Peters to their practice squad in September 2022, but he was only there for a month before he was promoted to the active roster in October. He appeared in 12 games for Jacksonville and started three.

Peters was especially valuable in the Jaguars’ regular season finale against the Tennessee Titans when he recorded two tackles for loss and was the team’s third highest graded player on defense by Pro Football Focus. He became a free agent last month.

In 12 NFL seasons, Peters recorded 19 sacks and 55 tackles for loss.

Jaguars activate DL Corey Peters with Foley Fatukasi injured

The Jaguars elevated 335-pound defensive lineman Corey Peters from the practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars added a run stuffer to the active roster Saturday by elevating veteran defensive lineman Corey Peters from the practice squad.

Peters, 34, is in his 12th NFL season after previously spending five years with the Atlanta Falcons and six with the Arizona Cardinals. In September, he was added to the Jaguars practice squad.

The Jaguars may need for Peters to see significant action in Week 5 with starting defensive lineman Folorunso Fatukasi dealing with a quad injury. With Fatukasi playing just 16 snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Jaguars defense allowed 210 rushing yards on 50 attempts.

With Fatukasi ruled out on Sunday, the Jaguars are in need of size up front on defense and Peters is listed by the team at 335 pounds. Fatukasi is listed at 318 pounds and Adam Gotsis is the heaviest of the other backup defensive linemen on the depth chart at 287 pounds.

“Corey’s going to be able to step in,” Jaguars defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot said Thursday, via 1010XL’s Mia O’Brien. “He’s a vet, he’s been in the league forever. We’re not going to take a step back, we’ll just move forward.”

Peters has started 132 NFL games and has 50 career tackles for loss with 19 sacks.

Jaguars reportedly bring in veteran DT Corey Peters for visit

The Jaguars are in need of depth in the middle of their defensive line and may have found a solution in Corey Peters.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are woefully thin in the middle of their defensive line, but may have a solution in veteran tackle Corey Peters.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, Peters visited with the Jaguars ahead of the team’s regular season opener against the Washington Commanders.

Peters, 34, spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons after he was picked in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. In 2015, he joined the Arizona Cardinals where he played until reaching free agency earlier this year.

In Jacksonville, Peters would be reunited with first-year defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, who spent the last two seasons as the Cardinals’ defensive line coach.

Peters was listed last season at 6’3, 335 pounds and would add serious beef to the Jaguars line. Starting nose tackle DaVon Hamilton is listed by the Jaguars as 6’4, 320 pounds, making him the heaviest player on the team’s defense. Hamilton is currently the only nose tackle on the team’s depth chart.

7 players that could make sense for Cardinals to sign before training camp

The Cardinals could use help at cornerback, center, nose tackle and outside linebacker. These veterans would make sense for the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals will open training camp in about three weeks and could make some roster moves before then. General manager Steve Keim is well known for his late veteran additions.

Here are a few moves the Cardinals could make in veteran free agent additions that would make a lot of sense.

3 players who still could re-sign with Cardinals

Here are three free agents the Cardinals could bring back from last season.

With training camp set to start next month, the Arizona Cardinals will continue to monitor ways to improve the roster before September’s home opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

General manager Steve Keim has made many late-offseason additions that ended up being major contributors to the team. Some of those have been bringing back some of their own free agents.

Who could the Cardinals still bring back from last season that would make sense at this point?

Cardinals activate DT Corey Peters from COVID list

His return will be a boost to the run defense.

The Arizona Cardinals get a key defensive lineman back, but it is a little late. The team announced it activated defensive tackle Corey Peters from the COVID list. To make room for him, they released offensive lineman Zack Johnson, whom they signed from the practice squad on Thursday.

Peters probably was not in condition to be able to play and contribute Thursday, but his presence will help mitigate the loss of J.J. Watt, who suffered multiple injuries to his shoulder.

He has a very good run defender and will help shore up their troubles in that area on defense.

Another Cardinals player out against Browns due to COVID-19

Arizona will be down one more for today’s matchup with the Browns as a defensive lineman tested positive for COVID-19:

The Cleveland Browns and Arizona Cardinals are just hours away from kicking off but the news continues to trickle out in advance of the game.

As the week has gone on, we have learned the following related to players being out for today’s game:

  • Cardinals edge rusher Chandler Jones was likely out, then later out, due to a COVID-19 positive test
  • Cardinals center Rodney Hudson out due to an injury
  • Browns running back Nick Chubb out due to an injury
  • Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and two other coaches are out due to COVID-19 positive tests
  • Browns starting tackles Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin are likely out due to injuries.

Now comes news that the Cardinals, now in more intensive COVID protocols, will be missing another player. Defensive lineman Corey Peters will miss the game as he was placed on the COVID-19 list on Sunday. Peters is Arizona’s backup nose tackle.

Peters has only played in 106 snaps for the Cardinals defense this year but has graded 72.6 as a tackler and 62.5 in pass rush according to Pro Football Focus.

The Cardinals have elevated Jonathan Ledbetter from their practice squad to take Peters’ place. Ledbetter has only played in one game in the NFL, 2019 for the Miami Dolphins, as a rookie.

Unless something unforeseen occurs in the next two hours, the Arizona COVID related issues for Week 6, but not beyond, should be put to rest with the Peters news.

DT Corey Peter is latest to test positive for COVID-19, will miss game vs. Browns

The Cardinals now have three players and two coaches who will miss the game against the Browns because of a positive test for COVID-19.

The Arizona Cardinals will be without another player because of a positive test for COVID-19. They are already without linebacker Chandler Jones and defensive end Zach Allen, and coaches Kliff Kingsbury and Cam Turner, plus general manager Steve Keim are not with the team because of positive tests.

The latest is veteran defensive tackle Corey Peters. The team announced he was placed on the COVID list. He will not play against the Cleveland Browns.

Replacing him on the roster is defensive lineman Jonathan Ledbetter.

This gives the Cardinals six defensive linemen on the roster — Ledbetter, J.J. Watt, Leki Fotu, Rashard Lawrence, Michael Dogbe and Jordan Phillips, who was activated off injured reserve this week.

The return of Phillips is huge. He is supposed to be one of their best interior defenders but missed the first five games of the year with a back injury that also sidelined him for almost all of training camp.

He will likely be in the starting lineup with Watt, as well as Lawrence, if they open the game in a base defense.

The Cardinals will release their inactive list in a little more than an hour from now.
