Jaguars announce bevy of personnel staff additions, promotions

The Jaguars announced a bevy of moves within their personnel department Monday, formalizing nine staff additions and eight promotions involving football administration, scouting, player and personnel relations, and player engagement.

Jacksonville hired Tom Gamble as senior personnel executive; Chris Ash as a pro scout; Corey Peters and Josh Scobey (not to be confused with former Jaguars kicker Josh Scobee) as college scouts; Mimi Bolden-Morris, Austin Leake and Max Rosenthal as scouting assistants; Tara Goolsby as player finance and football administration assistant; and Savannah Reier as manager of player and personnel relations.

Gamble and Ash‘s appointments had previously been reported.

A 13-year NFL defensive lineman, Peters finished his playing career with the Jaguars in 2022 and is now embarking on a career in scouting, of note.

The Jaguars promoted John Stevenson to assistant director of college scouting; Ryan Stamper to national scout; Jason DesJarlais to pro scout; Holden McAbee, Antonio Robinson, Mickeel Stewart and Tyler Walker to college scouting roles; and Nikki Donoff to player engagement manager.

98 days till the Cardinals’ season opener vs. Bills

The last impactful No. 98 for the Cardinals was Corey Peters.

The Arizona Cardinals are 98 days away from their 2024 season opener. On September 8, 14 weeks from today, a Sunday, the Cardinals will face the Buffalo Bills on the road.

With 98 days left till the opener, who was the last impactful No. 98?

No. 98 now belongs to defensive lineman Roy Lopez, who joined the Cardinals last season and is back for 2024. He played in 14 games, started five and had 42 total tackles. But he wouldn’t be what you could call super impactful.

The last impactful No. 98 was Corey Peters.

Peters has since retired from the NFL after 13 seasons. He spent seven with the Cardinals from 2015-2021. He tore his Achilles in 2015 in training camp and missed that full season.

But he was a stalwart on the defensive line and a great leader in the locker room. He was a great run defender and also had a few sacks, eight in total in his time in Arizona.

Here’s to No. 98 Corey Peters with 98 days till the Cardinals open the season.

Former Cardinals DT Corey Peters announces retirement

Peters retires after a 13-year career. He spent seven of those with the Cardinals.

Former Arizona Cardinals defensive lineman Corey Peters is calling it a career. He announced his decision to retire from the NFL on his social media platforms.

Peters wrote:

After much prayerful consideration I’ve decided to retire from the NFL. The last thirteen years have been incredible. I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to compete at the highest level of the game.

I must first and foremost give thanks to God for the talent he has given me, the opportunities he has provided for me. For always being by my side throughout this journey, which has at times been incredibly difficult.

I want to acknowledge my wife Genna-Gabrielle, who has been a rock for me. Thank you for being my biggest supporter, for being there for me through heartbreak and injury. Thank you for your love.

I owe my parents a debt of gratitude for having supported my aspirations long before we were aware of their viability. I can stand strong because of the foundation you’ve given me.

To the rest of my family and friends, thank you for taking this journey with me. I appreciate all of your encouragement and support.

A special thank you to the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars for being a vital part of making my dreams come true.

I feel privileged to have lined up next to my teammates. My most valuable possession is the memories we’ve created together. Please know that I am your brother for life and that it was an immense privilege to compete with you.

Sincerely, I never imagined that I would continue playing football professionally for this long. I’ll always be appreciative of the time I’ve had, but now is the time to take on a fresh challenge. I’m not sure what’s coming up, but I’m excited to see where life takes me!

Peters played 13 years in the NFL, seven of them for the Cardinals. He signed with Arizona in 2015 after five seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. He missed the 2015 season after he tore his Achilles that year in training camp.

In seven seasons with the Cardinals, he was a team captain and was a consistent producer on the field from the defensive interior.

He had 170 tackles and eight sacks in that.

Additionally, he did great community work in his time here.

He is no Hall of Famer but he had a fantastic career.

We can’t wait to see what’s next for him.

Former Jaguars DT Corey Peters announces retirement

Corey Peters, who spent most of the 2022 season with the Jaguars, announced his retirement Thursday.

Veteran defensive tackle Corey Peters, who spent the majority of the 2022 season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, is retiring from professional football.

Peters, 34, announced the decision Thursday in a lengthy post on social media that thanked the Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, and Arizona Cardinals “for being a vital part of making my dreams come true.”

Peters began his career with the Falcons after he was picked in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He spent five seasons in Atlanta before signing with the Cardinals as a free agent in 2015.

The Jaguars added Peters to their practice squad in September 2022, but he was only there for a month before he was promoted to the active roster in October. He appeared in 12 games for Jacksonville and started three.

Peters was especially valuable in the Jaguars’ regular season finale against the Tennessee Titans when he recorded two tackles for loss and was the team’s third highest graded player on defense by Pro Football Focus. He became a free agent last month.

In 12 NFL seasons, Peters recorded 19 sacks and 55 tackles for loss.

Jaguars activate DL Corey Peters with Foley Fatukasi injured

The Jaguars elevated 335-pound defensive lineman Corey Peters from the practice squad.

The Jacksonville Jaguars added a run stuffer to the active roster Saturday by elevating veteran defensive lineman Corey Peters from the practice squad.

Peters, 34, is in his 12th NFL season after previously spending five years with the Atlanta Falcons and six with the Arizona Cardinals. In September, he was added to the Jaguars practice squad.

The Jaguars may need for Peters to see significant action in Week 5 with starting defensive lineman Folorunso Fatukasi dealing with a quad injury. With Fatukasi playing just 16 snaps against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Jaguars defense allowed 210 rushing yards on 50 attempts.

With Fatukasi ruled out on Sunday, the Jaguars are in need of size up front on defense and Peters is listed by the team at 335 pounds. Fatukasi is listed at 318 pounds and Adam Gotsis is the heaviest of the other backup defensive linemen on the depth chart at 287 pounds.

“Corey’s going to be able to step in,” Jaguars defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot said Thursday, via 1010XL’s Mia O’Brien. “He’s a vet, he’s been in the league forever. We’re not going to take a step back, we’ll just move forward.”

Peters has started 132 NFL games and has 50 career tackles for loss with 19 sacks.

Jaguars reportedly bring in veteran DT Corey Peters for visit

The Jaguars are in need of depth in the middle of their defensive line and may have found a solution in Corey Peters.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are woefully thin in the middle of their defensive line, but may have a solution in veteran tackle Corey Peters.

According to Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, Peters visited with the Jaguars ahead of the team’s regular season opener against the Washington Commanders.

Peters, 34, spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons after he was picked in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. In 2015, he joined the Arizona Cardinals where he played until reaching free agency earlier this year.

In Jacksonville, Peters would be reunited with first-year defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, who spent the last two seasons as the Cardinals’ defensive line coach.

Peters was listed last season at 6’3, 335 pounds and would add serious beef to the Jaguars line. Starting nose tackle DaVon Hamilton is listed by the Jaguars as 6’4, 320 pounds, making him the heaviest player on the team’s defense. Hamilton is currently the only nose tackle on the team’s depth chart.

Cardinals activate DT Corey Peters from COVID list

His return will be a boost to the run defense.

The Arizona Cardinals get a key defensive lineman back, but it is a little late. The team announced it activated defensive tackle Corey Peters from the COVID list. To make room for him, they released offensive lineman Zack Johnson, whom they signed from the practice squad on Thursday.

Peters probably was not in condition to be able to play and contribute Thursday, but his presence will help mitigate the loss of J.J. Watt, who suffered multiple injuries to his shoulder.

He has a very good run defender and will help shore up their troubles in that area on defense.
