Connor Winn talks about his Rutgers football visit: ‘Saturday made me more excited about Rutgers’

Rutgers football recruit Connor Winn talks his recent visit.

On Saturday, Connor Winn took his first visit to Rutgers football since being offered over the summer. The Florida tight end is a freshman and is already off to a strong season.

Winn is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound tight end from Bartram Trail High School (St. John’s, Florida). He was offered this summer by Rutgers following his participation in a camp this summer.

It was his first Power Five offer and Winn has only backed that up with his performances this season.

In his varsity debut this past August, he had over 200 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

This past weekend, Winn took a visit to Rutgers. He saw the Scarlet Knights overcome an 18-point deficit for a 27-24 win over Michigan State.

“Overall it was a great time and game, and it was really cool getting to see the players and coaches celebrating the win,” Winn told Rutgers Wire.

“It definitely felt like football weather out there today and I was impressed on how they fought back in the fourth quarter in spite of the conditions.”

Prior to his visit, Winn had talked to Rutgers Wire about his impressions of head coach Greg Schiano and tight ends coach Andrew Aurich. It is still early in the process, and contact is limited, but Winn said he is developing a good relationship with the coaching staff at Rutgers.

That continued on Saturday during his visit.

“I don’t think myself nor my family could have any higher respect than we do for this staff. And Rutgers as a school has such a great balance between high-level football and high-level academics,” Winn said.

“I got to speak to coach Schiano and coach Aurich personally, and even though this process is all new to me, they made me feel very comfortable and gave me good advice. I really appreciate the opportunity they are giving me to continue to build on the relationship and Saturday made more excited about Rutgers.”

Because his team is vying for a state title, Winn won’t be taking any visits anywhere during the football season.

Class of 2027 tight end Connor Winn previews Rutgers football visit

Connor Winn previews his upcoming Rutgers football visit.

Though he may be a freshman in high school, there is little doubt that Connor Winn is going to blossom into a legitimate Power Five project with double-digit offers. Already, this summer, Winn was offered by Rutgers football.

And on Saturday, Winn will be back on campus to check in with Rutgers (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten) for their game against Michigan State (2-3, 1-2 Big Ten).

Winn is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound tight end from Bartram Trail High School (St. John’s, Florida). He was offered this summer by Rutgers following his participation in a camp.

That he was offered prior to his freshman year underscores his talent level. And now on Saturday, Winn will be on campus for the first time since he was offered by the Scarlet Knights.

“Since the visit in the summer, have really been looking forward to getting back up there for a game,” Winn told Rutgers Wire.

“Being a freshman, communication is really restricted with what’s allowed with the staff, so this weekend will be the first chance to really catch up.”

Winn has had a strong season to date, including his varsity debut in the season opener where he had 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

The Bears are currently 3-3 on the season.

“On a personal level, the season so far has been a great learning experience. I’m getting a lot of meaningful playing time every week at the varsity level, playing one of the toughest schedules in the state of Florida,” Winn said.

“I have multiple touchdowns and have made multiple long plays in the passing game. And just as importantly I have been able to see what parts of my game I need to work on. As a team , we have played good ball, but not our best yet. Key injuries have played a big part in that. With that being said, we are 1-0 in the District and all of our goals are still in front of us. We will be battle-tested and want to be peaking as we head into the playoffs.”

Saturday’s visit will be an important one for Winn as he starts to build an early relationship with Rutgers and the coaching staff, including tight ends coach Andrew Aurich.

He hopes to get a sense of the atmosphere and excitement around the game.

“To get a good feel for the game day atmosphere,” Winn said.

“Playing in front of a large, excited crowd is one of the factors that I am taking into consideration.”

Class of 2027 tight end from Jacksonville set to visit Rutgers

Connor Winn is expected to visit Rutgers football this weekend.

Connor Winn is scheduled to be on campus on Saturday at Rutgers football. as the Florida tight end continues his relationship with the Big Ten program

In July, Rutgers football became the first Power Five offer for Winn. He is a member of the 2027 class who checks in at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds.

Winn plays for Bartram Trail High School (Jacksonville, Florida).

On Saturday, Rutgers football (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten) hosts Michigan State (2-3, 0-2 Big Ten) for a noon kickoff at SHI Stadium. The game will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network.

Despite being a freshman, he is already turning in some strong performances. In his varsity debut, he had over 200 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

The recruitment process with Rutgers began in June. After his offer this summer, Winn told Rutgers Wire how things originally started with the Scarlet Knights and tight ends coach Andrew Aurich:

“In June, I went to a mega camp at South Florida. Coach Aurich was a coach in attendance and was watching and helping me through the drills,” Winn told Rutgers Wire in July.

“After the camp, he invited me up to Rutgers for a visit. Towards the end of my visit on campus, I had a conversation with coach Schiano and that’s when I received my offer.”

Aurich is the longest-tenured assistant on the Rutgers staff, having been brought in by head coach Greg Schiano four years ago. His relationship with the Rutgers head coach is a deep one, having spent four seasons in the NFL on Schiano’s staff with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Class of 2027 (that’s right!) recruit Connor Winn talks Rutgers football visit and offer

Connor Winn talks about his recent Rutgers football visit.

Late in July, Connor Winn was offered by Rutgers football. It was the first Power Five offer for Winn, who has yet to play a snap of varsity football.

That’s because Winn just graduated from the eighth grade.

It is certainly a very impressive start to Winn’s high school career, earning a Big Ten offer before even his first game at the high school level. Winn, from Jacksonville, FL, checks in at an impressive 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds.

The class of 2027 recruit was first spotted this summer by Rutgers tight ends coach Andrew Aurich.

“In June, I went to a mega camp at South Florida. Coach Aurich was a coach in attendance and was watching and helping me through the drills,” Winn told Rutgers Wire.

“After the camp, he invited me up to Rutgers for a visit. Towards the end of my visit on campus, I had a conversation with coach Schiano and that’s when I received my offer.”

Aurich is in his fourth season at Rutgers. He spent two years in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then at Princeton, his alma mater, where he was the offensive line coach then offensive coordinator) before joining Schiano’s staff. Last year, he was the team’s running backs coach.

The cool factor certainly isn’t lost on Winn to have received his first college offer, let alone from a Power Five program, before the start of his freshman year.

“It’s a really cool experience to have a Power Five offer at this stage. It makes me feel like all the hard work I’ve been putting in is paying off,” Winn said. “I’m motivated now more than ever to go out and have a great season.”

After his visit in late July, Winn feels a relationship forming with Rutgers. He plans on visiting the program this fall.

“I feel very comfortable with them on both a football and personal level. Everyone was very welcoming. Coach Schiano’s resume speaks for itself and coach Aurich has been great,” Winn said.

“I really enjoyed working with him.”

Winn said that South Florida, Central Florida and Toledo have been recruiting him as well.

Connor Winn is offered by Rutgers football over the weekend.

Connor Winn, a class of 2027 tight end from Florida, was offered by Rutgers football over the weekend.

Despite being in middle school, Winn is already 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. He also plays defensive end. In addition, Winn plays basketball.

Winn, from Jacksonville, FL, posted on X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter), about his offer from the Big Ten program. In announcing the offer, Winn tagged Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano and tight ends coach Andrew Aurich.

After playing at Princeton as a tight end, Aurich spent time in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then back at Princeton (as offensive line coach then offensive coordinator) before joining Schiano’s staff. Last year, he was the team’s running backs coach.

Winn is already looking to be in the mold of a Big Ten tight end, with a strong frame and a good radius. He does well in securing contested catches.
