How much did Texas A&M rise in the US LBM Coaches Poll after Week 6?

Texas A&M received a much-deserved bump after destroying Missouri

Texas A&M (5-1, 3-0 SEC) looks like one of the best teams in the conference after demolishing Missouri (4-1, 1-1 SEC) 41-10 on Saturday afternoon.

Behind the return of quarterback Conner Weigman, who had missed the last three games due to a shoulder injury, was lights out as soon as the first snap. Behind 236 yards and five touchdowns on the ground, Weigman completed an efficient 18/22 for 276 yards.

Defensively, the Aggies limited the Tigers to just 186 passing yards and a pedestrian 68 yards rushing, as Missouri quarterback Brady Cook had zero answers for what Texas A&M DC Jay Bateman threw his way.

Sitting atop the SEC with a 3-0 conference record, the chaos that followed A&M’s win included No. 1-ranked Alabama falling to Vanderbilt on the road, while Tennessee fell to Arkansas just hours after.

Entering the bye week, Texas A&M looks like a playoff contender again, shooting up the newest US LBM Coaches Poll rankings.

Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman earned impressive PFF grade against Missouri

Conner Weigman was borderline perfect against the Tigers

Texas A&M (5-1, 3-0 SEC) enters the first of two bye weeks this season just a day after demolishing the 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers 41-10 on Saturday afternoon, led by the return of quarterback Conner Weigman, who had missed the last three games.

After returning to practice last week, head coach Mike Elko was coy regarding Weigman’s potential return to the lineup. Backup quarterback Marcel Reed earned a perfect 3-0 record in his absence. However, his accuracy in the pocket had become an issue in the last two games.

Listed as a game-time decision, Weigman was seen throwing with the first-team offense, as Elko revealed just minutes before kickoff that the redshirt sophomore would start his first game in nearly a month, leading to one of his best performances of the year.

Looking supremely confident from the first snap, Weigman’s footwork resulted in several impressive NFL-level throws in tight windows. At the same time, the deep pass was finally utilized to perfection to pick up chunk gains and open up the running game.

While he didn’t throw a touchdown pass, running backs Le’Veon Moss and Amari Daniels did enough on the ground in the red zone to produce all five Aggie touchdowns, as Weigman finished 18/22 for 276 yards, completing 82% of his passes. Per Pro Football Focus, Weigman earned a team-high 86.7 offensive grade, including an 88.6 passing grade, ranked top-10 nationally in Week 6.

Interestingly, Weigman utilized his legs more than expected, running for 33 yards on five carries and earning a notable 70.3 run grade.

With the bye week approaching, Elko and his staff will focus on recruiting. At the same time, Weigman and the rest of the roster will rest and recuperate ahead of the second half of the season, starting with a Week 8 road matchup against Mississippi State.

Texas A&M HC MIke Elko was fired up in his defense of QB Conner Weigman

Mike Elko did not hold back

Texas A&M’s (5-1, 3-0 SEC) 41-10 blowout victory over the 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers was one for the record books, as head coach Mike Elko and his squad are the first Aggie team to reach 3-0 in SEC play wince 2016, and defeat a top-15 ranked team since 2012.

Just minutes before kickoff, it was reported that redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman, who had missed the previous three games due to an ongoing shoulder injury, would return to the starting lineup, which surprised most of us in the media and the fan base.

However, from a skillset perspective, Weigman’s NFL-like arm talent opened up the playbook in the passing game while providing the Aggies the best chance to win after QB Marcel Reed’s recent accuracy issues, especially downfield.

As soon as the offense took the field, Weigman was outstanding, looking like the player we all anticipated seeing before the start of the season. Completing 18/22 for 276 yards, Weigman completed 82% of his passes for over 12 yards per completion, while his footwork, accuracy, and throwing touch were impressive throughout the afternoon.

Due to his excellence in the pocket, the running game racked up 236 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground as the Aggies completely rattled the Tigers for their first loss of the year.

After the game, head coach Mike Elko, fiery as all get out, was asked about Weigman’s memorable performance. The first-year head coach didn’t hold back when referencing the signal caller’s recent critics during his shoulder rehab over the last month.

“Some of the stuff that has been said about this kid and written about this kid … is embarrassing. … There are a lot of people right now who need to stand up and recognize what they’ve said over the last three weeks and take some f***ing ownership.”

While I won’t get into specifics, part of our job as reporters is tracking fan reactions to player struggles or injuries, which sometimes results in false rumors on social media. However, Elko was also calling out some in the national media.

In Weigman’s case, credit the young signal caller for ignoring those who either fairly or unfairly criticized him during his absence, as his impressive performance should eliminate most of the remaining doubt.

Watch Texas A&M’s punter Tyler White’s incredible punt before halftime vs. Missouri

Here’s some punter content amid Texas A&M’s 24-0 halftime lead over Missouri

Texas A&M’s Week 6 matchup vs. Missouri is off to a solid start for the Aggies, currently holding a 24-0 halftime lead over the visiting Tigers, as redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman surprisingly made his first start in nearly a month.

Returning to practice this week, Weigman looked like his old self from the first snap, as his footwork, accuracy, and throwing touch were beyond impressive, completing 15/19 for 193 yards while running back Amari Daniels recorded two of the team’s three touchdowns so far.

Defensively, the Aggies shut down the Tigers, allowing just 63 yards through the air and 16 yards on the ground at the half.

However, Texas A&M freshman punter Tyler White’s second-half punt with just seconds remaining was one of the best kicks you’ll see all year, as the former 4-star punter perfectly placed the ball inside the one-yard line and perfectly rolled out of bounds.

This was also Texas A&M’s first punt of the game, as the Aggies scored a touchdown or field goal on every previous drive.

Saints among 10 teams with scouts at Texas A&M vs. Missouri

The New Orleans Saints were among 10 teams with scouts at Texas A&M’s game with Missouri on Saturday. Who could they have been scouting?

There’s always a strong contingent of NFL scouts at Kyle Field, but the New Orleans Saints were in that number for Saturday’s matchup between Texas A&M and Missouri, per Joey Van Zummeren at Missouri Tigers on SI. Which 2025 draft prospects could the Saints have their eye on?

Defensive end/outside linebacker Nic Scourton is the top prospect for the Aggies, and he has the size the Saints covet at a listed 6-foot-4 and 285 pounds. Before transferring from Purdue he led the Big 10 in sacks (10) in 2023, and he’s seen as a sure thing for the first round. His teammates along the defensive interior, Shemar Stewart and Shemar Turner, are also likely to be picked early next year, and quarterback Conner Weigman is high on some draft boards, too.

But the best prospect in the game was wide receiver Luther Burden. A potential first overall pick in his own right, Burden broke out with 85 receptions for 1,212 yards and scored 9 touchdowns last year, and he’s since picked up where he left off with four scores in as many games. Right tackle  Armand Membou has an NFL future, too, and his matchup with Scourton could do a lot to impact his draft stock.

Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman will start vs. Missouri

The redshirt sophomore is back in the starting lineup vs. Missouri

It has been confirmed by Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko that redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman will start vs. Missouri, which is his first appearance as the Aggies’ starting signal caller since A&M’s Week 2 win over McNeese.

This week, Weigman made his way back to practice amid his right shoulder injury, as his rehab over the past month has led to the redshirt sophomore looking more comfortable as a thrower. In his absense, redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed has started the last three games, earning perfect 3-0 record, but has struggled with accuracy in the pocket.

Elko’s strategic communication plan regarding the change at quarterback won’t exactly give the Aggies an edge per say, as Weigman’s lack of play time, especially in SEC play this season could produce a rusty performance if he isn’t fully reacclimated to working through his progressions at a quick rate.

Notheless, Elko and his staff hope that Weigman’s arm talent and toughness leads the way againts the 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers.

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Could Conner Weigman start against Missouri?

Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0 SEC) will face the undefeated 9th-ranked Missouri Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) for an early 11:00 a.m. kickoff on Saturday afternoon. Aggies’ head coach Mike Elko continued to play coy regarding who will start at quarterback, with redshirt sophomore Conner Weigman returning to practice this week.

On Saturday morning, ESPN CFB insider Pete Thamel revealed that Weigman is healthy enough to play. At the same time, Elko pointed toward the signal caller, who could return to the starting lineup after missing the last three games.

However, according to the final SEC availability report, Weigman and starting right guard Ar’maj Reed-Adams are listed as game-time decisions just minutes before kickoff.

Only two players are listed as out for Missouri, defensive end Darris Smith and quarterback Sam Horn, while wide receiver Marquis Johnson is listed as questionable.

Overall, both teams entered the game with minor health concerns.

Initial SEC Week 6 Availability Report for Texas A&M vs Missouri

The injury reports have been updated for Texas A&M Aggies vs Missouri game on Saturday

The SEC announced before the season that every team must follow new guidelines when reporting player availability. The new guidelines are called the “Availability Report. “The teams must provide an initial injury report on Wednesday, followed by a daily update with the final report 90 minutes before the game.”

While the new reporting system is supposed to improve transparency across the league, some coaches aren’t buying it.

“I mean, at this point, I know on their depth chart, it says the other kid’s the starting quarterback, but that’s just semantics in my opinion” Drinkwitz stated. “The other guy’s 3-0 as the starter, and whether he’s listed as questionable or whatever, I don’t see them going back.”

“They cleary have a different offensive identity when this guy is their quarterback and they’ve built an offense that fits around his system.”

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

Below, you can find Wednesday’s injury report:

Texas A&M injury report:

OUT:

  • Rueben Owens – RB (Out for the season)
  • Mark Nabou – OL (Out for the season)

  • Ar’maj Reed-Adams – OL
  • Conner Weigman – QB

Missouri injury report:

Texas A&M HC Mike Elko provides update on QB Conner Weigman’s injury status

Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman has returned to practice in limited fashion

Texas A&M (4-1, 2-0 SEC) will face the Missouri Tigers (4-0, 1-0 SEC) in a critical Week 6 conference clash on Saturday afternoon, as the Aggies are coming off a close 21-17 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 5, while the Tigers are coming off a bye week.

On Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko made his weekly appearance on the SEC Teleconference. He provided several injury updates, including a preview of the game and what Missouri presents offensively and defensively. Concerning quarterback Conner Weigman, who has missed the last three games due to his shoulder injury, the redshirt sophomore returned to practice this week.

However, any rumors regarding a full return while working with the first-team offense this week aren’t fact-based. Elko stated that Weigman was “out there and functioning a little bit more” and will continue to be a game-time decision before facing Missouri.

Over the past three games, redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed has thrown for 585 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions while rushing for 230 yards and two scores. Reed is 3-0 as the Aggies’ starter, and another win could solidify his standing as Texas A&M’s starting quarterback, pending Weigman’s full return and the coaching staff’s ultimate decision.

Texas A&M will host Missouri on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11:00 a.m. CT. The game will air on ABC and will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
