CFB analyst says Georgia will ‘boat race’ Alabama in SEC championship

Danny Kannell doesn’t think the Tide has what it takes to keep up with the Dawgs in Atlanta.

Alabama, though inconsistent, has improved throughout the 2023 regular season and played themselves into the College Football Playoff conversation despite a Week 2 loss to Texas at home. The Tide earned the right to face top-ranked Georgia in the SEC championship, but one analyst believes the Dawgs will send the Crimson Tide home disappointed.

National college football show host and pundit, Danny Kannell, took to social media to exclaim that he believes Georgia will “boat race” Alabama in the conference title game. Kannell, who won a national championship in 1993 with Florida State as the backup to Charlie Ward, also boasted about a bet he placed on Georgia to cover a four-point spread.

Alabama and Georgia are no strangers to meeting in the postseason. The most recent meeting was in the national championship for the 2021 season, which was won by the Bulldogs. However, it is worth mentioning that just a few weeks before that game, those two teams met in the SEC championship and Alabama got the win. Interestingly enough, that was the most recent loss suffered by Kirby Smart’s team.

As an outspoken fan and alum, it’s interesting to see how interested Kannell is in other conference title games outside of the ACC, especially considering the Seminoles are only favored by less than a field goal over Louisville. However, his defense of undefeated Florida State in these trying times without Jordan Travis is admirable.

Sunday morning, following the conclusion of rivalry week, Kannell posted a video to social media that stated Florida State “looked the part” against Florida, but that nearly all other playoff hopefuls did not.

Yes, Georgia is favored to win over Alabama and the team from Athens ranks slightly higher in most statistical categories, but I’m not sure if most people are expecting a blowout win in this contest. Kannell believes this one won’t be close.

For now, all we can do is sit back and wait for this de facto College Football Playoff quarterfinal to take place. Come Saturday evening, it’s likely that one of these two teams, if not both, will be on the outside looking in when the committee reveals their final playoff rankings.

Results from 2023 men’s conference championships across the country.

Conference championship season is underway in men’s college golf, with all roads leading to the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, in May.

Teams who win their conference titles score an Automatic Qualifying spot in NCAA Regionals, which is a big deal for any team that might find itself on the bubble for an at-large postseason selection. A win earns a postseason spot and gets you closer to a spot in the NCAA Championship.

Conference championships are listed below along with date and venue, and we’ll continue to update the list with winners and storylines as tournaments wrap up.

Big 12, AT&T Stadium agree to 2-year extension to host conference title game

AT&T Stadium and the Big 12 conference agreed on a two-year extension to keep the conference title game in Arlington through 2025.

AT&T Stadium and the Big 12 have agreed to extend on a contract extension that will keep the conference title game in Arlington, Texas, through the 2025 season.

The home of the Dallas Cowboys has been the host of the Big 12 championship game for each of the last seven title games dating back to 2009 and 2010 before conference realignment eliminated the need for a conference championship game, or so the Big 12 thought at the time.

Reinstated back in 2017, the Oklahoma Sooners were staples of the Big 12 championship from 2017 to 2020, where they won four straight games in AT&T Stadium to stretch their run of conference championships to six.

AT&T Stadium has become an important landmark in neutral site games since its opening in 2009, regularly hosting big nonconference matchups, Big 12 title games, the Cotton Bowl, and College Football Playoff national championship games. In 2021, the Arkansas Razorbacks and Texas A&M Aggies played their SEC matchup in AT&T stadium as part of the Southwest Classic, a throwback to the two teams’ days in the old Southwest Conference.

A Georgia fan brought the perfect sign to ESPN’s College GameDay set ahead of their game against Alabama

This sign deserves to be in somebody’s Hall of Fame

It’s Conference Championship Saturday in the college football world and you know exactly what that means.

Fans are going to be going a little crazy today. There will be a lot of back and forth going between rival sides today. And one of the matchups everyone is looking forward to today — both on and off the field — is Georgia vs. Alabama.

The two teams don’t play until 4 p.m. ET, but their fans are already getting the festivities popping.

A Georgia fan brought an absolutely brilliant sign to the set of ESPN’s College Gameday to troll Alabama fans. It’s one of those things that takes a little while to click, but once you get it you realize it’s good. Really good.

The sign had a picture of a MARTA bus with the Georgia logo on it driving in front of the Crimson Tide logo.

That doesn’t make sense initially…until you remember the bus that drove in front of the Georgia Dome during its demolition. It completely blocked the camera’s view and stole the show.

This was so perfect, man. Bravo to the Georgia fan that thought of this. I don’t know if there’s a Hall of Fame for trash talk signs, but if there is this one needs to be in there.
