Colton Hood credits first college interception to hard work

Colton Hood broke down the biggest play of his young career

Last weekend, the Colorado Buffaloes lost a dominant player on both sides of the ball when Travis Hunter went down with an injury against the Kansas State Wildcats. But thanks to the hard work of a freshman corner, the secondary came up with a big play in the fourth quarter.

Redshirt freshman Colton Hood, a transfer from the Auburn Tigers, picked off K-State quarterback Avery Johnson and nearly returned it for a pick-six. If Hood continues to develop, we can expect to see more big plays from the young defensive back moving forward.

On Wednesday, Hood met with the media and was asked about his first college interception:

It felt great,” Hood said. “Just know I’ve been working my butt off all camp, all season trying to get on the field and making the most out of the opportunities I get. Being able to get out there (and) make a play like that for my team, it was surreal, my first college interception. I plan to keep it rolling, keep getting better.

Newcomers Cordale Russell, Colton Hood reveal Colorado uniform numbers

Incoming transfers Cordale Russell and Colton Hood revealed the uniform numbers they’ll be wearing

On their respective Instagram stories, incoming Colorado football transfers Cordale Russell and Colton Hood revealed the uniform numbers they’ll wear this upcoming season.

Russell, a redshirt freshman wide receiver who joins the Buffs via TCU, has been assigned jersey No. 15, also be worn by second-year CU punter Mark Vassett. During his lone season with the Horned Frogs, the former four-star prospect sported No. 1.

After wearing No. 24 throughout his one season with the Auburn Tigers, Hood will transition to No. 3. The 6-foot, 195-pound cornerback recorded three tackles in four games played at Auburn last year. His younger brother, Brandon, also recently joined the Buffs as an incoming freshman running back.

Colorado will likely have an offensive player sport No. 3 as well. Running back Dylan Edwards and cornerback Omarion Cooper, who both entered the transfer portal this spring, wore No. 3 last year.

Before transferring to Colorado, Colton Hood turned heads during Auburn’s spring practices

Before coming to Colorado, Colton Hood was tearing it up during Auburn’s spring practices

Before deciding to play his sophomore season alongside his brother at Colorado, cornerback Colton Hood was among the Auburn Tigers’ top defensive backs during their spring practices.

On3 national recruiting analyst Phillip Dukes recently spoke with Scott Procter of The Coloradoan to discuss the Auburn transfer and his decision to join head coach Deion Sanders in Boulder. Dukes mentioned Hood’s performance during Auburn’s spring practice season, saying:

“Colton Hood is a sleeper,” Dukes told Procter. “He was going to be the third cornerback at Auburn and a lot of people thought he should of been starting at Auburn over some really good talent that they have. Auburn has two NFL corners. He was right in the mix. He probably had the best spring of any defensive back at Auburn.”

After playing in four games last season with the Tigers, Hood’s strong spring at Auburn should bring great optimism to Colorado fans. If the up-and-coming cornerback’s impressive play continues, he could make some noise in the Buffs’ secondary next season.

Hood’s cousin, Trent, is a class of 2024 linebacker who committed to Colorado in May.

Fifth pair of siblings set to join Colorado’s roster

Another pair of siblings is joining Colorado’s roster

Another pair of siblings is joining the Colorado football team. On Sunday, the Buffaloes received commitments from Georgia natives Colton and Brandon Hood, as reported by On3.

Colton Hood heads to Boulder via Auburn, where he spent his freshman season with the Tigers, playing four games with three tackles before earning a redshirt. Coming out of Eagles Landing Christian Academy in Georgia, Hood was a three-star cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot, 195-pound defensive back did not have a transfer rating as of this writing. He joins the Buffs with four years of eligibility remaining.

Brandon Hood is a class of 2024 running back who previously committed to Georgia as a preferred walk-on. Also rated as a three-star prospect on 247Sports, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound RB brings a speed element to the position. He also saw time as a slot receiver and kick returner during his high school career.

Other brothers on Colorado’s roster include Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, Destin and Keaten Wade, Jaylen and LaJohntay Wester, and Kaleb and Kole Mathis.

Former Auburn defensive back Colton Hood transfers to Colorado

Former four-star recruit Colton Hood transferred from Auburn to Colorado on Sunday.

Former four-star recruit Colton Hood transferred from Auburn to Colorado on Sunday. The sophomore cornerback played just one season on the Plains, appearing in three games and recording 3 total tackles.

Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders has been active all offseason in the portal, securing one of the country’s best incoming transfer classes. While Hood may not become a starting player right away, it is feasible to see a path where the Conyers, GA native earns a significant amount of playing time.

Hood’s talents will certainly be missed for an Auburn team that will have an almost completely overhauled secondary in 2024 after losing key contributors like [autotag]D.J. James[/autotag], [autotag]Nehemiah Pritchett[/autotag], and [autotag]Jaylin Simpson[/autotag] to the NFL Draft. The 19-year-old’s departure does open up a chance for Alabama transfer [autotag]Antonio Kite[/autotag] to earn more reps in the secondary.

Hood’s brother, 2024 three-star running back Brandon Hood, will reportedly also join him on the Buffaloes roster next season.

Former Auburn CB schedules official visit to Colorado

One of Auburn’s recent transfer portal entries is set to visit Coach Prime and the Colorado Buffaloes this week.

After submitting his name into the transfer portal this week, one former Auburn defensive back is setting his sights out west.

[autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag], a three-star signee from Auburn’s 2023 recruiting haul, departed from the program this week to explore his options within the transfer portal. Programs are becoming interested, including one future Big 12 member. Hood tweeted Wednesday that he will be in Boulder on Thursday for his official visit to the University of Colorado.

Colorado is one of 10 programs officially departing the PAC 12 ahead of the 2024 football season, joining fellow members Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah in making the move. Head coach Deion Sanders will enter his second season as the leading man in Boulder and is looking to add top talent to make this season his most successful.

Hood was a significant signee from the 2023 class. He signed with Auburn as the No. 48 cornerback and the No. 45 overall recruit from Georgia. He competed in four games for the Tigers last season according to Pro Football Focus, totaling 44 snaps. He joined fellow 2023 signee Tyler Scott by entering the transfer portal this week. However, Scott has since changed course and will stay at Auburn.

Auburn loses a pair of cornerbacks to the transfer portal

Colton Hood and Tyler Scott depart after spending one season with the program.

Auburn football’s departing transfer portal class grew Tuesday as two young cornerbacks have elected to take their talents elsewhere.

[autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag] and [autotag]Tyler Scott[/autotag], a pair of cornerbacks who signed with Auburn’s 2023 recruiting class, announced Tuesday that they will be entering the transfer portal. The duo joins defensive lineman Brenton Williams, wide receiver Jay Fair, linebacker Wesley Steiner, and cornerback JD Rhym as spring transfer portal entries.

Hood, nephew of former Auburn cornerback Roderick Hood, joined Auburn’s 2023 class as a three-star according to 247Sports. The McDonough, Georgia native was the No. 48 cornerback and the No. 45 overall recruit from Georgia.

A fellow Georgian, Scott signed with Auburn as a safety before moving to cornerback this spring. He was the nation’s No. 20 cornerback and the No. 19 prospect from Georgia, signing with Auburn out of Pebblebrook High School in Mableton.

According to Pro Football Focus, Hood and Scott combined to play 53 snaps over five games. Hood saw the most action between the two by appearing in four games with 44 total snaps played.

There are now seven cornerbacks on Auburn’s roster following the departures of Hood and Scott. [autotag]Keionte Scott[/autotag] and [autotag]Kayin Lee[/autotag] headline the position as returners while [autotag]Antonio Kite[/autotag] joins the team as a transfer from Alabama.

Just two weeks after earning a scholarship offer from Auburn, three-star offensive tackle [autotag]Favour Edwin[/autotag] has scheduled an official visit to the Plains. The McDonough, Georgia product will be officially visiting on Sept. 29, according to a report from On3’s Jeffrey Lee.

Auburn is set to host the Georgia Bulldogs that weekend and it will be Edwin’s second time checking out Auburn.

He is the No. 906 overall player and No. 62 offensive tackle in the On3 Industry ranking. The 6-foot-8, 290-pounder is also the No. 102 player from Georgia.

Edwin and Auburn offensive line coach [autotag]Jake Thornton[/autotag] communicate frequently and he is looking forward to getting to know him better.

“He’s a great dude,” Edwin said of Thornton. “We talk about more than just football and that means a lot to me. Just being involved in my life and around people like that goes a long way with me. Life is about more than just football. I like Coach Thornton, for sure. He’s one of the guys I want to meet and talk to more when I go down there.”

Edwin won’t have to work hard if he wants to find out more about the Tigers, he was teammates with current Auburn cornerback [autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag] last season at Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy.

Auburn is still looking to land its first commitment along the offensive line in the 2024 recruiting cycle, however, that could change soon with key target DeAndre Carter set to commit on Sunday.

Auburn football assigns jersey numbers to early enrollees

Here’s a look at which 2023 signees are on campus, and what number they will wear this season.

Several of those famous “flips”, including [autotag]Keldric Faulk[/autotag] and [autotag]Connor Lew[/autotag], have arrived on campus and are currently going through spring practice. Auburn also has several players that will join the team in the summer including [autotag]Jeremiah Cobb[/autotag], [autotag]Sylvester Smith[/autotag], and [autotag]Colton Hood[/autotag].
