Colorado State at Texas odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Colorado State at Texas odds and lines, with college football expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado State Rams and Texas Longhorns open their 2024 NCAA football seasons Saturday at Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Colorado State vs. Texas odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

The Rams just missed out on bowl eligibility last season, finishing 5-7. Remember, it lost that epic 2-OT game at Colorado last Sept. 16. Colorado State also lost a 25-23 heartbreaker at UNLV on Oct. 21, while slipping up 27-24 at Hawaii in the season finale in another crushing loss in the final seconds.

The Colorado State defense improved dramatically as the season went along, and it returns 6 starters. On offense, the Rams get QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi back. He went for 3,460 passing yards and 22 TD in 2023, and he will pair with All-American WR Tory Horton for a solid pass-catch combo. RB Justin Marshall finished up strong, and he could be a solid piece of the offense, too.

For Texas, it heads to the SEC for the 2024 season. While this isn’t a conference game, it’s historic nonetheless.

Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers leads a stacked offense, as long as all of the incoming portal additions develop chemistry quickly. WR Isaiah Bond and TE Amari Niblack come over from Alabama, bolting after the Nick Saban retirement. WR Matthew Golden is an underrated add via the portal from Houston, too.

Texas has some questions on the defensive side of the football, and, again, it will rely upon transfer portal adds to fill holes.

Texas is No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll — conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports.

Colorado State at Texas picks and predictions

Prediction

Texas 41, Colorado State 17

Moneyline

Before it went off the board, Texas was at -10000, which would cost you 100 times your potential return, or a C-note for every $1 won. That’s a crazy amount of risk, and it should go without saying that it is a foolish bet not worth pursuing.

AVOID.

Against the spread

Take COLORADO STATE +32.5 (-110) with the points.

This Rams team is not a bad squad, and the defense should be significantly better than it was at the beginning of 2023. Of course, facing Texas -32.5 (-110) and the Heisman hopeful Ewers isn’t great news for a hot start.

Still, the Rams have some quality pieces on offense, and the chemistry between Fowler-Nicolosi and Horton should be able to generate some points in the 1st half.

The Rams aren’t likely to put the ‘Horns on upset alert, but don’t be surprised to see Colorado keep it within 4 TDs.

Over/Under

The UNDER 59.5 (-105) is the lean, but go with a half-unit play at best.

Generally, in Week 1, you don’t want to get too crazy with the bets anyway. It’s a feeling-out process on the field, but it’s the same thing at the betting window. Rather than reading, and seeing information on paper, we’re getting tangible, usable information for future weeks.

Anyway, Texas should be able to put up a healthy amount of points. The question is whether Colorado State is able to solve the Longhorns D. The Rams should get to at least teens on the scoreboard, but don’t look for much more than that.

First look: Colorado State vs. Texas odds and lines

Looking at Saturday’s Colorado State at Texas college football odds, lines and trends. Here’s what you need to know.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado State Rams head to Austin to square off with the Texas Longhorns Saturday at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we look at Colorado State vs. Texas odds from FanDuel Sportsbook before making our expert college football picks and predictions later in the week.

Colorado State is on the rise under coach Jay Norvell, entering his 3rd season with the Rams. QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, who led the Mountain West at 288.3 passing yards per game, returns alongside top WR Tory Horton (96 catches, 8TDs). The offense has potential with 3 starters back on the O-line and with 6 defensive starters returning, the Rams should be competitive in most games.

Texas returns QB Quinn Ewers, who led the Longhorns to a playoff appearance in 2023. While they lost some talent to the NFL, the transfer portal brought in key additions like WR Isaiah Bond and TE Amari Niblack from Alabama. The offensive line is solid with 4 returning starters, and RBs Jayden Blue and CJ Baxter provide a strong ground game. Defensively, Texas reloaded with transfers, including DT Tiaoalii Savea from Arizona, S Andrew Mukuba from Clemson, and LB Kendrick Blackshire from Alabama, making them a formidable team in its SEC debut in 2024.

Texas is No. 4 in the US LBM Coaches Poll — conducted by the American Football Coaches Association and USA TODAY Sports.

March Madness: Colorado State vs. Texas odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Colorado State vs. Texas odds and lines, with college basketball expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado State Rams (25-10) take on the Texas Longhorns (20-12) in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament Thursday. Tip-off from Spectrum Center in Charlotte is set for 6:50 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Colorado State vs. Texas odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Colorado State earned the 10 seed in the Midwest Region by crushing Virginia 67-42 in First Four action Tuesday, easily cashing as a 3-point favorite. Both F Joel Scott (23 points, 11 rebounds) and G Nique Clifford (17, 10) recorded double doubles, and the Rams held the Cavaliers to a paltry 14 of 56 from the field (25 FG%).

No. 7 seed Texas last played March 13, losing 78-74 to Kansas State in the 2nd round of the Big 12 Tournament. G Max Abmas, who leads Texas in scoring (17.1 points per game) and is 2nd in the Big 12 in FT% (91.6), led the Longhorns in defeat with 26 points.

These schools last met back on Dec. 15, 1952, and it was Texas who prevailed 63-46 in Austin. The Longhorns are going for their 3rd straight NCAA Tournament first-round win, while the Rams are back in the Big Dance after missing out last year.

Colorado State vs. Texas picks and predictions

Prediction

Colorado State 75, Texas 74

Moneyline

PASS.

Given the aforementioned recent success in the 1st round for this Longhorns team, I would rather take the few points.

Against the spread

BET COLORADO STATE +2.5 (-118).

The Rams led the Mountain West in FT% as a team (75.3), and no one committed more personal fouls per game (3.4) in the Big 12 than Texas F Dylan Disu. CSU also led the MWC in assists per game (17.7), good for 8th-best nationally as well.

Expect the Rams to be able to facilitate the basketball and get it down low, putting themselves in position to potentially get fouled. The Longhorns should play aggressively, since they feature players like G Tyrese Hunter, who Disu has credited with bringing defensive energy and intensity.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

BET OVER 143.5 (-112).

Hunter was a miserable 0 for 7 from the floor in the Big 12 Tournament loss to Kansas State, but in the regular season finale vs. Oklahoma, he finished with a career-high 30 points. Expect a stat line closer to the latter from the junior guard, and this Texas team is definitely a tougher test from an offensive standpoint for the Rams than UVA was.
