Check out the best pics from the 2024 Rocky Mountain Showdown:

Led by two-way superstar Travis Hunter, wide receiver LaJohntay Wester and another strong defensive showing, Colorado football secured its seventh straight win over rival Colorado State on Saturday evening.

The Buffs got off to a slow start offensively before quarterback Shedeur Sanders connected with Wester for two second-quarter touchdowns. In the second half, Sanders threw another pair of touchdowns to Hunter, who finished with a team-high 100 receiving yards while totaling five tackles and an interception.

Playing in front of a sold-out Canvas Stadium crowd, Colorado scored four turnovers and held CSU quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi to only 209 passing yards.

Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown produces largest home crowd in CSU history

The Buffs beat the Rams in front of the largest home crowd in CSU history

The Colorado Buffaloes and Colorado State Rams sold out Canvas Stadium for the 93rd Rocky Moutain Showdown on Saturday evening, breaking a CSU record in the process.

The official attendance at the game was 40,099, the largest home crowd in Colorado State football history. By the fourth quarter, the home team’s deficit had nearly emptied the Canvas crowd in a 28-9 victory for the Buffs.

CSU struggled to fill its home field last season but a hopeful offseason brought over 36,000 fans last week in its first home game of 2024. The attraction of head coach Deion Sanders’ Buffs and the in-state rivalry, which hadn’t been held in Fort Collins since 1996, helped fuel the big showing.

The Buffs’ first Big 12 game next week against Baylor has already been announced as sold-out. Kickoff at Folsom Field is set for Saturday at 6 p.m. MT on Fox.

WATCH: Preston Hodge snags interception against CSU

Preston Hodge owns Colorado’s first interception of 2024

Preston Hodge was one of the many impact transfers the Colorado Buffaloes added to their secondary this offseason, and he made a huge play against the Colorado State Rams on Saturday.

CU started the second half up 14-3 and got the ball to open the second half. After the Buffs gained some yardage, they were forced to punt around midfield, and Mark Vassett pinned the Rams deep in their own territory. CSU started its drive at the 3-yard line and got no yardage on first down.

The Buffs then applied pressure on second down, forcing Rams quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi out of the pocket. BFN would then launch an ill-advised pass into Hodge’s waiting arms.

The interception marked Colorado’s first of the season.

Hodge joined CU after playing his first two college football seasons with the Liberty Flames.

Colorado mixes up starting offensive line against Colorado State

Colorado ran out a new-look starting offensive line against CSU

Needing better results up front, Colorado football ran out a new-look starting offensive line in Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown against rival Colorado State.

After starting at left guard in the Buffs’ first two games, Justin Mayers was not featured in the starting unit. Instead, Florida International transfer Phillip Houston started at right tackle and Tyler Brown was pushed to left guard. Brown, as a surprise to many, was Colorado’s starting right tackle against North Dakota State and Nebraska.

Hank Zilinskas (center), right guard Kahlil Benson (right guard) and Jordan Seaton (left tackle) remained at their starting spots.

To summarize, Colorado’s starting offensive line against CSU was Seaton (LT), Brown (LG), Zilinskas (C), Benson (RG) and Houston (RG).

Colorado’s O-line paved the way for 36 rushing yards and didn’t allow a sack in the first quarter. However, the Rams are currently up 3-0 early in the second quarter.

Colorado State WR Tory Horton a game-time decision for Rocky Mountain Showdown, per report

After suffering an injury last weekend, CSU star wide receiver Tory Horton will likely play in tonight’s Rocky Mountain Showdown

Colorado State football star Tory Horton is one of the best wide receivers in college football. However, his status is in the air ahead of Saturday evening’s Rocky Mountain Showdown against the Colorado Buffaloes after suffering a groin injury in Week 2.

At the moment, it appears the fifth-year senior will play. Despite ESPN reporting Horton as a game-time decision on Saturday morning, CSU head coach Jay Norvell said Monday he was “hopeful” Horton will play against the Buffs.

Still, Horton will likely be evaluated during warmups after practicing on Friday.

Horton’s absence would greatly hurt CSU and strip a potential Travis Hunter vs. Horton matchup after Hunter got injured early in the contest last year. Horton was the Rams’ top receiver in 2023 and most notably caught 16 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown (while throwing for one too) against the Buffs in Boulder last season.

Horton and the 1-1 Rams will host the 1-1 Buffaloes at 5:30 p.m. MT on CBS.

Tony’s Take: Predicting the final score of Colorado at Colorado State

What’s your final score prediction for tonight?

We have arrived at another rivalry game for the Colorado Buffaloes, who will be at Canvas Stadium on Saturday evening to face the Colorado State Rams in Fort Collins for the first time since 1996. CU is riding a six-game winning streak in the Rocky Mountain Showdown, its longest since an eight-game streak from 1987-98.

The Buffs are the cold team heading into this nonconference matchup after being beaten by the more physical Nebraska Cornhuskers last weekend. The Rams rebounded nicely against the Northern Colorado Bears after being dominated by the SEC’s Texas Longhorns in Week 1. Given the chatter that has occurred, CSU feels confident it can match up with the Buffs.

I’m expecting another close Rocky Mountain Showdown in Deion Sanders and Jay Norvell’s second matchup. The Buffs benefited from four turnovers last year, and I predict they’ll get their first turnover of the season on Saturday. CU will finally get the run game going and ensure that CSU stays winless against the Buffs in Fort Collins since 1955.

My final score prediction: Colorado wins the Rocky Mountain Showdown, 34-24.

Are the Buffaloes already facing a must-win game against Colorado State?

Are Coach Prime’s Buffs facing a must-win game against CSU?

While rivalry games should always be considered must-win, Colorado football is facing added pressure to beat Colorado State on Saturday after last week’s horrendous performance against fellow rival Nebraska.

Head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffs’ rocky start has them under intense scrutiny — most of it directed toward the offensive line and the nonexistent run game. If the offensive line plays well and Coach Prime commits to the run, Colorado likely isn’t falling to the Rams, but another poor performance in those areas would only lead to more criticism.

A loss in Fort Collins and the Buffs are sitting 1-2 entering Big 12 play. A win, however, puts Colorado at 2-1 with another manageable opponent coming up in Baylor.

So, for those reasons, Saturday’s Rocky Mountain Showdown is about as must-win as it gets for a Week 3 nonconference game.

Ralphie Report’s Ryland Scholes provided a similar perspective in a recent deep-dive on Colorado’s struggles. Here’s some of what Scholes wrote:

Everything hinges on this Colorado State game. As much as I hate to admit it, it’s probably the most important game this program has played in quite some time. Our concerns will be assured or they’ll be bubbling over in just five short days. Go and embarrass little brother to the north and all this talk is for nothing. If that doesn’t happen, the heat’s only going to intensify. We’re about to find out if this team has what it takes.

Once again, Deion Sanders and his squad come into the season amidst a great deal of hype but still cannot seem to live up to their self-set lofty expectations. This could be a prime opportunity for the Rams to gain the upper hand in the annual rivalry if the Buffs do not come to play.

At the time of publication, the cheapest available tickets for the Rams vs Buffaloes are $260.
