Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Rockies (23-41) and St. Louis Cardinals (30-33) meet Sunday for the finale of a 4-game series. First pitch from Busch Stadium is set for 2:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockies vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Colorado leads 2-1

Colorado took the series lead with a 6-5 win over St. Louis Saturday while covering as a +184 road underdog. The Rockies trailed 4-3, but scored 2 runs in the 7th to take the eventual game-winning lead.

St. Louis scored 4 runs in the 6th, but couldn’t hold the lead. The Cardinals have lost 2 of their last 3 home games after entering on a 5-game home winning streak.

Rockies at Cardinals projected starters

LHP Ty Blach vs. RHP Andre Pallante

Blach (2-3, 4.54 ERA) makes his 7th start. He has a 1.36 WHIP, 1.6 BB/9 and 4.3 K/9 in 39 2/3 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER, 10 H, 0 BB, 2 K in a 4-1 loss vs. Cincinnati Tuesday
  • Career vs. St. Louis: 0-1, 11.37 ERA (6 1/3 IP, 8 ER), 13 H, 2 BB, 5 K in 3 appearances (1 start)

Pallante (1-2, 6.16 ERA) makes his 3rd start. He has a 1.79 WHIP, 5.2 BB/9 and 5.2 K/9 in 19 IP.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 IP, 6 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 1 K in an 8-5 loss at Houston Tuesday
  • Career vs. Colorado: 1-0, 1.08 ERA (8 1/3 IP, 1 ER), 4 H, 0 BB, 7 K in 5 relief appearances

Rockies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 4, Rockies 3

Moneyline

PASS.

I like St. Louis (-185) to pick up the win, but the line is just slightly too risky to bet on. Bet on the spread and/or total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

LEAN ROCKIES +1.5 (-135).

The Rockies have had a lot of success vs. the Cardinals recently, being 4-2 in the last 6 meetings in St. Louis. But be aware that the Rockies have not finished within 1 run in any of their last 6 losses to the Cardinals.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 9 (-110).

The Under has hit in 4 of Colorado’s last 6 road games and is 5-4-1 in its last 10 overall. The Under has also hit in 2 of the Cardinals’ last 3 wins vs. the Rockies and is 3-2 in the last 5 matchups. For St. Louis, the Under is 32-28-3 on the season.

Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Colorado Rockies (21-40) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (29-31) Thursday in the opener of a 4-game set at Busch Stadium at 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockies vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: First meeting; split last season 3-3

The Rockies enter on a 5-game losing streak as they were swept at home by the Cincinnati Reds to open the week. They got out to a 4-0 lead in the 1st inning Wednesday but ultimately fell 12-7 after allowing 8 runs in the final 2 innings. Rockies 3B Ryan McMahon is fueling the offense with a .278 BA, 10 HR and 34 RBIs.

The Cards avoided a 3-game sweep Wednesday with a 4-2 road victory over the Houston Astros. They went 4-5 on the trip, which is somewhat respectable facing the Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and Astros. Cardinals 2B Nolan Gorman is tearing the cover off the ball. He’s hitting .310 with 6 HR and 10 RBIs over the last 15 days.

Rockies at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Cal Quantrill vs. RHP Sonny Gray

Quantrill (4-4, 3.84 ERA) makes his 13th start. He has a 1.29 WHIP, 3.3 BB/9 and 6.6 K/9 in 68 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 4 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 1 K in 4-1 setback Saturday at Los Angeles Dodgers
  • 1 career start vs. STL: No-decision, 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 5 K July 27, 2021

Gray (7-3, 3.00 ERA) makes his 11th start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 12.2 K/9 in 57 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 10 K in 6-1 defeat Saturday at Phillies
  • 1 career start vs. Rockies (at Coors): No-decision, 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 9 K in 3-2 loss with Cincinnati Reds July 12, 2019

Rockies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Rockies 3

Moneyline

The Cards are expecting a packed house, as they’re giving away a Star Wars-themed Jordan Walker bobblehead. Their best pitcher is on the mound, and closer Ryan Helsley should be available after nailing down his 20th save on just 8 pitches Wednesday.

We’re not spending -225 on the ML, but I will present some options.

Gray has walked 2+ in 4 straight starts. You can take SONNY GRAY OVER 1.5 WALKS (+130).

I also like NOLAN GORMAN OVER 0.5 TOTAL BASES (-150) and NOLAN GORMAN OVER 1.5 H+R+RBI (+100). Gorman went 0-for-4 Wednesday, but 2 of them were caught at the wall. He went 6-for-12 (.500) with 4 HR in his previous 3 games.

Run line/Against the spread

The Cards are 13-12 on the RL at home. They’re 6-3 in their last 9 meetings with the Rockies, and 5 of those victories were by multiple runs. The Rockies are just 8-23 away from Coors and are hitting just .233 on the road.

Take the CARDINALS -1.5 (-110).

Over/Under

It’s a humid, 80 degrees with a 13-mph wind blowing out to right-center. While Helsley should be available in the Cards’ pen, they’re likely down a couple of setup guys. That should be enough of an opening for the Rockies to put up the 3-4 runs needed to cash the OVER 7 (-120).

Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Rockies (42-66) and St. Louis Cardinals (48-62) open up a 3-game set at Busch Stadium Friday. First pitch is at 8:15 p.m. ET (MLB.TV Free Game of the Day). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Rockies vs. Cardinals odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.

Season series: Cardinals lead 2-1

The Rockies enter this one 3-7 over the last 10 games. They dropped series at home to the San Diego Padres and Oakland Athletics and sit firmly in last place in the NL West. They struggle mightily on the road at 17-36 and are 8-10 against the NL Central.

The Cards have lost 5 of 7 as they became sellers at the trade deadline. They still boast a talented roster, but the problem for them, which it has been all year, is pitching. They’ll have RHP Adam Wainwright seeking career win No. 199 on the mound Friday.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Rockies at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Chris Flexen vs. RHP Adam Wainwright

Flexen (0-5, 8.08 ERA) makes his 6th start and 19th appearance. He has a 1.93 WHIP, 4.9 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9 in 45 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 3 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 4 H, 6 BB, 4 K against the Oakland A’s Saturday
  • 2023 road stats: 0-1, 10.69 ERA (16 IP, 19 ER) in 8 games (1 start)
  • 2 career starts vs. Cardinals: 0-2, 11.88 ERA, 11 ER in 8 1/3 IP

Wainwright (3-5, 7.18 ERA) makes his 14th start. He has a 1.90 WHIP, 3.4 BB/9 and 4.9 K/9 in 62 2/3 innings.

  • Last start: Loss, 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 3 BB, 3 K Saturday against Chicago Cubs
  • 2023 home stats: 1-4, 8.16 ERA (32 IP, 29 ER) in 7 starts
  • Last 5 starts vs. Rockies: 4-0, 1.51 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 26 K in 35 2/3 IP – Most recent: Win, 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 0 BB, 7 K in 13-0 road victory August 18, 2022

Rockies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Rockies 4

Moneyline

The Cards have played the Rockies well in recent years, going a combined 10-6 since the start of 2021. Granted, this is a different Cardinals team. One thing to keep in mind, though, is the Cards only have a couple of reasons left to play for as they evaluate talent for 2024. One of those reasons is to get Waino to 200 wins before he calls it quits after the season. He gets No. 199 here, but we are not paying -190 on this team.

Head to the Win/Total section and take the CARDINALS AND OVER 5.5 (-125).

Run line/Against the spread

All 3 games between the teams have ended with multiple-run deficits. The Cards are just 24-31 on the RL at home this season. They also have the 24th-ranked bullpen ERA at 4.49. So there’s no way I trust them at -1.5.

PASS.

Play our free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Over/Under

The Rockies are 5-5 O/U over the last 10. Take that with a grain of salt, though, because 8 were in Coors. The Cards are 4-6 O/U over the last 10. The Over is 6-4 over the last 10 between the teams. Both starters have Goodyear blimp ERAs. Go easy, but I’d take the OVER 9.5 (-115) in this one.

Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Thursday’s Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (51-68) look to avoid the series sweep when they visit the St Louis Cardinals (65-51) for the finale of a 3-game series Thursday. First pitch from Busch Stadium is at 1:15 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Cardinals lead 3-2

The Rockies have lost 4 games in a row since they took 2 of 3 games from the Cardinals in Colorado last week. They are in last place in the NL West.

The Cardinals have won 3 games in a row and have only lost 3 times in their last 15 contests.

Rockies at Cardinals projected starters

RHP Antonio Senzatela vs. RHP Adam Wainwright

Senzatela (3-6, 4.67 ERA) makes his 19th start. He has a 1.65 WHIP, 2.3 BB/9 and 5.2 K/9 through 90 2/3 IP.

  • Has logged 4 consecutive quality starts.
  • Has not allowed more than 3 runs in his last 6 turns and in 9 of his last 10.

Wainwright (8-8, 3.27 ERA) makes his 24th start. He has a 1.19 WHIP, 2.4 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 through 143 1/3 IP.

  • Allowed 1 or 0 runs in 3 of his last 4 starts and in 4 of his last 6.
  • The Cardinals have won 3 of his last 4 outings.

Rockies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Rockies 4, Cardinals 3

Money line

Despite having the fewest road wins in all of baseball, the Rockies have won at least 1 game in each of their last 4 road series.

The Cardinals are 39-21 at home and Wainwright is 4-3 with a 2.30 ERA at home, but I love the value of the Rockies in this getaway game.

The Rockies have only been swept in one road series since late June and that was by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Take the ROCKIES (+210).

Run line/Against the spread

If you aren’t as confident in the money line for Colorado, the run line still has value. The Rockies are 3-2 ATS against the Cardinals this season and they are 28-28 ATS on the road.

The Cardinals are 35-25 ATS at Busch Stadium but 31-33 ATS after a win.

Take the ROCKIES +1.5 (-112).

Over/Under

Wainwright’s 2.30 home ERA means this will probably not be a high-scoring game. Senzatela has been consistently effective recently as well.

The Rockies have had 7 of their last 9 games exceed 8 runs. Four of their 5 games with the Cardinals have had at least 8 runs.

Take OVER 7.5 (-115).

Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (51-67) continue their 3-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals (64-51) Wednesday with the 1st pitch from Busch Stadium  at 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Tied 2-2

The Rockies have lost 3 games in a row after losing 2 of 3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks and dropping Tuesday’s game to the Cardinals 5-4 in walk-off fashion. They lead the league in team batting average (.263), but they’re giving up more runs per game (5.01) than all but 2 other teams.

The Cardinals are winners of 11 of their last 14 games, vaulting to 1st place in the NL Central, 2 games ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers. They took 2 of 3 from the Brewers in their last series, bouncing back from dropping 2 of 3 to the Rockies the series prior.

Rockies at Cardinals projected starters

RHP German Marquez vs. LHP Jordan Montgomery

Marquez (6-9, 5.08 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.42 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 7.3 K/9 in 127 2/3 IP.

  • He’s lowered his ERA by almost a full run in his last 6 starts, allowing just 13 ER in 37 2/3 IP
  • Has allowed 2 or fewer ER in 5 of his last 6 starts and has pitched at least 6 innings in each of his last 6 starts.

Montgomery (5-3, 3.37 ERA) makes his 24th start. He has a 1.07 WHIP, 1.9 BB/9 and 7.6 K/9 in 125 2/3 IP.

  • Since being traded to the Cardinals, he’s been lights out. In 2 starts, he’s allowed 0 runs in 11 IP, giving up just 6 H and striking out 9
  • Has won both of his starts with the Cardinals despite getting very little run support (4 total runs)

Rockies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Rockies 5

Money line

The Cardinals should keep things rolling against the Rockies Wednesday night, being at home with a solid starter on the mound. They’re 11-3 in their last 14 games, but the money line just isn’t attractive enough to bet.

I would PASS on the ML.

Win your fantasy baseball league with BaseballHQ.com. For decades, BHQ has been helping players just like you win! Use the couple code SBW22 for 20% OFF full-season subscription. New customer offer; expires 8/31/2022. Subscribe today and start winning!

Run line/Against the spread

In 4 games against the Cardinals this season, the Rockies have covered the spread 3 times – including in Tuesday’s 5-4 loss. Montgomery isn’t a high-volume strikeout pitcher and the Rockies do a good job of making contact and getting on base, so I like their chances Wednesday.

Bet the ROCKIES +1.5 (-140).

Over/Under

It’s somewhat surprising to see the Over/Under set at only 7.5 runs, especially with Marquez on the mound. While he’s been trending in the right direction, both of these teams rank in the top 10 in runs scored.

I like the OVER 7.5 (+105), especially since it’s at plus money.

Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Tuesday’s Colorado Rockies at St. Louis Cardinals odds and lines, with MLB expert picks and predictions.

The Colorado Rockies (51-66) travel to the Gateway City to face the St. Louis Cardinals (63-51) Tuesday in the 1st game of a 3-game set at Busch Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:45 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Rockies vs. Cardinals odds with MLB picks and predictions.

Season series: Rockies lead 2-1

The Rockies are coming off a 3-3 homestand and 2 of those wins were against the Cards last week. However, they are a very different team at home. The Rockies are just 18-36 away from Coors Field and they’re 3-9 in their last 12 road games.

The Cardinals are 37-21 at home. DH Albert Pujols is one to watch in this game. He busted out for 2 homers and 4 RBIs in the victory Sunday. He’s hitting .351 with 6 homers and 6 doubles in 77 at-bats against left-handed pitchers this season. He’s now 7 HR shy of tying SS/3B Alex Rodriguez for 4th on the all-time list with 696.

LHP Kyle Freeland vs. LHP Jose Quintana

Freeland (7-8, 4.84 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.42 WHIP, 2.8 BB/9 and 6.5 K/9 in 124 2/3 IP.

  • Road warrior: 3.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, 7.7 K/9 vs. 6.00 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 5.5 K/9
  • Allowed 6 ER on 10 H and 2 BB with 1 K in 4 1/3 against St. Louis at Coors Field Aug. 10

Quintana (4-5, 3.37 ERA) makes his 23rd start. He has a 1.24 WHIP, 2.7 BB/9 and 8.0 K/9 in 115 IP.

  • He has a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 9.8 K/9 in 12 IP since being acquired by St. Louis
  • One of those starts was at Colorado last time out, and he allowed 2 ER on 7 H and 2 BB with 6 K in 6 IP

Rockies at Cardinals picks and predictions

Prediction

Cardinals 6, Rockies 2

Money line

The Cardinals punish left-handed pitching as a whole. The team has a .266/.342/.451 slash line against lefties vs. a .249/.318/.407 slash line against righties. Quintana faced the Rockies at Coors July 15 as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He allowed 7 hits and walked 2, which led to 6 ER in 5 innings. On Aug. 10 with the Cards, he allowed 7 hits and 2 walks, which led to 2 ER in 6 innings. The uniform change has revitalized him, and the Rockies will be lucky to score 2 in this one. Let’s roll with CARDINALS FIRST 5 INNINGS (-145).

Run line/Against the spread

The Cards have won 13 games since the All-Star break, and only 3 have been by a single run. They’re 33-25 on the RL at home. The Cards swept Colorado last season by scores of 2-0, 9-8 and 5-0. This version of the Cardinals is more lethal. Take the CARDINALS -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

It’s expected to be a cloudy, 75-degree day with a 4 mph breeze blowing out to center. The Cards’ offense has been hot enough to hit the Over by themselves. The Over is 4-0 in the Cards’ last 4 against teams with a losing record. It’s also 5-0 in the Rockies’ last 5 against teams with a winning record. LEAN OVER 7.5 (-115) or stay away.
